I almost didn't write a summary of today's game since there was so little to see- for instance, we won the first quarter 22-20....that's in total yards folks. Rosen was pressured continuously by blitz heavy packages and there just wasn't much to talk about. Washington had a couple of nice drives in the 2nd quarter off of a few Peterson runs and that recaps the entire ballgame.

But then we sub in Fitz-Magic, he does his magical stuff and Washington didn't know how to handle it. They stopped blitzing entirely and sat back in zone coverage instead, which Fitz shredded to pieces. We scored a quick TD, was marching to a 2nd one when Gisecki was shoved down from behind on 3rd and short...but it didn't matter since it was all 3 and outs for Washington. Our secondary really stepped up in the 4th and it was our game to win.

So once we got the ball back with 1:50 left, Fitz marches us down the field while absolutely abusing the clock...not a single person went out of bounds (even when they caught sideline passes). We score with 6 seconds left and inexplicably go for 2- we had over 150 yards in the 4th quarter to Washington's 10. Why on Earth wouldn't we settle for overtime and continue the beat-down on both sides of the ball?

And I think I know the answer...I think we all know the answer. We're driving the tank and a win hurts more than it helps.

So with 6 seconds left on a 2-point conversion try, with absolutely everything going our way, we throw a quick screen to Drake and he drops it. He freaking drops it....a pass of four feet with almost zero velocity. It's inexplicable...yet it happened. Redskins win by 1.

I know most of you are for the tank and personally, it doesn't make a lot of sense to root against it since it's happening regardless. But I don't know how I feel about today, to see my team dominate the 4th quarter and then intentionally lose. I think it pisses me off more than anything because athletes always play to win...and coaches are supposed to play to win as well. Yet it just didn't feel that way today.

Looking back, I can't help but wonder how we've hung with three dominant teams for the first half then suddenly crapped the bed after halftime. Those adjustments we're making- are they intentionally to seal the deal? Grant and Howard were scratches today as well...are they actually hurt, or would it have hurt us to have them on the field? I just don't know.

The good news is that we took a huge step in our tank for Tua...Washington will be playing catch-up the rest of the year now. But am I happy about it? I don't think so...not under those circumstances when you had the team come together to steal a win, play dominant to close out the game, then walk out with the goose-egg anyway. It's just not right from our organization...I believe they owe more to the athletes that have busted their butts to make an NFL roster.

So that brings me to one of two conclusions- if Flores lost on purpose there at the end, he needs to be fired or removed by the league. If Flores didn't lose on purpose, he should be fired for being incompetent...we had 100% of the momentum and there was no reason to go for 2. Either way, I don't see how he keeps his job UNLESS he's been told to throw close games by Ross and/or Grier. And if that's the case, they should be gone as well.

Then I think back to subbing in Fitz in the first place- why even do it? Why come back, shut the Skins out, put two TD's on the board and take full control over the game....only to call a play that hadn't been successful all afternoon? Even if Drake did catch the football there, it was a failed attempt regardless because he was going to get destroyed in the backfield. It was the worst possible play we could have called and possibly the only way we were going to lose...yet that's what we did.

I don’t think they’re intentionally trying to lose games. The call was the right one. Even Fitz stated that he loved it. To the great 4th down fake punt call, and the first onside kick. They’re not trying to lose. If anything, they are trying to win. Miami simply doesn’t have the talent. Plain and simple.

Maybe Flores, like many coaches, was okay with the turnover in players because that happens. I am not sure he, or anyone else, was prepared for the absolute disintegration of the roster Grier put in place. I honestly do not think he and Grier are on the same page. Just a hunch.

It is weird that there seems to be a bright spot within one or two phases of the game that was not there previously, but then another group struggles.

I don’t think this coaching staff is tanking. I think they have a plan set in place, and are following it. This team is just so devoid of talent, that it makes it seem like they are intentionally losing. Sometimes, the players have to just make plays to give themselves a chance. For example, Drake didn’t today. It happens. I just do not believe Flores is intentionally tanking. I just don’t think the talent is really there.

I 100% think that they are trying to win. How else would you explain the onside kick, the fake punt, and pulling Rosen when he was struggling? All of these actions are of a coach and players who were clearly trying to win.

As Freud once said, "Sometimes a cigar is simply a cigar." Sometimes a bad play call is just a bad play call.

    Well, here's the thing.

