The Buccaneers are moving on to stage two of their search for a General Manager, but both Florida teams will be moving on without Tom Gamble.
According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, Gamble is content to stay with the Eagles for another year, rather than pursue either of the available G.M. jobs in the Sunshine State.

Not unsurprising, it was always likely that he wanted to stay with the Eagles. If you don't enter, you can't win though, so at least we tried to lure him.
3...2...1 though on some of the media using it to say no-one wants to come to the Dolphins.xphinfanx and Rocky Raccoon like this. -

Tad bit too much hype around this guy for my liking as it was.

Didn't have high hopes for Gamble coming anyway. Xanders should be the top priority.

In all seriousness Miami has three strikes working against them with respect to Tom Gamble and I was actually mildly surprised that it got to the level of a public overture and his name getting out to the press and being confirmed.
The three strikes are:
1. He moved to Philadelphia to be close to his sick father who is now in hospice care which means he doesn't have much time left. If I'm in his shoes and I've got a great job with the Eagles who are an up-and-coming team, and I'm there specifically because the dynamo head coach wanted me there, I know the NFL will be there for me in a year or two. My dying parent won't be. Priorities.
2. As soon as Armando Salguero pointed out the close relationship between Norman Braman and both Harry and Tom Gamble, that sealed it for me. There was NO WAY this would happen. Tom Gamble is not going to be the right hand man for a close family friend's mortal enemy.
3. Finally, yes absolutely Miami's organizational reputation applies to this situation as it does to all situations. The offensive coordinator search has turned into a Farrelly brothers movie in large part because of this factor. It's not something that can't be overcome but you're kidding yourself if you don't think it's a factor.MonstBlitz and Samphin like this. -

I wonder though....
How much hiring a top notch GM would make the OC job more attractive.
Wouldnt an offensive coordinator feel more comfortable if we had a top notch personel person in place? -

At this point, I think I'd reset my preference for GM Candidates as:
1) Xanders
2) Licht
3) Triumvirate of Boomer, CK and Conuficus
4) Dawson
5) Farmer
6) Gaine -

Surprise surprise, Gamble not interested because of the structure of the franchise...smh.

there's nothing wrong with a GM having a voice in who is on the staff, obviously he wants the guy that's going to put the players he acquires in the best position to succeed on the field. most HC's do choose who makes up their staff, but if you're a coveted executive and an owner wants you to run his team but the downside is you'll be stuck with an unproven HC that you have no history with, you'd probably want your opinion heard on who should be calling the plays too. -

well this sucks. :(
the dolphins have interviewed a lot of good candidates so hopefully we land one of them. -
1. GM is hired, hires a new HC in conjunction with the team owner and the cap/negotiating person reports to the GM. Assistant coach hires are cleared/filtered through the GM. In other words, he has input there.
2. New GM has no control over the HC as the previous one is retained, new assistant/s are hired without his approval/before his arrvial, the team capologist/negotiator wants to report directly to the owner, not the GM. So basically if they discagree she can probablytell him to f-off.
Gamble would have obviously preferred scenario #1, and there's no mystery there as to why. Smart man.ASOT likes this. -
Get Farmer. That should be plan B if we can't get Gamble. Farmer or Licht i've heard good things about. It really is a crapshoot now. Lets just pray he's better than Ireland whoever we hire.

Hire an OC immediately - Ross is an idiot and incompetent. Knee jerk reaction.
Hire an OC after completing several interviews - The organization is stupid and dysfunctional. They were turned down by all the candidates that they didn't hire because it organization is the laughing stock of the NFL.
Hire an OC after you hire your GM. Ross is an idiot and incompetent. All the good OCs were already hired. How can he wait so long? He is indecisive.
Sometimes I get the feeling that some people are so bitter and angry that they will take anything that happens and turn it into a negative.Ducken, Mcduffie81, scotty_irnbru and 6 others like this. -

Top dog doesn't necessarily mean the best. There is no foolproof way of picking a general manager, in any sport. It's a high variance proposition. -
Who knows for sure why Gamble did or did not choose the Miami Dolphins. I'm sure the father issue definitely played. Miami's organizational structure? Who knows? If the "sources" are to be believed, it was at least some concern.
I'm not going to ledge jump or slice wrists. I'm just taking note that once again Stephen Ross was unable to get his top candidate (reportedly). That's disappointing no matter how you look at it.
But the OC hire was a good get, so it's not all losses for Ross and company. -
