While I'd love a good pick up at WR during the draft, I'd also rather address our defense with the draft as it's less of a chance pick. I mean look how strong of a WR pick Ginn was. And we'd have to draft pretty high for any of those guys more than likely.

But if somehow one of them falls to a reasonable point, it's cool to get an early look at them. Thanks for the video posts

Dez White or bust, and we're going to have to play like we did yesterday for the remaining 5 games to have a shot at him.

Going to have to trade for a receiver.

We used a 3rd and 4th rounder last year on WRs. We doubled up, albeit it fairly low.

Does anyone see us using a high pick on a WR next year? Our first year we drafted multiple RBs, OL, DEs, and one QB. Second year we drafted multiple DBs, WRs, up top (and Pat White). Later on we drafted a tight end, a safety and an OL.

Notice OLB and ILB are missing from the drafts. As a 3 year plan do you see us skipping OLB and ILB at the top of the draft this year? Its possible I guess. If at all, I see it in the 2nd round or later.

You make a good point. Will they stick to the trifecta's plan, whatever that plan was originally? Or will they digress from it to pick up a top WR?

Something tells me that there is a big difference between what the fans want, and what the FO is going to get.

I guess we will have to wait (what will feel like 10 years) till the draft finally arrives.

He's listed at 6'3 200 pounds ... I'm guessing he's probably closer to 6'2 from seeing him in person and on film.

Briscoe is coming off a monster game against Mizzou last weekend. Something ridiculous like 250 yards receiving.

I think that's evident in how up-and-down he's been this year for Kansas. Kerry Meier has been the most reliable receiver on that team.

Here's a good article on the pair.

Bryant doesn't look like he runs clean routes, do we really need more WR's like that. I mean, we already have a sloppy burner in Ginn, why take a sloppy no 1 also?

I think Henne is accurate enough that if most of his recievers were clean route runners we'd be set.

For some reason i liked the guy from LSU, but his QB sucks. He seemed to be open on most plays and his QB couldnt get him the ball. I wonder how far he could slip where we take him. 2nd round maybe?

Nice find, man. The following is what he's done this year as well.

Watch him against Kansas State and then watch him against Texas. Two different football players.

I know this sounds ridiculously obvious, but I would rather have an Anquan Boldin than a Desean Jackson.

I like big bodied WR's that can get open and go up and get the ball, no matter what part of the field it is, whether its a crossing route over the middle, a fade route jump ball in the end zone, or a go route down the sidelines.

The problem is there aren't many Boldins, Marshalls, Moss', and Fitzgeralds that come along to often.

AJ Green is better this year, I thought Julio was better last year. I'd take AJ over Julio this year though.

Jonathen Baldwin might end up being better than both.

Bryant has his days. He will turn off his motor and pout about not getting the ball. He's still quality IMO.

In my opinion, LSU's Brandon LaFell needs some work. He's got inconsistent hands and he doesn't always seem to go his hardest. On Saturday, there was a ball thrown by Jordan Jefferson on an in route IIRC and LaFell didn't work for it, it ended up as an incompletion.

I agree on AJ Green though. Julio seems to get off slow starts or is it just me?

I think we might get a good WR in the 3rd or 4th round. Some of the ones I'm looking at are. I wouldnt spend a 1st or a 2nd on a receiver unless it was dez bryant and even then i would take a LB over him. These guys all bring good qualities and should at least improve and upgrade us though how much is questionable

    Eric Decker 3rd
    Jordan Shipley 3rd
    Jacoby Ford 3rd
    Dexter McCluster 3rd
    Demaryius Thomas 3rd
    Danario Alexander 4th
    Mike Williams 4th
    Rich Gunnell 6th
    Chris McGaha 6th

So what happens with Patrick Turner? Considering we still haven't seen him take an offensive snap, I imagine we keep him and work with him, to see if he develops into a playable WR.

Maybe we will see him before the season is over.

supposedly his problem is the same as most rooks - seperation. it usually takes a year to learn to run routes and beat jams. hopefully next year he can contribute though I would like to see him get some playing time. Supposedly he's making some incredible catches in practice according to Crowder

Alright going to throw this out there since I see a Aj Green Julio Jones love fest.

    Player A
    Receptions 47 Yards 751 Touchdowns 6

    Player B
    Receptions 52 Yards 727 Touchdowns 7

    Player C
    Receptions 40 Yards 545 Touchdowns 4

    Results
    Player A=A.J. Green
    Player B=DeVier Posey
    Player C=Julio Jones

Honestly don't see why player B doesn't get any love.

If that's true, I'd just as soon pass on him. We don't need a prima donna that pouts when things don't go his way.

    Good question.

I sure as hell hope so.

