I have always been a big Chad Henne fan, even thru last season when at times he looked awful even for UFL standards. Every week after a game I would read more and more garbage about how Henne was awful, could not read defense, did not have “IT”, and is simply not an NFL caliber QB. As I read these articles I said to myself “This kid has all the tools, but they just have to give him a chance”. People don’t seem to take in to account that the Offensive line was terrible last season, there was virtually no running game (note: Ricky and Ronnie are both gone now), and the wild cat was always getting in the way. Dan Henning was notorious for using the wild cat on 1[SUP]st[/SUP] and 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] down and then expecting Henne to come in on 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] and long with an established rhythm – that just is not going to happen!
Miami used it’s draft to build around Henne, brought in a great back for making things happen in the flat in Reggie Bush, hired an new OC in Brian Daboll and yet all the “experts” are counting Henne out before he even gets in the driver’s seat.
In the weeks leading up to the game it was refreshing to see team support for Henne, and to read about his new found confidence, now that he was being recognized as a leader and being voted Team Captain. I will admit even I didn’t expect to see 416 passing yards, and 60 rushing yards as well as the 3 TD’s that were accounted for, but the things that he showed on the field were the things I knew he could do all along.
I know plenty of fair-weather fans spent the off-season and lockout throwing Henne under the bus, or calling for his job. Now that Henne is showing promise I expect many of those fans to come crawling back.
Every game is not going to look like it did Monday night, but Henne showed that he is deserving of this opportunity, so pick a side of the fence to be on – Either call yourself a fins fan and support Henne, or find another team. Let’s see what this kid can do with even more support and confidence.
On a final note, isn’t it ironic that Broncos fans are calling for Orton’s job…

Well, I think most Dolfans are in wait and see mode, those three games that Henne's play was not good in to end the 2010 season has left a bad taste in many fans mouths and while the pats game was encouraging, it was 1 game, and Henne usually starts off great.

I don't appreciate threads trying to tell me how to be a Dolphins fan. I've been doing a pretty ok job of it since the age of 4. I'll support the QB that consistently wins us games (or with the defense we saw Monday, consistently plays well). The same way any fan of any other team does. I sure hope that guy is Chad Henne, but if not, I can be a fan and criticize the QB.
-
MonstBlitz - don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to tell you "how to be a fan", but in fact just stating in general that what we need are "True" fans! I true fan would certainly criticize Henne for the past job poorly done, but the target audience here are those that are consistently calling for Henne to be axed, especially in favor of Orton, or Fans that see fit to BOO the QB at a PRE-SEASON practice when a brand new system has been installed. The simple point here is that with confidence and support I believe Henne can play lights out. I believe he did that on Monday. I'm glad you're a fan, but you're reading to deep in to my post here..

I root for all of the team all of the time as I have since 1966. I root for Henne every game, and I don't and I won't boo a player in a Dolphin's uniform if they play bad. I, however reserve the right to criticize and discuss faults of anyone who plays poorly that contributes to a Dolphins loss. The Dolphins are my team, win or lose and even if they lose I am not ashamed to say I am a fan of the Dolphins to anyone. And that my friend is "not" a "Fair Weather Fan.

Henne needs to show he can do the job over the long haul, and not a lot of people are quite ready yet to make definitive judgments based on a few games. We'll all be happy as hell if he proves he can be the QB many think he can.
But the bigger picture is the team. People want what's best for the team, and in many people's opinion Henne hasn't proven anything quite yet. Some people may make rash judgments, one way or the other. But certainly they're entitled to do so. -
I'm right there with you. I was one of the very few who stuck by Henne all last season and truly believed it was the system that was holding him back. I remember my family (Giants and Steelers fans) saying how much Henne sucked and we needed a new QB after the Lions game. I just looked at them, smiled, and said "Henne is better than this, trust me. This system he's playing in is a joke."
Henne still has a way to go but now everyone is seeing the improvements all around. At the end of that game Monday night, those same family members were saying how much better he looks this year. It's one game, and hopefully he keeps it up, but the signs surely look good. The man deserves to be having success.SCall13, Onehondo, Ophinerated and 2 others like this. -
I know we're only one game into the season..but I have a strong feeling the patience brigade will be having the last laugh.

