Dan Carpenter has 80 points scored
our offense has 86 points scored
our defense has 6 points scored

    KICKERS
    Nick Folk...92 points
    Matt Bryant...90 points scored
    David Akers...90points scored
    S.Janikowski...92 points scored

4 kickers in the NFL have more points than our
    entire offense...minus Carpenter

86 points scored and Henning isn't gone
is a travesty against offensive Coordinators past and present.

Thank god for Mike Nolan and the defense being respectable this year with all the young faces back there.

    Or we'd be 3-7 or 2-8.

You could argue we could be 7-3 if the defense would have made some of those 3rd down stops.

The Defense has been good, but not with the game on the line.

You know why Henning hasn't been fired, right? Because him, Parcells and Ross are golf buddies. This coaching staff literally makes me sick. (Nolan aside)

This year I can't blame the defense. Last year, yes. But I think they've done a solid job thus far with the exception of the Jets game. (New England was all Special Teams and offensive mistakes)

I think Henne getting benched pretty much signified that Henning was gonna be here the rest of the season. Something had to happen, and they made the wrong decision IMO. That's not even hindsight, just the facts.

As good as the defense has been
How much longer can the defense play 38 minutes a game
while the offense plays 22 minutes(Chicago and Baltimore game)

No matter how good a defense is 38 minutes is a burden
for any defense to play in a game

But how much is that the offense not driving the ball, or the defense not converting turnover opportunities, they have dropped 10 interceptions this year.

We put more points on the board vs the Steelers than any other team this season, and still lost, the first pats game featured a historic special teams meltdown and Henne threw a int in the EZ to end the Jets game.

It is not like we aren't close.

and if Sparano is going to be the coach that some think he could be, he needs to step up, show his skillset as a coach, show us that he has his own vision of our offense, and not stick with another man's vision who was picked for you.. Time for coach to be his own man now..

reasons why Henning should be let go..

Horrible usage of your top 2 RB'S..

    Shelving and no evolution of the wildcat, even though you have the best player in the league at executing it....{stupid}

Lack of feel for calling specific plays, in certain down and distance scenario's...illogical sometimes.

The man is almost 70 years old.. no disrespect to Mr C, but come on...go hit the sticks.

He doesn't need the Job, and has shown thru some words that he's doing it out of favor.

When the offensive line got overhauled the "new and improved" version never played up to last years line and the rest is history.

Right, and I don't know why you're overhauling your offensive line before year three to begin with. You'd hope that you'd be done with at least most of it after a couple of seasons. Instead we were only set at the tackle positions with no depth.

Smiley & Grove both had fat contracts, and they both had chronic injuries as well. Thomas had every chance to keep his job, and he was beaten out by a guy who the coaches thought was better. And since DT can't play any other positions, he was let go in favor of backups who can play in multiple spots.

This team is building for the FUTURE, that being the case you don't keep aging vets with injury problems and bloated salaries on the roster. It may cost you short term, though in this case it hasn't b/c none of those three guys has done a damn thing this year. The cap space saved by the cuts will allow us to sign a an additional free agent or two. Cutting Gibril, Porter, Torbor, Ayodele and trading Ginn will help also.

of has scored 84 points in 10 games

    Henning,Henne,Brown,Williams,Marshall,Hartline, Bess,Fasano...
have accounted for 84 points...84 points

5-5 wit two losses to the Steelers and Jets by 8 pts? And even then Henne threw a Int in the EZ to end the Jet and we were screwed in the steelers game.

More than being outright horrible, I despise mediocrity. And other than that 1-15 year, that's what we've been mired in for the last 10 years.

Even when we had that "awesome" yet mentally-weak Defense in the early part of the decade, we were largely mediocre or just above it.

Even during the post-achilles Marino years, we were HUGELY mediocre, held just above water by Marino's grit and determination, and Shula's stewardship.

I'm ****ing sick to death of it.

I'd much rather SUCK for a couple years and rebuild the rest of the team around the few pieces worth keeping, than continue to plod along, picking 20th or so in the draft and signing guys like Justin Smiley and Jake Grove.

Here are interesting numbers (from miamidolphins.com)...

The Phins have outscored opponents in the first half 92-77...
They have been outscored in the 2nd half 77-115... Now take off the NE game ST fiasco and it looks like 77-94...

They have more 1st downs then opponents, and they are converting more 3rd downs that opponents (43%-39%)...

Right now by looking at these numbers, it points to how prepared are they when they come out to play inthe 2nd half... adjustments, adjustments???

thought a few more picks would help it balance out some, but that is why CB's are not WR's....

Other thing is 'Nard, Henne's int's have tended to come in the second half this season.

This is a part of the problem the Offense has limited possessions, the Defense bends but doesn't break in the red zone, so the offense receives the ball back with a depleted clock in situations where it has to throw the ball to play catch up so when Henne throws a int it compounds the problem.

As you point out, when the Defense doesn't take advantage of their opportunities to create turnovers, it makes it doubly bad.

Notice in the Titans game, the two worked together, Defense creates turnovers, Offense scores points off of them.

Padre, maybe its me but these numbers might not support your theory on the Offense having limited possessions, at least in the 1st half...

Going back to the Offense of 2008, our 11-5 Season, where TOP and mistake free football was what the Offense was great at...

In the 1st 10 games (under Penny), this Offense had an average of 4.8 Possessions (Drives) in the 1st half, and ran off an average of 24.9 plays...

In the 1st 9 games this year (mostly under Henne), this current Offense had an average of 4.6 Possessions (Drives) in the 1st half, and ran off an average of 31 plays...

Also in 2008 the O averaged 37% in TDC... compared to 43% now...

So looking at these numbers, other things come to mind...

Now on the later highlighted part... I think this is what seperates elite teams from good and or average teams...

disagree vehemently about the offensive line. Sparano screwed up big time. His insistence on Henne @ QB from the very beginning until now & the destruction of a very capable offensive line has devastated the season. He is a parcellian experiment @ coaching gone bad

Yeah..... b/c Penny and Thiggy were CLEARLY the answer. :shifty:

You're right-- this had nothing to do with:
    1. Special Teams
    2. Henning
    3. Ultra conservatism and allowing teams to dictate the game to us rather than doing the dictating
    4. Excessive team youth playing like inconsistent youth
    5. Not creating enough turnovers
    6. Lack of playmakers and speed on offense

Past SB teams have won with less capable QBs and/or poorer Olines. Get real will you.

I would love to agree with your statistics but three games ago Chad Henne was benched for throwing multiple interceptions in the second half of every one of our losses. Now I'm not attempting to condemn Henne but your statistic is not a condemnation of a failure to adjust. Your statistic is evidence of the fact that if this team gets behind - they are going to lose.
