I want to believe, I just said i I want him to prove me wrong that he can't do it. Why not go deep 3 times a game? I don't think I misunderstood you, he hasn't done it yet for us. Playing devil's advocate here, maybe he can maybe he can't, he has a surgically repaired shoulder. I think the phin's staff especially Dan Henning knows who he has in Pennington and knows his dink and dunk absolutely kills the opponents defenses will at times. That theory works well when you have a lead. But when you play from behind you need sometimes to throw deep and as apparent in the Arizona game we couldn't do it. I think this week in Houston we're going to see some issues arise. Here I think you misunderstood me, you can read all the columnists in the world and its mostly speculation. Their opinions. If columnists were front office people I think the league would be in trouble. I didn't read a 2nd and 7th, I'm just telling you that the DOLPHINS got a 2nd and a 7th from the CHARGERS for Chambers. I don't know who would be better(Chambers or Williams), depends on the QB to me. I'm definitely in the opposition to trading multiple draft picks for Roy Williams, a WR who hasn't done much in a few years. I also pointed out that the Patriots only gave up a 4th to Oakland for Randy Moss. 4th rounder at best. The Wanny/Spielman days are over. I mean trading away draft picks as "bandages" and bankrupting the team in the process.
Ah ok. I understand what your saying. That's true. I think Detroit would be willing to trade Williams for a second because from what I understand, they aren't able to or don't want to pay two receivers top money. They could go and franchise Williams and then try to move him. I guess we'll agree to disagree here.
Miami Dolphins' next move should be bold | MiamiHerald.com Interesting read here, bit of an analysis from the herald on whether we should trade for roy or not... im still all for it!
I still say I wouldn't do it. To me picking up a high profile player through a trade means you think you've got what it takes now. To me trading a pick for a player says you've got everything else to go deep into the playoffs and maybe to the super bowl and win it. Call me a draft hog but I'm keeping my picks until maybe another year or two then I'll think about trading them.
I'm with you, nerfball -- I say we go get him. Parcells loves the "big guys" and is building a big, strong team -- I think Williams would be a tremendous acquisition and well worth a draft pick.
After today's dominant performance by Andre Johnson, the need for a big target and speed package WR like Roy Williams has been really highlighted. 0 contribution out of anyone besides Camarillo and Camarillo's at best a #3 guy today while Andre just bullied Will Allen and the CB's.
Please don't compare Andre Johnson to Roy Williams. Williams is a solid wide receiver but Johnson, when healthy, is arguably the most dangerous receiver in the league (on par with guys like T.O., Moss, and Brandon Marshall).
Williams is very comparable. His situation hasn't been quite the same and he's had to share catches far more than Johnson is always way up there in targets. Williams is very damn good and would do wonders for the offense. Johnson is better but that doesn't mean that Williams is chopped liver. I would say he's at the least as good as Chris Chambers. If you give Roy Williams, a guy who can push off of the press get a short catch in the perfect spot and get fifteen yards Pennington will have a baby.
Why not. When Roy Williams is healthy and has a semi-decent QB throwing to him, he is just as dangerous a WR as Andre Johnson. I will compare the two because those two are examples of elite-level talent who have both endured some injury issues and QB issues. Both are 6'3 WR's who can run sub 4.5, muscle out CB's, and run crisp routes. Solid is an understatement for Williams. When he's the #1 option, he can light it up with the best of them and for a piss-poor team like Detroit no less. They are both equally very dangerous WRs who can give you 1100+ seasons. Johnson hasn't cracked 1200 yards yet but Williams has. As Jaj notes, their situations are not the same and though he states that Williams is at least as good as Chambers, I think if Williams stays healthy and has a decent QB throwing to him, he can be better, and possibly be at Moss's level. Same goes for Johnson. If you're going to throw Johnson in with his injury history, you might as well toss Williams' hat in the mix who by the way has more career TD's despite being a year younger. The real top 5 most dangerous WR's (when healthy) has to have not only TO, Moss, and Marshall, but Fitzgerald, Boldin, Wayne, White, and Colston in addition to Williams and Johnson in consideration. Omitting Williams just reflects short-sightedness.
My two cents would to be pull this trade or even better contact the eagles and try to get lito sheppard to help out the defense. Because the WR's are suffient if the defense can stop people.
