Well, the 2010 negotiations aren't acrimonious either. The reason? They are fairly non-existent. The Patriots are hiding behind the excuse they have to wait for the new CBA to be in place so they can structure Brady's new deal. The fact that nothing's moving has Brady more than a little pissed because, well, it's always something when it comes to money and the Patriots.
And that goes back to his rookie year when, instead of floating Brady the $60,000 bonus he was supposed to get as the 199th pick, the Patriots made him take a $38,000 bonus.
Brady didn't forget. And when they gave him a raise in 2002, he made them include the $22K they shorted him in 1999.