Do I believe the team - as in the players and coaches - are trying to win? Yes. But I also believe the organization did everything they could to make it hard for them to win (the Tunsil/Stills trade, huge roster turnover that happened right before the regular season began, etc). So while they may not be directly tanking, I'm pretty sure the organization put the team in a spot where having the worst record in the league is more than possible.

I think i will be long and buried before i see another NFL front office put together an offensive line as inept as we did this season.

I get the same feeling. Almost like in Major League where the owner is trying to move the team away from Cleveland, this front office has succeeded in making Miami suck. I do think there is a little bit of power struggle between Grier and Flores just by some of the things heard in interviews. I’m not sure they are seeing eye-to-eye.

If there was a play that showed they are trying to tank, it was that two point conversion. Really bad timing. Tie it up and try to keep the momentum going. Wow.

You might be right. I can't imagine that Flores, given his coaching history, is cool with what's going on.

I think he is internally frustrated, but from all accounts, he is putting in the work. This is tough to watch, but there are little things that are encouraging. It is really unfortunate we cannot get a better gauge on Rosen with this cruddy O-line. Hope they can manage to get things going with that unit, but it might be an uphill battle with guys who were signed off the street.

Eh i am starting to think Flores may actually be in the hotseat.

The dolphins brand is non existent. He doesnt provide any sort of motivation or anything to this team to inspire them. Its one thing to suck but its another thing to be completely lifeless.

theres some interesting candidates coming up... and with the amount of draft picks and capspace, we have to have the right coach in place in 2020.. i havent seen anything from Flores that makes me think hes that guy.

you would think you would hear about how excellent and organized our practices and preparation before the games are. How creative and innovative our staff is..

hes got a terrible squad sure, but the coaching staff hasnt shown me anything in game... i think they may be in over the heads..

He’s not even working with a legit NFL roster. There’s no amount of coaching that’s going to overcome that.

I honestly believe the players and coaches are trying to win. The FO has essentially armed them with a BB gun in a gun fight.

i dont want to take a chance on a guy whos in danger of starting 0-16 in his head coaching career, whos team is completely dead inside.., i dont want him to be the one around with all that cap space and 5 upcoming first round picks. We need to do our due diligence and make sure we have it right.

with Brady likely retiring in 2022 and Belichick to follow, we can not blow this. We have to get it right, there are no more mistakes allowed. All that capspace and first rounders, the ultimate prize has to be on the horizon in the next decade. If we screw all this up because we have another head coaching dud, because we trusted that this 0-16 guy is different with more talent, and it doesnt work out, this will set us back for many years.

I know what you mean. Tanking is a weird word. You are right. We are not trying to put the best team possible on the field, but the players/coaches on the field are 100% trying to win. I think this is a matter of semantics.

If he doesn't get it done, he will be gone before the 2022 season easily. But he will get another shot next year.

The odds are stacked against him being the guy that will lead us out of this period, which is true of most coaches/managers across all sports who "oversee" a tank job.

0-16 is tough, even with the **** roster we have. Good coaching should get you a win or two. Yes, the roster is terrible, but who has really seen anything that makes you go "yeah, that's the guy right there!" Ultimately, if we don't make a good leap in year 2 (and with a new QB) Flores will be out the door, with that extra year on his contract his cashout for taking this bullet.

This was a 2-5 win team before they started unloading Tunsil, Fitz, Stills and others. You’re just not gonna win football games with an OL that’s this bad and with the QB play we’ve had. I don’t even think you can begin to evaluate his coaching this year with this roster because we’re way undermanned. Year 2 is where we need to start seeing some improvement and can better evaluate.

By then, our core players will have more experience, we’ll have 5-7 players in the first 4 rounds that should add impact and depth plus hopefully filling in some holes with his type or players in FA.

I didn't see Flores as trying to tank.

Putting in Fitzpatrick was not a tanking move.

At the end of the game, my honest thought was... holy crap, Flores is going for the WIN?? It just didn't work out.

Anyway, the NFL is so crazy this year. Teams are so up and down, it's a hilarious year trying to predict games.

why the feck did they go for 2 ? Even if the pass had been caught he wouldn't have got into the end zone. Take the 1 and win in O/T. Having seen some of the game on UK Sky, I can see why Arizona let Rosen go . All this tanking is ok if those in charge of recruitment can be trusted to get the right players next year but I fear they will screw up-AGAIN.