Or, Vincent Jackson. I've heard his name dropped one several occasions on this board (as a potential FA this upcoming off season). If so, I think I might prefer him over Boldin. Maybe.

well, being a syracuse fan i could tell you a lot about mike williams but to some it up.....

the guy has good size, excellent breakaway speed, knack for finding the endzone, especially on an awful team. unfortunately he is a bum, always gets in trouble, and a quitter.

One huge difference, though, is Bryant seems to have a knack for finding a way to get in good position to catch a ball. He goes up, around, under, whatever, to make the great catch. Henne could really use a guy like that too, who absolutely refused to let the ball hit the ground.

Well he had a one game suspension early in the year and then about two weeks after that he had a run in with the law that was fairly minor. However, as soon as he heard that another one game suspension would have to be served due to this run in, he just quit and wouldnt even play the last 4 games. To not even stick it out and try and boost your stats for the draft is beyond belief to me and shows that the guy is very unreliable. He's got talents though. He would have broken every syracuse recieving record had he just played the last four games. Ik he is right up there with art monk and marvin harrison in the record books though and thats after 2 1/2 seasons of play.

I would love a sexy WR though. Haven't had a real good flashy one since Dan's days. We've had some good solid ones since (OJ and Gadsen in particular) but where is our Fitzy, Moss, hell I'd take a Lee Evans with solid QB play.

I just hope we didn't blow our load already with WRs last year. Or, alternatively, have Turner develop into a solid WR, with Hartline improving, and either Cam or Bess staying consistent. I mean, imagine if Turner can be a partial Vincent jackson or something (hey, a guy can dream). his hands are solid. His problem is sloppy routes. It took VJ 4 years to develop. I hope Turner does it in his 2nd year :D

Turner definitely has the height. If he can develop his route running which is what his problem is I believe? I can definitely see him as a receiver that can do it all, including going over the middle.

This really implies things that aren't true. He didn't have a "run in with the law that was fairly minor". That implies that there was "fairly minor" legal wrongdoing on his part. There wasn't. He was in a car with other teammates at an hour that team rules forbade them to be out at, allegedly coming back from a casino that team rules forbade them from going to, and the car was rear-ended by a tractor trailer. There was no alcohol involved, or drugs, or any LEGAL wrongdoing on the part of the players in the car. But the fact of the matter is the police had to come and make a report and it would have been only a matter of time before the coaches found out about it.

Not only had Williams been academically suspended for a football season (fall semester) for cheating on a test, but as you say he served a one-game suspension early in the year for another incident.

According to the campus sources, within hours of the car accident, Williams was in Doug Marrone's office and Marrone hadn't even heard about the accident yet. That's when he informed Marrone of his intention to quit rather than face the suspension that was coming. There has been no source saying it would have just been another one-game suspension, as far as I know (tho I could be wrong). We have no idea what the two men said to each other in that room and we have no idea what was said between the two before that.

My guess is Marrone was ready to throw the book at him and suspend him the rest of the season. Williams probably made a rash decision to, instead of face the suspension, quit the program (ie. "you can't fire me, I quit!"). There are reports that the very next day Williams was back in Marrone's office begging to come back to the team and take back his quitting the team but that Marrone wouldn't allow it. I'm going to go ahead and guess that Williams made a hot headed and stupid decision to quit the team rather than face the suspension, and sometime later that day someone with good knowledge of these things told him that it would have looked a HECK of a lot better to NFL teams if he hadn't quit and had just faced his suspension and then headed into the draft...because the act of quitting itself carries with it a stigma, even if the net effect is the same.

The truth is if I were Doug Marrone and Williams came to me in that office I would have informed him of what suspension would be coming and refused to accept his quitting from the team for 24 hours. These kids are still, above all, kids, and this was within HOURS of the incident that he knew would probably end his tenure at Syracuse which is a school he loved. No matter what he said to me I would have prevailed upon him to approach the decision with a cool head.

But that's me, that's not Doug Marrone.

Either way the whole thing looks bad and horribly immature for Mike Williams. What looked especially bad IMO is while nearing the end of his academic suspension for cheating, in an interview he still tried to deny he cheated. He explained that you were allowed to study your books before class right up until the test, and that is what he was doing, and "it just so happened" that the exact notes he was studying were the answers to what would be on the test. Right, Mike. Right.

Of immediate issue would be his probable lack of respect for authority, his willingness to cheat the system, his willingness to make drastic decisions with a hot head, and his social night life. Those are the reasons the Cincinnati Bengals can have him. That place is like a halfway house. Maybe we can take a (hopefully reformed) Chris Henry off their hands and they can pick up their newest inmate Mike Williams via the draft.