The first TD to Cobbs went 33 yards past the line of scrimmage in the air, 42 yards overall. It wasn't a beautiful throw, but he was running the wrong way, had to stop, turn his body around and let fly. Look, he doesn't have a great arm, everyone knows that. But no one starts in this league six years without the ability to throw the long ball. There's just no one to throw it to on this team right now. Back in August, someone did a comparison of Favre and Pennington on attempts of more than 20 yards over the past four years. Check it out. ESPN - Chad better than Brett on long balls - AFC East
Incorrect brother. It was a 1st, 3rd, and 6th. This was just announced by Adam Schefter on NFL Network.
Bro once it got that high, I don't think we would or should of got involved in that trade. We need our draft picks to help build this team. It is all good bro.
Totally agree.. way too much for us.. Will be funny to see if Detroit takes a WR in the first round. God that'd be hilarious!!!
I think Jerry Jones just lost his mind. Why bring in another wide receiver which will just piss off T.O. and then he will piss everyone else off in the locker room, and sulk and cry and whine??? They need a healthy QB not a WR. You got fleeced Jerry.
I can see maybe a first and something. or maybe a second and something. or a 2nd and a player.. but all that? no wonder we didn't take him.
Definitely IMO. I think with this deal and Miles Austin impressing them, Patrick Crayton will be on the market come off-season. If they choose to keep him, which would be difficult because of all the money tied up in the receiving core, then I could see them letting Mike Jefferson or Isiah Stanback go. Both are in the 6'1, 210 range I believe.
3 impressive WR's all 6'3 and up. Yeesh. When Romo gets back, I'll feel sorry for anyone trying to gameplan towards covering all 3. As for Crayton, someone will overpay him and I hope it's not us. He's looked impressive in spurts but invisible other times. Jefferson and Stanback are both scrubs and no less what we've been fielding all this time.
Yeah, it'll be really interesting how teams will cover the 'boys receiving targets now. Teams have defended Terrell Owens well this season with a Cover 7 and being physical with him. But with the addition of Roy, that's going to be hard to do. In reference to Crayton, over pay him? You mean in a trade or giving him money? I'm guessing trade because he signed a 4 year deal worth $14 million last off-season. I agree on his play. I thought that he benefited from the attention that Owens received and as I said in another thread, I think he's best fit in the slot which isn't what we need IMO. I don't know much about Jefferson and I've seen very little on Isiah Stanback. I just brought them up as possible cuts. I've seen Stanback return kicks in pre-season, I think this past pre-season or last pre-season, either of the two. That's really it, aside from one game in college. Maybe they can somehow contribute on ST's if we pick them up.
So the earlier 2nd round offer was just BS. anyway, no way we would have mortgaged our future like that.
They've just created the most dangerous WR duo east of Phoenix. If we thought Tony Romo led a dynamic offense, wait till he gets back. They might even make statuesque Brad Johnson look good. Trade. Someone desperate for WR help could do for Dallas what Dallas did for Detroit. Isaiah Stanback certainly wouldn't be cutting it as a QB in the pros and I still have doubts as to whether he can truly convert to WR. They may hold onto Jefferson as a project but really neither will be more than that.
Yeah but I still don't see Super Bowl for them despite the acquisition. They have no leadership, a struggling secondary, they are over-confident and watching them on Sundays, they struggle to play defense laterally which is why they got beat by Washington. Not to mention, their offensive line keeps getting Romo beaten up even though they've only allowed seven sacks this year. I think they struggle with quick pass-rushers. Antonio Smith did a good job against them on Sunday. He didn't get any sacks but he pressured Romo a lot and put him on his back. Gotcha. Isn't he slow for a WR?
They don't have the killer instinct on either side or the determination I'd hoped for. I thought Zach would bring that mentality to the D and it hasn't shown for whatever reason. Of course, Newman's been hobbled and the OL is deteriorating but they'll probably fare better than they did before when Romo returns. I wonder if a few losses will put the sting in them. But any team can get rolling and if this team does, watch out. Isaiah Stanbeck ran a 4.6 so yea. But then again, Anquan Boldin was also not much of a speedster (4.7 last I remember) but he used his experience as a QB to run superb routes despite just 23 games as a WR in his college days. He was also a bit more athletic.
That's true. Yeah but Boldin also has very strong wrists, difficult to tackle and very good hands which I doubt Stanback has lol.
