5. I dont think he should have started year one. Remember, he was a second round pick. We took him earlier than he probably should have gone as well. Its not too often 2nd round picks start first year, you usually know you have to do some development, and work out some issues with them.

1. Parcells put this team on the right direction. Easy to criticize Parcells without saying who you'd have hired instead.
2. Rex Ryan??? Really? I don't want that guy representing my team. He's a classless jerk. A classless jerk who had one excellent playoff run.

4. The Penny argument is not if you're rationale is draft positioning. Only losers want their team to lose games in order to gain draft positioning. Its a defeatist attitude. 5. Not starting Henne was the right move. He had time to learn the NFL without getting killed or having his confidence shot.

 

I disagree with number four. Penny was a winner and a guy you definitely wanted to have on your new team. Rex Ryan is a jack*** but it's hard to argue that his team hasn't been better prepared for this season. For whatever the reason. They are not that much more talented, if at all.

The line in Atlanta was nothing special either but the guy is still alive and thriving. We easily could have drafted Ryan/Sam Baker (as the Falcons did) instead of Long/Henne. They had Turner, we had Brown. And coincidentally, the year White actually took off and became a bigtime WR was the same year Matt Ryan arrived. Gasp, maybe Ryan was actually doing just as much to make THEM better as they were helping him?

I love long, and Henne may still prove to a be a good choice, but anyone saying we made the right choice is drinking the coolaid. We have passed on franchise QBs since the Marino years and it's biting us in the *** repeatedly.

Parcells, Sparano, Pennington, and the 2008 Miami Dolphins reached deep into my chest and pulled out my love for Miami Dolphins football that I thought had died on the day the greatest football player of all time Dan Marino retired and the team was passed into the hands of complete incompetents.

So the Dolphins were 7-9 only two years after being 1-15. That is hell of an improvement.

Two years after being 3-13 in 2007, the Rams were 2-14 and 1-15 the following years.

The Raiders went 7 years between 2003 and 2009 without winning more than 5 games.

Only once in the last 11 years have the Buffalo Bills won more than 8 games.

The Lions have not had a winning season since 2000 or been to the playoffs since 1999, or won a playoff game since 1991.

The Redskins have won only 2 playoff games since 1992.

The 49ers have not had a winning season since 2002.

The Texans have never been to the playoffs in their 9 year history.

The Titans have won only 2 playoff games since they were a yard away from winning the Super Bowl in 1999.

The Cardinals have been to the playoffs only 6 times in the last 60 years and have not won a championship since 1947.

The problems I have with the team are the direction we are going in 2010, not what happened in 2008 to pull this franchise out of the crapper. I do not regret the 2008 draft, not in getting Pennington, not in getting Parcells or Ireland or Sparano.

It's easy to look at the Jets and the Falcons and see the improvements those franchises have made since 2007, and believe me it sucks really bad that my Miami Dolphins have seen all these other teams have their year in the sun when we haven't been the conference championship since 1992, but there are several franchises out there who envy our position.

By the way, as of today Matt Ryan and Chad Henne have won the same number of playoff games... ZERO!

OP, your posts in this thread are full of contradiction.

You say you can't understand how people are satisfied with 7-9 seasons. Yet you suggest not playing Pennington would have been better for us in the long run because, gasp, we'd have ended up around 7-9 potentially. Bigger picture applies here too, man.

You also suggest throwing Henne into the fire earlier than year 2 (and cite other teams that have done it, taking some lumps to spur the QB's development). I'm not going to say one way is better than the other, but the patience you'd show a QB in that situation is what's being denied to Henne in effectively his first year starting this year. Should he be better than rook with no bench time? Yep, and I believe he is.

Not going to comment on Jake Long vs Ryan, as others have already laid it out.

Would Ryan have posted a better record to this point than Sparano? Maybe, but I sure don't want him as our coach. I'd be embarrassed after every single press conference, regardless of a win/loss.

Rams, Falcons, and Bucs spent first rounders (two of them very high) on their QB. We got ours with a 2nd and a top LT to boot. Henne may not be the guy, but he's far from a horrid quarterback.

We have yet to finish the season so I don't see how "two straight years with 7-9" comes into the argument.

I'm far from thinking this season is a success, especially at this point, but I don't think we're as bad off as you're making it seem.

I can't tell you with a straight face that Matt Ryan is a franchise quarterback.

At times he has looked as inaccurate as Henne does on his occassions.

Matt Ryan is a popular name right now because the Falcons have the best record in the NFC, and last week Ryan and the Falcon offense did have an epic comeback against the Ravens. However... the Falcons have had a LOT of balls bounce their way to reach 7 wins. Their defense is playing well and forcing a lot of turnovers, at least 1 in every game this year. There are a lot more factors to the Falcons' success than drafting Matt Ryan. By the way the win vs Baltimore was the first game this year Ryan threw for 300 yards.

He is solid, and has had more success than Henne, but for crying out loud it's not like we picked Ryan Leaf instead of Peyton Manning.

 

He's torched enough top defenses for me to think he could be the team's QB of the future. He's playing far too afraid right now and that comes heavily from Sparano.

 

I don't think they are. They take their shots, but it's also possible that these over-anal coaches ****ed him up royally in off-season. Henne last year without Marshall was much more aggressive. The performance was no worse than this version. Against Tenn he got picked off, big deal. It was a 45 yard punt.

The worst thing they did was never finding a consistent OL constantly mutilating the damn line, allowing it to heal, then mutilating it again. Here's an idea. Sign Ryan Kalil, move Carey to guard, draft Carimi and that's it. Anytime Sparano tries to make a change ***** slap him or electrocute him. Well what if we put McQuistan here...
