If Philbin's ok with it then so am I. He's got talent but hes a jerk and you can tell it already. He's griping about catches and you have Megatron across from you and Pettigrew and Scheffler at TE with Broyles behind him or along side him much of the year. He's managed 13 penalties(multiple personnel fouls) in two years, gotten in fist-fights with teammates, shows up late to practices, threatened to retire, demanded to be cut, purposefully screwed up in games to get back at his coaching staff.

And that's just in two years. Could you imagine how he would act if he were actually a good football player?

 

He's a good player that would give the Dolphins the deep threat they need. I would take a look if I were the Dolphins, but whether they signed him or not, I wouldn't change my plans at WR. I'd still go after Wallace or Jennings, and I'd still draft someone.

If they were interested they could sign him right away because he was released right? Free agency starts in March, but I thought that if a player were released you could sign him whenever. Does anyone know the rule on this?

 

He's been cut for a very good reason. He's the worst sort of player to have to put up with. It'd be crazy to pick him up.

I would only give him a 2nd chance if no one signs him or he is somehow very humbled.

Right now he is a player who cried his way out of his contract. Signing him right now will just prove that throwing a fit can get him what he wants.

And considering the short leash they had with Chad Johnson, I can't see them wanting to actively pursue Young. They'll be a decent amount of other fish in the ocean to go after.

When you look at what Stallworth did, you see a guy who was very honorable.

He could have fought that charge, and probably would have won. But he decided not to, because he didn't want to put that family through it.

Eh, that's a grey area. T problem with the Marshall trade was that we actually traded something for him... More than we got in return. That's a little bit different than signing a guy to a **** contract (all TY is probably going to get) and having the option to cut him if he acts up. And it's different than the Chad Johnson situation.. We were depending on Chad to be our #1.

I don't know enough about TY personality or on/off the field issues to say we should or shouldn't. If the coaches/GM feel a talented, young player is worth a gamble, I'm OK with it. As long as we're not dependent on him being our #2 or #3. Then there's a problem.

I said this in the draft forum and I'll say it again. The best ways to get talented quickly is to gamble. The same way NE did with Gronk, Moss, etc... For example, I wanted Janoris Jenkins badly, last year. Top 5 cover players, who've proven their skills against NFL elites (AJ Jenkins and Julio Jones), are worth a 2nd round gamble.

Obviously Philbin wants good teammates. But my original point was that they had a short leash with Chad Johnson, who by all accounts wasn't a bad teammate, but wasn't worth the headache to them. If their tolerance level wasn't very high with Johnson to begin with, they most likely aren't going to entertain the notion of adding someone who probably has even bigger issues.

 

If Chad Johnson wasn't a good teammate, they wouldn't have brought him in.

I realize that. But my original reply in this thread was speaking of Johnson relative to Young. If the Dolphins had Chad Johnson, who we both agree wasn't a bad teammate, on a short leash, then obviously their tolerance level for a complete bozo like Young probably isn't going to be there. To me, just the fact that the coaching staff had Chad Johnson on a short leash tells me their tolerance threshold isn't simply about whether a guy's a bad teammate or not; it's also about how much other bullsh*t they don't particularly feel like putting up with.
