Not really. I don't think he should have ever been hired to begin with but now that he's here I believe he should get a fair shot. One year post Irish isn't enough time, he should get another season at least imo.

LOL not coming around, I've been here for years. I was criticicizing Philbin before it was en vogue, back when any and everything was Ireland's fault ;).

Imagine how I feel now that that the Firelanders are Philbummers, trying to lecture me on the same stuff I pointed out to them much, much, earlier.

I was beat down on this board for the same stuff. Stopped posting for a while because every thread was a hate Ireland thread and it was all his fault. People were just making stuff up for the sake of bashing the guy.

    I remember

No but I remember what you said about opinions, that "they're like bu**holes. All the sh**ty ones get tossed". Never agreed with it.... but each his own I guess.

    because Philbin sent them off?
It's funny, last year, USA Today did a story on best drafting teams over the past 5 years, and wouldn't you know who turned up 8th [see below]. Do you have Miami confused with Jacksonville? I mean, I know they're both in the state of Florida and all so....

Yes yes, definitely. I punch myself in the dick every time I have to watch Reshad Jones, Jelani Jenkins, Charles Clay, Lamar Miller, and Olivier Vernon take the field. Plus Nolan Carroll just had a solid year for Philly.

Yes, I hated having to see all those meddling third rate players like Brent Grimes, Brandon Marshall, Mike Wallace, Reggie Bush, Karlos Dansby, Cam Wake, and Reshad Jones sign or re-sign because of Ireland.

Yet with all this talent but no playoffs since 2008. Our players underachieve. Sure our coaches haven't helped either but its not all on them. And your chart has the Patriots as the best drafting team? That's laughable. That team is all Brady and Beli-cheat.

You Ireland supporters can keep piling on but the fact is he's long gone and hasn't found a gig in this league since, not counting his very brief time as consultant to Seattle. As I've said, there's former GMs who did worse than Ireland who have found work elsewhere in the league and for some reason he hasn't and don't give me that lame excuse that we're still paying him. If he was that good at his job some team would've bought out his contract to sever any conflict of interest with us. I don't miss Ireland being the face of this franchise which had us under a negative light. I don't want players openly stating and telling their fellow NFL teammates not to go to Miami because their GM might call your mother a whore, ect. He was an embarrassment to this proud organization and I'm glad he's gone.

In Ireland's 6 year tenure here, he had either 8 or 9, 2nd round draft picks in which to get ONE of them to contribute to the teams current success. That alone, is complete incompetence and to me a FIREABLE offense, all by itself, not counting all the other horribleness & embarrassment he caused the organization.

There is a reason he is still unemployed at this point.

And where are the playoff wins with those guys ? And maybe, just MAYBE if he could have hit on just one or two of his 2nd round draft picks it might have been the difference maker. But he wasted 6 drafts worth of highly prized assets and it killed this team. He negated ANY good he did in getting those other players.

LOL that chart is trash. All i have to look at is the 2013 draft where we wasted all our picks except Jenkins. And let me not get started with the other drafts. 2012 has several starters and is easily Irelands best year but the others are just as terrinle as 2013.

Tannehill, Wake, Grimes, Miller, Pouncy, Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, Matthews, Clay, Simms, Jordan, Vernon, Shelby, Starks, Odrick, Jenkins, Misi, Taylor, Davis, Jones. That plus a nice cap situation for Hickey to walk into and go and sign fat Albert. That's how I see it, OVERALL he did good work. Look at who Philly has drafted in that time span and how they got rid of Jackson this year. They have FIRST ROUND busts like Danny Watkins, Marcus Smith II, and they traded up to take Brandon Grahm over JPP and Earl Thomes. Other than Dion Jordan (who isn't yet a bust) we have 0 first round busts during Ireland's tenure. They also have a few colossal second round busts like Jaiquann Jarret just like us. The difference is Chip has a 20-12 CAREER RECORD! Why? They don't play in the afc east, and they have a real coach. Their future is just a bright, possibly even brighter than ours with NO QB, and a ton of roster problems all over the place. But why do they win other than their lucky division? Coaching, our true weakness. Not to say Ireland was perfect or even great, but he wasn't that bad either, ask Philly.

To me Ireland's biggest mistakes was letting go of two of the guys he brought in. Vontae and Carpentar (cheap b******). Just rewatched the Bills Pack game and Carpentar practically single handedly beat GB, including a dope 51 yard boot. Sturgis concerns me.

I think you're remembering Carpenter much more fondly due to the fact that Sturgis isn't great. Miami was only in the top half of the league once while Carpenter was here.

