Matt Roth, OLB (12)
Speculation: He’s been mentioned a couple of times, but there’s been nothing concrete on Roth.
What Should Happen: A team should read my article and make him a number two pass rusher. Oh hello, Chiefs, how you doing?
Braylon Edwards, WR (24)
Speculation: Edwards tweeted that he feels the Jets don’t want him back, and while he removed that tweet, there other dealings may limit their ability to lock a talented receiver like Edwards down. Real good down the field threat, the Vikings have been interested, and don’t discount the Redskins.
What Should Happen: I really don’t know. My gut tells me Floyd to the Vikings, which leaves Edwards where? San Francisco is a pretty nice place to live, but will they shell out top receiver money? Edwards is likely to cost more than Floyd.
.Manny Lawson, OLB (25)
Speculation: Before free agency started there was a lot of talk of teams that would be interested in Lawson. Well those teams are either not interested or playing it awfully coy. Some rumors suggest teams are waiting to check out Lawson’s knee on the back of an old ACL tear. That makes sem
What Should Happen: The more I think about it, the more KC seems like a good fit for him. Presuming they don’t go with Matt Roth. I have Roth ranked higher, so Lawson should be selling himself before teams can pull the trigger on a superior player in Roth.
.Zach Miller, TE (27)
Speculation: Another player we’ve heard next to nothing about. Teams just don’t appear to value tight ends in free agency as much as they do other positions. Either that or they feel it’s a given he returns to the Raiders.
What Should Happen: He’s a better player than Greg Olsen, but that trade and subsequent contract he agreed should encourage people to show their interest. He’s an every down tight end who just needs to get a little bit more consistent game to game.

Top 10 waived players:
WR Michael Jenkins
In 12 games in 2010, Jenkins had a +5.2 rating in receiving which was good for 22nd best in the league. A drop and fumble in the playoffs doesn’t leave a good taste in the mouth, and the Falcons upgraded with Julio Jones, making Jenkins expendable. A number of free agent receivers returned to their 2010 teams, so a few teams are still looking to upgrade. Jenkins offers an experienced option.
.TE Todd Heap
The Ravens needed to cut a few players, and they spent two picks on tight ends last year which lessened the need to keep Heap around. While you wouldn’t want him to block for you, in 2010 he was still one of the best receiving tight ends in the league. His 15 yards per catch tied him for fifth in the league. He also caught 70% of passes thrown his way – about average for the position. Of course, his age is an issue, but he can be a quick fix somewhere.
.G Jacob Bell
The Rams upgraded the guard position with Harvey Dahl from the Falcons. They asked Bell to take a pay cut and he wouldn’t, so despite being the best starting linemen on the Rams in 2010, he has been released. He gives more value to a team that likes to pass, as his +7.1 pass block rating was third best for left guards in 2010. However, his -3.8 run block rating was a problem as you typically need reliability in that department from your guards.
.G Rich Seubert / C Shaun O’Hara
The Giants decided they wanted to get younger on the offensive line and save some money, so Seubert and O’Hara were both cut. While Seubert is close to average in run and pass blocking, it’s worth noting his +4.5 screen blocking grade was the second highest in the league, indicating an ability to move and zero-in on targets in space. O’Hara was a solid run blocker with a +1.4 rating, although he allowed nine combined pressures which was a little high for 218 pass snaps. With so many teams needing help on the offensive line, each of these players could be an upgrade somewhere

In another example of a team swapping out talents, the Dolphins signed Kevin Burnett to replace Crowder at ILB. It’s arguable to me if that is an upgrade, as Crowder had a +14.0 run stop rating in 2010 despite missing five games. He had a positive run D rating in all but one game, and his -0.7 pass coverage rating doesn’t make him much of a liability in the pass game. He is definitely a player with some game left in him for a 3-4 defense.
I never did understand all the hate for Channing Crowder. He wasn't ever going to make a big play in the passing game, and you knew that about him. But he was good against the run, was smart, communicated a lot of calls to the defense, and was a big motivator in the locker room. The defense performed poorer in every game he missed and the stats reflect it. His prescence will be missed.

JajNew MemberMiller is arguably the seventh best TE in the league he has to be higher than that. Just an all-around TE.
Bring this man back into the fold if you want some real leadership on this team.

IDK...there isn't a TE in the league Crowder wasn't able to trail by 5 yards all the way to the end zone.

If the Eagles can do all this surely the Dolphins can get Zach Miller or Braylon and/or bring back Ricky or sign Barber. We need all the help we can get on offense.

Starters are usually better than backups... It doesn't mean a starting caliber player (like Burnett) can't easily replace him. We have dansby after all...

Injuries, 1 dimensional, inability to produce big plays, ability to allow big plays (ie: any QB draw within 15 yards of the goal line = auto TD) and on top of it a big mouth.

I'm sure Burnett will produce just fine. But someone is going to have to take over communication on the defense. We can hope it's Dansby, and most likely it will be. And never underestimate the power of a good motivator on the field. That's all I'm saying.

This is true. I wont deny that. That's on these guys for giving him such a big contract. I wonder if they even approached him about restructuring before they cut him.

Hmm, there is still quite a bit of talent on that list, one of the things people perhaps do not know is the Cap changes 8/4, all of the bonus monies and salaries of fmr players all are wiped off of the books on that day meaning teams like the Broncos willl find themselves with an extra 17 million to use.
Looking at that list, who would help us more, Matt Roth or Manny Lawson?
Pads, with Roth you know what you are getting .... an above average SOLB- non-passing down OLB. He can pressure and hold the edge, but is not suited for 'coverage'
Lawson, seems a better fit at WOLB, but brings cover skills and tremendous athletic ability .... is a better player if healthy - but not sure he is a need for us.
Whilst we have both agreed for some time that OLB still needs some help to get us there with some added pressure of the edge, i believe a SOLB is what we are in more need of.

Well, Roth has the groin issues, what I've heard about Lawson is his old ACL injury is scaring teams.
There are 3 or 4 really top quality OLB's still on the market right now, not sure if they even bother prioritizing landing one though, suspect they believe Burnett is the passrusher we have lacked.
Pads, agree brother .... but adding Burnett only gives us yet another 6'3", 245 ish LB ... so add Rivera, Edds, Burnett, Misi and Wake -- all different, but all the same relative size. Still leaves us short at the 275ish range for SOLB ... and IKE and Moses haven't materialized.
I like Burnett's blitzing capability -- something we've lacked from the inside for a very long time .... but - yep, he sure could move to the outside and swap with Misi on passing downs (since we've been contemplating that potential move all offseason). Even Misi onthe inside would get much improved pressure vs Crowder at any point in his career.
I think Dobbins is at risk this season ..... and i'd like to see what Rivera brings as a back-up, and looking forward to seeing Edds in the mix.
Add a no kidding SOLB, and our LB corps becomes a strength and our front 7 becomes very, very good .....
