Note: An article from the sun sentinel went viral today, where it was written that Mike Wallace has basically done nothing since training camp has started. Do not pay attention to that nonsense. Mike Wallace is slowly but surely forming a very nice chemistry with Ryan Tannehill, and has had three very productive practices. Perhaps what this writer wants Wallace to do is catch a 72-yard post route with his hands tied around his back while riding a unicycle.

Ryan Tannehill continues to show me how poised he is on the field and what great chemistry he’s forming with the new starters such as Lamar Miller, Mike Wallace, and especially Dustin Keller. At today’s practice Tannehill made some exceptional throws including a beautiful dart over the middle to Armon Binns, and even fooled every player and fan watching with a perfectly executed play-action rollout. Matt Moore was also able to stand out by throwing a couple touchdowns on the 7 on 7 and connecting twice on nicely thrown balls to Michael Egnew (yes, that Michael Egnew) on the outside. Overall it was a good day for the red shirts.

Today was a field day for the wide receivers. Even players that aren’t known in the Dolphin community were shaking starting cornerbacks. On the 1 on 1 drill it was Nolan Carroll who was covering Mike Wallace, and it was like taking candy from a baby. Wallace was too fast, too strong, and too athletic for Carroll who did not stop one ball from falling into his hands. My surprise receiver for the day was Marvin McNutt. The second year wide out from Iowa was matched up against Brent Grimes and caught 3 of 4 balls that were thrown at him throughout the 1 on 1. Other noticeables today were Chad Bumphis who broke Rashad Jones’ ankles on a juke move and Jeff Fuller who had a leaping catch in the end zone during 7 on 7.

I think it depends on who they want in their 5 spots that don't play much.
Plus Gibson is pretty much on a one year deal
Holland is a huge upgrade over McCain

I really hope we keep McNutt due to my Iowa ties. He came into college as a quarterback but switched to receiver his sophomore (RS) year. I think he has the ability to be a solid contributor for the team long-term.
However it's not like Matthews and Binns are making his life easy so who knows what will happen.

I'm not at all familiar with the writer, an 18 yr old kid named Alejandro N, but he is darned good at his craft. IMO, already much better than Mandomar.

This is what we like to hear, but I'm not getting too up or down this early. Preseason games will give us a little bit more.

The cynic in me thinks this is damning Mike Wallace with faint praise and essentially confirming what Omar said, which is just that Mike Wallace hasn't really popped out at you in these practices.
The space between a fan blogger's "slowly but surely" and Omar Kelly's "the Mike Wallace factor hasn't been felt so far" is virtually non-existent in my eyes. I might feel different if the blogger gave indications that Omar was WAY off, as in there were 3 or 4 plays that Omar must have just plain not seen because his observations didn't even make sense...but that's not what the guy said.

...but we KNOW what Mike Wallace can do. There is plenty of evidence from his career thus far. I'm struggling to understand what concerns he has this early. From the tweets I saw, he was almost indicating he wasn't sure that Wallace was that explosive, which seems silly given the evidence of his career. If his point was that Wallace and Tannehill don't have a connection yet, it's also hard to get worked up considering how early we are in the process of them being teammates.
I guess I'm just not sure what the concerns are this early. It's not like Ted Ginn where he got in camp and it was like, "Oh crap, this guy can't play football." It's more just an issue of making sure he is productive in this environment. And it seems too early to really get worried yet.

rafaelforum_veteranWhen I factor in that the team has primarily worked on the short passing game and redzone, I think "slowly and surely developing chemistry" and "three very productive practices" is starkly different from Omar's implication that Wallace hasn't done anything yet. IIRC in one of the earlier reports he talked about Wallace's big day. There was also one practice report (from the same guy I believe) that specified that Wallace had 9 catches that day. IMO that does directly contradict the info Omar is putting out. So comparing a guy I don't know much about, but is providing specifics vs. a guy I know is prone to hyperbole and spotty fact checking, I'll trust the new guy more over the guy I know to be an idiot.

Perhaps a bit of an easier decision considering our possible transition away from carrying a FB.