Carpenter had a solid year for Buffalo I believe and would probably be an upgrade over Sturgis as of right now. That's all, not overly fond of him, but letting him go was still probably a mistake based on and correct me if im wrong but success he had this year and has had in Buffalo. He was pretty damn perfect against GB I know that for sure. He's got leg too. A long of 58 this year and 34 for 38 on the year. Not too shabby. Hope those stats don't mess with ur anti-Ireland agenda lol. Carpentar played well based on statistics.

He also traded away Davis and Smith and "rebuilt" our LB core. Our WRs aside from Wallace were garbage. The Marshall trade was a disaster both ways. Miller has been serviceable but our RBs for the most part were underwhelming. Bush did his best here but was let go. We still don't have a seam TE as good as Clay is, and jury is still out on Sims. OL is STILL a work in progress. Secondary still has holes. Granted some of these moves were due to Philbin not wanting any outspoken players but Ireland wasn't forced to make those moves, so he's just as complicit. Overall, Ireland was an average to below average GM and Philbin is an average to below average coach. Low and behold, we're stuck in mediocrity.

We might be but with a couple more pieces. Like a La'el Collins or Danny Shelton and a few other good moves, thanks to Ireland, we have potential.

How about trading up for Dion Jordan when we were solid up front already and sorely needed OL help during one of most stocked drafts for linemen. Or trading up for Daniel Thomas. And our current draft situation has nothing to do with Ireland.

One of the big three olineman from that year some media people are already calling a bust, I think Eric Fisher or the number two pick I forget. Lane has played well but has his flaws too. Based on nfl play alone I think we should have selected Ansah personally. Less of a tweener than Jordan and that true DE that could be learning from Wake right now like Jordan should be. I have no problem with the trade up, kinda wish we took Ansah, but the trade was great value to move up that high. It's still early too and I just hope your willing to admit your wrong IF Jordan does turn it around, just like i'll admit Ireland screwed up if Jordan truly busts. Olineman can be easier to find than defensive studs. This year there are like 7 tackle prospects who could go top 20. Not so many stud defensive ends, rarer commodity imo. And with fat Albert coming back, Ireland gave Hickey the cap space to fix this oline. We're currently only a few months away from being able to draft another first round olineman, giving us 4 on the team, none of which are weak.

Just thinking about it too, ironically, for as much as you seem to dilsike Irelands work, every single player in your picture is an Ireland pick up lol. We got Starks in 08 the same year we drafted Long, but i'm sure Parcells kinda ran the show at first. Ireland built the d, Coyle screws it up imho.

I do give credit when it's due and one thing Ireland got right was building our D-line. I'm a fan of good defenses so I'll give Ireland praise for building up our D even with our shortcomings there. Nothing ironic about that.

OK then we just simply disagree on the quality of his body of work. I understand the points as to why he wasn't particularly great, but honestly, as a life long Dolfan from the DC area STARVING for Dolphins success. Finding a young franchise QB, RB, TE (imo), and the work he did on defense is good enough for me. Just glad we didn't trade 3 firsts and a second for Bob, could be a lot worse, trust me.

The problem with Miami coming out of the 2007 CaMueller era was that we had initiated the building of one style of team. We drafted Ted Ginn Jr, Samson Satele, Patrick Cobbs, etc. Soliai and Fields were in that mix but when we elected to blow things up after the 1-15 year, I think we had a real problem.

We brought in coaches that wanted to go about things in an entirely different way. We looked good under Chad Pennington during the first year. Brown, Williams, Ginn, Fasano...they were all assets to the team.

It was the transition to Chad Henne and the reliance on his QB'ing abilities over the next 3 seasons that really marked the decline of the team. You can blame the collapse of the team on Ireland or Sparano but I think the talent Ireland provided was adequate. I think the motivational abilities of Sparano were adequate. I think the OCs & DCs we had were adequate.

The failure ultimately lies in not having a QB that is even average. If we had drafted Matt Ryan instead of Jake Long, the franchise may have gone in a different direction.

When Chad Henne is your QB, I don't know what to tell you. Your team just isn't going to be very good. You're just not going to get the best out of your players.

If we drafted Ryan we probably wouldn't have Tannehill. In the long run not drafting Matt Ryan may have given us the best chance of winning a superbowl. We needed a total rebuild after Cameron and Long was the perfect piece to start off with. Couldn't have gone 11-5 without Long, injuries kinda hindered his career.

The problem with this franchise is that it's never been able to find a quality QB.

No coaching staff will survive without one. When you look at the list of QBs the Dolphins have employed since Marino, you know the story.

You don't have argue about what the scheme was or how well the GM drafted.

If you don't have a quality QB, your plan just isn't going to work and the guys you draft aren't going to reach their potential.
