He's a business man now, with his ventures and his work on CBS, I probably wouldn't start saying "negative" things about Sanchez either, NY is a big consumer market.

Remember right when Henne had to start and everyone was saying that he was terrible on the run? Look at him now. Rolling out of the pocket and dropping dimes like a pro.

I've always found Marino to be one of the worst at QB analysis. His entire analysis of any QB seems to be limited to "can he throw it?"

As for the wolf pick Ashraf, I think it refers to our current "feed the wolf" mantra.

 

Amazingly, it's true. Dan likes any QB who is willing to try to gun the ball all over the field into coverage in an attempt to carry his team.

He just loves that type of QB.

Henne has a bit of that, but Rain Man Sparano has almost beaten it out of him with a birch switch.

He is slow and unagile as hell when running to the left, backwards, or otherwise doing a bad imitation of scrambling.

Somehow, when he scrambles to the right he is Frank Tarkenton and Randall Cunningham combined.

 

Makes sense. That is the type of quarterback he was. I do not know if he made a read during his entire career.

Henne's clearly very adept at rolling out for play action passes. In fact, I almost prefer he throw out of play action as some of his biggest passes down the field have come out play-action plays.

That's true, and like handcuffing Nolan Sparano is making decisions that maybe worked in 08 that maybe won't work in 2010, sooner or later Sparano is going to have to let the Talent speak as this isn't the Team of Castoffs that he had in 08 there is much more talent on this yr's squad.

It's all fine to have as a philosophy that "teams that don't turn the ball over win" it is a different matter on how to get there from here.

It kinda funny seeing everyone hopping off the Sanchize wagon. Henne has shown so much more.

The fact they made it to the AFC Championship round has really hidden the fact that he looks to be a terrible QB.

At least Henne is a positive to our offense, bringing it an entirely new dynamic. Sanchez is a negative to that entire team. After this season the Jets are going to want his head for holding back what looks to be a SB caliber roster only to go 8-8 or 7-9.

They should've kept Fanaca, T. Jones, and L. Washington.

I've found most of (Post-Miami Dolphin) Marino's comments & analysis about the Dolphins either subdued, unenthusiastic or inaccurate.
Doesn't seem to be much commitment or real moral support for the Franchise & players coming from his end since he retired.
Maybe its just me, but it seemed like the Dolphins got more love from Tom Brady the other day than Dan Marino has ever shown.
I don't think Sanchez w/ anymore than a coached comment in the conversation, an anchor or qualifier on the praise Marino gave Henne.
It w/an unnecessary slight to the otherwise gracious comment by the articulate Dan Marino.

He could make pre-snap reads, but his post-snap reads were horrid. I just don't think he was all that quick of a thinker. I asked him once why he didn't try to make his play-action fakes more realistic and he told me that he felt he needed the extra time to read the field.

Well Dan himself pretty much called himself out on his reads since that was what he told me himself. And frankly, if you had paid attention when he played you would have seen that the teams that were most successful against him came to the same conclusion I did. SF's game plan in his SB was all about showing one look and changing it at the snap. They probably got that from the Pats which was the team that Dan struggled most against. They regularly changed their coverages at the snap. So I'll just LOL at your disagreement.

 

Bill Walsh things that Dan Marino is the best quarterback of all time because of a conversation he had with him.

Bill Walsh wanted to pick Dan Marino's brain and asked him what goes through his mind when he go through his reads after the snap. Marino replied, "I do not go through reads, I just throw to the open man."

That answer floored Bill Walsh.

 

Well obviously its just me who doesnt get it. He needed the extra time to "read" the field so he didnt bother selling playaction, but at the same time never made post snap reads? Part of me thinks that he was being coy when he said "I dont read the field, I just throw".

I still have a hard time believing he was "horrid" at making post snap reads. "Horrid" is a tad strong.

 

This seaon will seperate Henne from Sanchez.

 

IMO it speaks to how great he was in other areas.

 

You can have 5 Sanchizes to my 1 Henne, all day, any day. Marino is all about being PC, has to be because of his job as an analyst for a national network (CBS). So I take anything Marino says with a grain of salt, he can't afford to piss off the Jets fan base, it is too large a market.

 

If I were Marino i'd probably say about the same thing if some nerdy brainiac comes trying to pick my brain.

Walsh: "So in this particular instance theres 2 safties shading over this way covering your blah blah blah.....What were you thinking?"

Marino: "I throw to the open man." ....DONE conversation over!

Being the cool cat he is I could see him having some fun there.