we've been discussing this athlete's progression intensely here for a long time , was the booing and chanting for another QB wrong,? imo, absolutely yes, based on the tape, I felt it was completely wrong, do I believe he should of had more support? yes I do..Should we wait til the bye to decide whether he is 100 percent our QB of the future? I think we all have to do that, because of the magnitude of the decision, and what the direction of philosophy will ultimately be in terms of this position and how do you wanna compete with the best for the next 4 or 5 years.
I think at the bye if he continues this level of play, the majority will come around on their decision to harshly criticize.Onehondo and Ophinerated like this. -
Ah the old "only those who never criticize are true fans" debate. I for one support and have always supported henne, but those who think he is not good enough for our team and only believe that because they want to see us be better are still fans in my book.
A true fan is someone who watches as many games as possible, knows enough about the team to post logical and thought-out opinions (regardless of which opinion taken) and whose one true goal in all the cheering, booing, praising and critiques is to see us WIN.
Oh and go Henne, you da man now dawgOnehondo and DolfanJake like this. -
This is Henne's year to prove he belongs as the starting QB of this team and he's off to a good start.Trowa, Onehondo and DolfanJake like this. -
I have supported henne since he was drafted and argued for him. But there is and was valid concerns. Until he consistently shows it and we win games, it isnt a certainty he is the answer, you have to consider every option. He hasnt proven anything that he gets the pass. I think he has turned teh corner, but it doesnt make someone not a fan if they are weary. I question why no credit is given when warranted, giving credit for a game doesnt mean you are sold on him, but until its settled it isnt settled

I consider Henne to be in same tier of QB as guys like Matt Shaub, Kevin Kolb, Tony Romo, Josh Freeman, Mathew Stafford, and Jay Cutler. So with that said regardless of how many games we win if Henne continues to play like he did Monday night then I think he's more than deserving of a contract.

What there are Dolphin fans who don't like and support Chad Henne.... First I've heard of it
Seriously though there is a core group here who took lots of heat over fully supporting our QB.
Slowly but surely you will see the haters coming back to the good side as the season progresses.
I always get chewed for saying I'm right all the time when I am but I've said all along you have to let the guy develop.
Henning and Lee did nothing but destroy the growth process. This new scheme is the proper antidote for the poisonous system he was in previously.
Henne is going to if not already shock the naysayers. Ink it!SeanP, Onehondo, Ophinerated and 1 other person like this. -
Time will tell , now wont it. A good pre-season and one real game is way too early to be overly convinced. Although, and I`ve said it many times,I hope you`re right. Also,If Henne stunk up the joint against the Pats would you then give up on him ???? Of course not. So,it works both ways.Onehondo likes this. -

Phins Faithful - Please don't come on this board and tell us how to root for our favorite team. Henne was atrocious last year and I pay good money to support this team. It is my right to boo Henne or any other Dolphin if I feel like it. I don't need you to tell me I'm not a true fan. How dare you! I still do not believe in Henne. He has 1 good game and you come on here pumping your chest like you are Nostradamus. I don't think Henne will ever lead my beloved Dolphins to a superbowl. He is nothing more than an average quarterback. Perhaps we are sticking with Henne because we want to suck for Luck. That's the only thing I can come up with.

Chocolate Thunder- It did not take you very many sentences to prove your ignorance! First off, i'm not telling you or anyone else how to root for your team. It is my belief that a true fan should support the team in good times and in bad.. if you boo him the organization does not give a damn. The fact of the matter is that he is our QB. He didnt have only 1 good game, he has had several where he has shown promise, and aside from the Atlanta game he has had a solid pre-season. If you had an open mind you would see those bright spots and hope they come thru while he is here, and for him to get better. As you saw monday, confidence does a lot for a QB!
-
Henne? Are you kidding me Phinny Faithful????? He had one good game dude and you crown him as our saviour? You're right Henne looked great against those 2nd and 3rd string players in the preseason. Where were your blogs when Henne crapped the bed for us past few years, where was your support Phinny Faithful, who is the fair weather fan now? If you want to be brutally honest Pat White had better upside than Henne but never got as many chances as Henne. Pat White for President!!!

So you want us to find and kill Chad Henne? -
I'll bite though 'cause if your negative scenario would have been played out...... I would say no you don't give up on your starting QB after one game.

I would give an objective view on henne, but my choice of username makes me a walking target... so I'll just say I support him and wish him the best?

People will 'come crawling back'. OK. You knew it was only a matter of time before you saw stuff like this. I live fifteen minutes down the road from an NFL organization that knows how to build a real team that can compete with anybody. And I still watch the Dolphins. I don't think my fanhood is in question regardless of what I think about Chad Henne.
