Tom Gamble won’t pursue Bucs or Dolphins G.M. jobs

The Buccaneers are moving on to stage two of their search for a General Manager, but both Florida teams will be moving on without Tom Gamble.
According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, Gamble is content to stay with the Eagles for another year, rather than pursue either of the available G.M. jobs in the Sunshine State.

Claymore95subscriberNot unsurprising, it was always likely that he wanted to stay with the Eagles. If you don't enter, you can't win though, so at least we tried to lure him.
3...2...1 though on some of the media using it to say no-one wants to come to the Dolphins.

In all seriousness Miami has three strikes working against them with respect to Tom Gamble and I was actually mildly surprised that it got to the level of a public overture and his name getting out to the press and being confirmed.
The three strikes are:
1. He moved to Philadelphia to be close to his sick father who is now in hospice care which means he doesn't have much time left. If I'm in his shoes and I've got a great job with the Eagles who are an up-and-coming team, and I'm there specifically because the dynamo head coach wanted me there, I know the NFL will be there for me in a year or two. My dying parent won't be. Priorities.
2. As soon as Armando Salguero pointed out the close relationship between Norman Braman and both Harry and Tom Gamble, that sealed it for me. There was NO WAY this would happen. Tom Gamble is not going to be the right hand man for a close family friend's mortal enemy.
3. Finally, yes absolutely Miami's organizational reputation applies to this situation as it does to all situations. The offensive coordinator search has turned into a Farrelly brothers movie in large part because of this factor. It's not something that can't be overcome but you're kidding yourself if you don't think it's a factor.

How much hiring a top notch GM would make the OC job more attractive.
Wouldnt an offensive coordinator feel more comfortable if we had a top notch personel person in place?

I don't believe this part. The other two yes. Not this. There is 32 jobs. As highly sought as a qb position then. You won't turn down a chance.solely cos you perceive the situation to be volatile. If you believed in yourself you'd take it and make it better.

Surprise surprise, Gamble not interested because of the structure of the franchise...smh.
Gamble, considered among the league's best personnel men, has decided he won't interview for the Dolphins job because he is happy in his current role with the Eagles, isn't thrilled about the structure Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has outlined for his football operations, and is confident other opportunities will come along in the future.
Multiple sources familiar with Gamble's thinking say he wants the opportunity to be a general manager but wants the job when he has full power and authority over the roster and has the ability to make a decision over the head coach and other people in the organization.
Gamble was apparently puzzled why the Dolphins were already searching for an offensive coordinator with no input from the GM. It should be noted the fallout between former GM Jeff Ireland and head coach Joe Philbin had its genesis in Ireland's distaste for offensive coordinator Mike Sherman's work.

That is not true. You'll know its not true because Gamble won't be leaving Philly.
We hired Lazor from Philly, so there's still a chance! All Ross has to do is offer Gamble more power and he might take the job.

If this puzzles Gamble (and I really doubt it did) then he isn't ready to be a GM as most HC's hire their staff.

It would make more sense and be more typical imo if the new GM in conjunction with the team owner hired a new HC- in that situation they'd probably be more on the same page when it comes to hiring assistant coaches. Gamble has plenty of experience and quite a track record, I think that it's more of a question of his comments making sense than him not being ready to be a GM, he has plenty of experience for that position. He's just smart enough to see the problems ahead in Miami.

Exactly... the GM's that hire head coaches interview them and hear the list of names they'd target for their staff should they get the job...if they don't like the names, that could affect the guy's chances at getting the job.
there's nothing wrong with a GM having a voice in who is on the staff, obviously he wants the guy that's going to put the players he acquires in the best position to succeed on the field. most HC's do choose who makes up their staff, but if you're a coveted executive and an owner wants you to run his team but the downside is you'll be stuck with an unproven HC that you have no history with, you'd probably want your opinion heard on who should be calling the plays too.

You should go ahead and add "IMO" to the end of that. Gamble's philosophy does not fit w/ Ross's so they shake hands and move on. Happens all the time.

he'll leave, he just has to be persuaded to leave, and to do that we have to make certain concessions. If you want the top dog out there, you have to make your opening as appealing to him as possible. We are not doing everything we can to entice him to take the job
