I never liked the Timmons signing. I said so as soon as we signed him and some of the idiots on here who support everything gase and tbaum do were calling me crazy for saying it. The guy is over the hill, we should have signed zach Brown as I said.

I liked the signing. There for a couple weeks he was playing really well, wonder what changed?

 

What changed is his body started to slow down again. Older players are good for a few games but their bodies cannot recover well enough to maintain their level of play throughout a whole season.

It was evident since his last season in pittsburgh that he had lost a step and was past his prime.

We got damaged goods thanks to tbaum.

I believe you hit the nail on the head Hitman, he was a positive addition considering what we have seen at LB the last few years, but that's still not saying much...10 ft under water is better than 11 ft, but you'll still drown.

Kiko is a steady 25 ft under water...

And I wasn't wrong. I said he was a good player. He's had some trouble with the complexity of the defense. That's partly on Burke not giving the younger and newer guys a more simplified version of his defense. However, when Timmons has understood his assignment he's played lights out.

Yes, complex. For someone who has played the last 10-11 seasons in a base 3-4, and for rookies, coming into the relatively rare 4-3 "wide-9" defense is going to take some time. Burke's problem is he's throwing new players right into it.

 

You're ability to write so much and say absolutely nothing is a rare talent, indeed.

 

But does Burke call the plays?

 

A break down in communication, plus Timmons being new, is the main culprit, IMO.

The DB's have rotated out so much, along with the LB'ers, it's hard to say for sure, but communication has been horrid. Even for an All-Pro like Jones, veterans like Timmons, Kiko, and McDonald, etc.

Yes, you do this every time you lose an argument, you start playing stupid semantics. I said he was a positive addition because compared to what we had last year he was. Even with how he is playing now he is still better than last year's linebackers. However I also clearly stated I wasn't all that happy with the signing, that he was past his prime, and that he was just a stopgap and not the right solution to our linebacker problems.

All of this has proven correct so far this season.

If your not knowing the system excuse was correct he would have struggled from day one and gotten progressively better as he got more reps in the system. However that has not been the case, he started out strong his first couple of games and had no problems with the "system". He has gotten progressively worse as the season has gone on because his body is breaking down, he is old and over the hill and his body is not recovering well enough from the weekly pounding.

That is the truth. You were wrong, I was right. Man up for once and admit it.

I agree. And if there's one (there's more than one IMO) thing to call Burke out on is his seemingly inability to simplify/adapt and constantly throw his guys into the fire. It's a sink or swim defense with no middle ground. He's a 1st year DC so hopefully he can learn from this.

Semantics? I don't think you're using that word correctly. I quoted your posts verbatim and any reasonable person would infer that you're contradicting yourself.

There's no gray area in the way you worded your posts. If that's not what you meant your wording was way off. And if you've changed your mind that's OK. I change my mind on players all the time. Have you looked at who is playing on defense now compared to who was playing in the first 5-7 games of the season? There have been a lot of significant changes. Timmons is lining up in the wrong spots now because communication is breaking down and it seems the person who was getting him lined up right at the beginning of the season is either not there any longer or confused also. You don't line up in the wrong spot because you're old and broken down. You line up wrong because you're confused and/or the communication put you in the wrong spot.

And no one was claiming that Timmons would be anything else but a stop gap. Most here believed that he would take the reigns until McMillian was up to speed. McMillian got hurt. Remember?

 

I have seen enough Dolphins DCs ‘simplify’ their defenses to get a nervous twitch whenever I hear it suggested.

Ds that rely on complexity and execution of assignments just stop being effective when the complexity level is lowered. If you want to play a simple D, play Wannyball or Tampa 2 or some such scheme that is designed from the ground up to have simple assignments.

 

Yeah, but if you're complexity is causing a break down in communication and player ineffectiveness it kind of defeats the purpose of being complex.

 

I agree, do what you can with what you have.

On the flip side, any player stopping you from calling the better defense, should be cut or traded in the offseason.

I was a big Timmons fan to start the year...I don’t think he’s the brightest bulb so it may be taking him a little bit to adjust to a scheme he’s not been familiar with, remember, he was a 10 year vet in that steeler defense, I’m sure he has habits..

 

And he was playing like a monster to start the season.

 

Not sure what the big deal is. He was a stopgap player. The building block linebacker is on IR. Stopgap players are hit or miss but they don' effect the team long term. I like the way Timmons has played but it seems his head isn' into it lately.

 

I have been avoiding the mains for a while now lol just seems like a lot of senseless bashing now. I get everyone has their own idea of what success should be, but there is a civilized way to do this... i would hope

Saying it was a positive signing compared to what we had and also saying I was not happy with the signing because he was past his prime and not a real solution are not contradictory statements.

You are just trying to play with words and quoting snippets of comments out of context, which is what you always do when you are wrong. Anybody who reads my entire comments would know I was not all that happy with the Timmons signing and thought he had lost a step and was past his prime.

That is evident in his play now, a few instances of misscomunication or misalignment do not excuse his overall poor play. He can't cover Anybody, he is missing tackles. He looks exactly like what I said he was when we signed him, an old past his prime player who has lost a step.

Again, you and I both know you were wrong. It's ok I don't expect you to admit it. You will just keep arguing semantics and being a child about it.

 

Problem Hitman, some people see Aqua and Orange, so as soon as a bad player or coach puts on the Dolphin uniform they become great..

Timmons- Has played at a pro bowl level the majority of his time here. Has had a couple of down games for some reason. IMO, it's because of the issues I wrote about
Maxwell- Last year was overall good. This year he stunk up the joint.
Misi- If not for his injury he'd be an average player. Totally serviceable if not for his injury
