that is tom cable. tom gamble was the 49ers director of player personnel, he left san fran and became the eagles vp of player personnel.
Thanks for the info glad I did not make an *** of myself by posting my intial reaction. I almost said I rather give the job to eric mangini before I offered it to him
He wanted Kaepernick..joe staley...Navarro bowman..Aldon Smith..Mike iupati..justin Smith..Patrick Willis..Dashon Goldson.. That's impressive.. Why did he get fired?
He wanted them, or did those picks happen while he worked for the team and someone else was responsible for picking them?
I'd prefer Heckert (frankly because he's been my guy forever at this point), but this guy does also look very impressive.
Doing some reading, he apparently wanted to go back to Philly (his original starting city) and with 49ers GM Baalke's blessing, was allowed to do so. A mutual parting of the ways ehem...
I've posted this excellent piece by Adam Caplan before, but thank god it's actually relevant to Miami now The Next NFL General Managers: http://thesidelineview.com/columns/caplans-nfl-corner/updated-next-nfl-general-managers
He wasn't fired from the 49ers. He took a lateral move to Philadelphia because that's where he's from and he has ties to the franchise. He wanted to go home. Boy, do I type slowly.
Sounds like an excellent candidate. Also found it interesting his connection to the Ryan family. If he were hired, could he possibly look at Rob Ryan as a replacement for Philbin? Rob Ryan along with a strong OC would be a huge step up from what we had last season. Gamble as GM, Ryan as HC and Norv Turner as OC would be a dream scenario.
I'm looking for any clues that lead to real live personnel evaluations...this capologist and analytic stuff is driving me crazy..I just want a good behind the scenes, quiet film geek..who's good at his job..
So many of you all, saying you'd be happy with Khan. Yet, no one so far can give an exact reason why. He has no background in personnel. The GM for the Dolphins will have final say on personnel. Running free agency and the draft. Khan has never been involved with that.
Yeah, Omar Khan is a numbers guy. He's essentially in the Dawn Aponte role with the Steelers. I don't know why people keep bringing him up.
Khan is an economics guy. I'd be interested in him simply because he is very likely to take a value based approach to building the roster with the use of analyitcs. I like Gamble as well, as he comes from two organizations who are very strong from an analytics standpoint. We need to get away from devoting all resources to film study and start using numbers to help make better decisions.
I must be getting senile. I've been a fan of this team for about 45 years and do not recall a safety/special teamer named Tom Gamble playing for Miami.
yea, Khan has always been the guy that Cowher would reportedly bring on as GM should he ever return to the sidelines, and in that case Cowher would really be the man with final say on personnel. idk about hiring Khan without Cowher though, there are a lot of better GM candidates out there imo.
The guy who punched out an assistant in Oakland as HC? I believe you're thinking of Tim Gamble Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 4
Yes. In fact, he moved to Philly on his own volition to be close to home once again. Also his dad had been managing the Eagles. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 4
It sounds like Ross is going to have to give him complete power and a lot of money to lure him from Philadelphia.
If Gamble got to choose his own head coach, which he probably won't get the chance to until after the 2014 season, Jim Tomsula the 49ers defensive line coach since 07 would be one of if not the top candidate for the job.
Trent Gamble... That was the year we were down to our fourth string safety covering Randy Moss one on one...
So Gamble sounds like a solid choice by Ross to be his top target, except for the "small issue" of Gamble having what appears to be his dream situation in Philadelphia. Is that something that can really be overcome? Don't know. If he's really happy where he is Ross might as well go to option 2.
