Here's a few things Sparano had to say on his local TV show. I know many posters have no access to it. I'm going by memory but, it is accurate.
On Pouncey- He has been VG, picks up things after seeing them once. The vets have taken him under their wings, and has done very well.
On our rookies- They have all played a lot in pre-season, and have not had any problem in adapting to the NFL, they are not in awe of playing here, a good thing.
On Gates- First time I've seen Tony smile in a long time. "He can run." He came from a small school but, has picked up the O quickly.
On Chad- He has done a great job, especially in the off season workouts. He has become a leader on this team.
He really likes this team, you could see it, and hear it.
I do as well.

Last year Sparano was also very positive going into the season. He talked about how he loved the players on his team at the time and felt that his players had what it takes to have a great season. Of course we all know how last season turned out. Every coach in the NFL is going to put their best face forward and say all the right things before the first game. I don't really care what he says at this point. All I care about is the Dolphins showing improvement this season and making the payoffs. Anything less than that and Sparano, Ireland, Henne, and many of the other players on this team need to looking for a job some place else next year.

I have no problem being considered a whiner when it comes to my view of the Dolphins after the way they have played since Parcells, Ireland, Sparano, and Ross took over this organization.
I just hope that after the regular season is over, Ross, Sparano, and Ireland aren't whining about why the Dolphins didn't make the playoffs again. I would love nothing better than all of the fans on here who are predicting success for the Dolphins this season, to be able to tell me," I told you so". -
Can't wait until Monday Night!!!! I seem to have a different vibe going into this season. I am usually very optimistic, its just who I am, but I just feel like things fell the way they fell for a reason. I think alot of things have happened, or not happened and they have all been looked at from both sides of the fence. Some think thier good, some think they were terrible, I just think the Dolphins are going to be very very competitive and will prove alot of the pundits wrong about our season.

Ok evidently my post wasnt liked so I will expand so my intention was is clear.
I am not trying to bait anyone, I just dont get the point of nitpicking every comment from the coach or a player and finding the negative in it. Why bother? Is Sparano supposed to say he thinks his team sucks? Should a player come out and say he cant get it done? As a fan, dont you want your team to come out with confidence and positive statements? What should he have said? It will be a long year as a fan if all you see is the negative and predicting that they will be horrible. what fun is that. It is like sitting in your house saying to yourself ' I know I am going to get cancer, I just know it' It will drive you batty worrying about it, when all you can do is eat right exercise dont smoke etc and still not guarenteed not to get it. So you only control so much. As a fan, we control nothing other than whether we support or not. It will drive you to depression being negative. Let it play out. I am not saying be all positive and homer glasses. I am saying it is depressing to read negativity no matter what is said, what is reported.
Anyway it doesnt seem to serve any purpose to psychoanalyze every comment negativelyMrClean likes this. -
I have spent well over $150,000 purchasing season tickets and traveling to more than 30 away games over the last 40 years. I never had a problem with spending money to support the Dolphins when I felt they had a real interest in being one of the best teams in the NFL. Heck, I even continued to go to the games when they were 1-15 and I had no problem purchasing season tickets the last three years with Sparano as the head coach. After sitting and watching the Dolphins go 1-7 at home last season. I decided, along with thousands of other season ticket holders, that I would not renew my season tickets if Ross retained Ireland and Sparano for this season.
Ross made a decision to keep Ireland and Sparano. I made a decision not to purchase season tickets. I will still be sitting by the TV tonight rooting for the Dolphins and hoping Sparano proves me wrong. After supporting the Dolphins with my money for 40 years. I figure if the Dolphin organization wants to convince me that I should spend more money on tickets, it is about time they start providing me with something beside a mediocre football team. A decade of irrelevance by this organization is about all I care to take. -
I’m glad Coach Sparano got another shot this year and pleasantly surprised the 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense that was played in the past seems to be in the rear-view mirror. That being said, I also think it is put up or go home time.
The naysayers could be right and this year could turn out to be a huge debacle and a new regime will be brought in. I just can’t wrap by brain around how anyone can attempt to argue that the organization has somehow incurred some major setback since the arrival of the new management team. If we take an unbiased look at what this group has accomplished as opposed to the previous two, it’s pretty clear the talent level has been upgraded across the board and the results are better.
3 years with Sparano 25-24 - 1 AFC East title
3 years Saban/Cameron 16-32 – 0 playoff appearances
3 years Wannstedt/Bates 23-25 – 0 playoff appearances
Worse-case scenario, they crash and burn, a new regime comes in and is the beneficiary of a pretty solid core group of young players as well as a full compliment of draft picks. Something these guys didn’t have.

That said, Sparano admitting he micromanaged, that he ran outdated offense, is an admission of what most said of him. IMO that is what a big man does. I like Sparano, I like he will admit when he is wrong. Look at Belicheck, he was a disaster in Clev as a head coach his 1st time as a head coach. he learned and honed his craft. Sparano has that blue collar toughness, he is a football guy thru and thru, someone BP handpicked. I dont like BP but he has a good coaching tree. My point is, Sparano could have folded and lost the team the way the offseason transpired, yet the team loves him. Chowder who cant speak ill enough of teh team well offensive players (not really, but is blunt in regards to some players), loves Sparano . They all would go to bat for him.
Does it mean success? No. But in his 3 years, we have never really sucked and late season collapses in each year the last 2 cost us playoffs but we were in contention thru 3/4 of each season minimum. Better play from Henne and why not us?
