Jake Long said he was looking forward to playing against Chris Long this weekend.
"Yeah, absolutely," Jake Long said. "Chris and I are good friends, and he's having a good year and he's a great player.
"Plays tough, he's a strong guy, he's quick. I'm really excited to play against him."
Had the Dolphins not taken Jake Long with the No. 1 overall pick in April, the Rams would have snatched him with the second selection.
"He is a powerful guy and very athletic," Rams coach Jim Haslett said of Jake Long. "He does not give up a lot of sacks and knocks people off the line of scrimmage. He is a good football player."
-Jake Long, Chris Long and Vernon Gholston, a former Ohio State player who was taken with the seventh overall pick by the New York Jets, all had dinner together during their predraft visit with the Rams.
"Me and Chris knew (each other) a bunch through All-American banquets and stuff like that, so we got close through that," Jake Long said. "Me and Vernon were training together before the draft. So it was a pretty casual, fun dinner with those two."
Jake Long said he hasn't pondered the possibility that he could be playing for the Rams instead of the Dolphins.
"I signed so early, but I did know anything could happen," Jake Long said. "And I ended up here, and I'm real glad with the situation I'm in and where I ended up."
