I won't lie, when Section brought up the potential for firing Ireland after he acquired a bunch of picks and cap space, it sounded so nice. Unless we're willing to eat a lot of guaranteed money, we're very hamstrung already. Sent from my GT-P3110 using Tapatalk
I hear you. But there are talents potentially available that may make sense regardless of who is steering the ship. Josh Gordon could be one such talent. They paid Mike Wallace $60 million to under perform relative to a man they paid less than $10 million.
Nicks for a third round pick? I'd be down with that instantly...I'd give up a 2nd for Josh Gordon too, Browns would be fools to move him though.
That was then. But now...there are talents to be had, and if Ireland can grab one, you let him do it. Ireland's "results" can change. I'm not a hard *** about this, but my leash is short. But Josh Gordon, or Fitzgerald in some type of Wallace swap....or a guy that I am really interested in hearing about....Hakeem Nicks. If we can get Nicks for a 3rd Rounder...you do it..
They want to offload Britt for next to nothing, but they've got a good reason for that. He's toxic trash there now. There's a reason for that too. He's not the Nicks of old. Think the Jake Long of WRs.
I watch Nicks every week. He is fine. Eli Manning has been trash. Has missed him 4 times. FOUR times in the end zone. Wide Open this year.
I'm not saying that he's not an improvement on what we have (especially with Gibson out), I'm just saying he's a long way from his heyday. Even then, the issue is Wallace being a 60 mil albatross combined with atrocious line play. Nicks doesn't fix either of those issues.
I tend to agree. I'd rather the offense hunker down a bit and make more use of the TEs and put Ryan under center
The safer option would probably be Hakeem Nicks. He doesn't have a one year suspension hanging over his head. Third round picks are commonly overrated. Look at the history of the round. Let's take the 2010 Draft for an example since there's been enough time to really see what each player is from that Draft. Sure, you've got guys like Jared Veldheer, Jimmy Graham and NaVorro Bowman in the third round. If you missed out on one of those guys for a veteran player that just didn't end up doing all that well for you, that would suck. But let's be honest, that's 10% of the round. There are some other guys who have been solid, like Eric Decker, Major Wright, Morgan Burnett and Jon Asamoah. I guess if the veteran you acquire doesn't perform all the well, you might kinda sorta regret that those guys could've been on your team but aren't. Yet, it's a marginal regret. It's not a "oh my god, what did I do" regret. It's not a Veldheer, Graham or Bowman regret. Then you've got some guys like John Jerry, Corey Peters, Earl Mitchell, Amari Spievey, Ed Dickson, Brandon LaFell, Donald Butler, Daniel Te'o-Nesheim, Emmanuel Sanders, Andre Roberts, Shawn Lauvao and Tony Moeaki. Honestly, you could take or leave any of these guys. None of these guys are why teams win football games. They just play, and not necessarily well. That's all you can say about them. But then you've got a whole gaggle of Jerome Murphy, Myron Lewis, Alex Carrington, D'Anthony Smith, Chad Jones, Damian Williams, J.D. Walton, Jordan Shipley, Colt McCoy, Armanti Edwards, Taylor Price, Kevin Thomas, Brandon Ghee, Rennie Curran and Mike Johnson. If you drafted any one of those guys, you've got virtually nothing to show for it. So basically when you trade a third round pick for a guy like a Hakeem Nicks, you've got a 10% chance of REALLY regretting it...maybe another 10% chance of maybe kinda sorta regretting it...and about an 80% chance of not ****ing regretting it at all whatsoever.
Now..THIS GUY is a loser. Britt...not lmeister.. I wouldn't take Kenny Britt for free. he can be a camp invite on my team...nothing more.
I've read that Nicks hasn't been able to get open multiple times on this board. I'm not seeing it. I'm always seeing him open. That's why his targets are so high.
With Nicks we can move Hartline to where he belongs... the slot. I don't think Ireland has the balls to do it though.
I'd still rather wait till after the season to go after him, if at all. I don't think he's going to cut Miami hometown discounts to retain him in free agency after a 8 game rental. We've already got significant resources invested in the WRs, and somethings gonna have to give there first before you can pick up Nicks (not counting drafting a guy that can be that good).
He has had one bad game. The Minnesota game...where he dropped two balls. Even then, Eli over threw him when he was wide open in the end zone on the first drive of the game.
The reason why Gibson and Tanny worked so good was because Gibson the got the **** up for the ball like a man, unlike Wallace and sometimes Hartline. Nicks would bring a similar physicality imo
Hakeem Nicks for a third round pick is a "good value, don't over-think it" thing. I don't know if there's ANY truth whatsoever to the rumors he's available for that third round pick though.
Well, Garner has certainly proven himself worthless this year. McKinnie isn't a long term option at all. None of the other tackles can get a shot. Nixon might be worth a look.
So work out a contract with him. It shouldn't be that hard. You can always terminate the contract. There's too much of a gun-shy attitude about these things sometimes, IMO. There are certain prospects (such as paying a guy $60 million) that you need to be really, really wary of...but when you're talking about figures that are half that or less, take some chances.
Nicks fills an obvious need with Gibson out for the year. Compensation (for a third rounder) if true seems very reasonable. Timing could be about as good as it gets.
sorry to disappoint guys but the Giants aren't trading Nicks when they are just two games out of first place in the woeful NFC East. He's 25 years old. He's going to be a free agent next season. But the Giants have rolled the dice on receivers before, namely Cruz. The two guys at receiver who could be moved are Gordon and Blackmon and I'm not sure the Dolphins would risk either one. More likely is getting Chad Bumphis off Denver's PS. He knows the offense here and wouldn't cost a thing.
So Tony Gonzalez is now open to a trade out of Atlanta. He wants to play for a contender though, so that's us out of the equation. I bet the Patriots, Chiefs, Ravens, Seahawks inquire.
Ian Rapoport @RapSheet 6m For the #Eagles and Vinny Curry, they've taken calls, not made them. Organization sees his talent. We'll see if they get an offer big enough I wouldn't mind adding to our pass rushing unit. Better than seeing Koa Misi lineup at end like he did on the Pats last touchdown drive.
Does anyone else find it completely strange that Paul Soliai had an awful game (his worst of the season by far) on Sunday a couple of days before the trade deadline in a contract year?
with our oline why not bring in another tight end and bring back Chris Chambers and just keep our draft picks for next year and just add a olineman that is serviceable for the time being. our tightends haven't wow anyone and putting 2 tghtends on the line to help block might be a band aid solution until we can get through the season.
That to me would be the most likely move, although the coaching staff didn't seem as enamoured of Bumphis as the fans were. I'd love a trade for Gordon, high risk but high gain, but I just can't see it happening, especially for the 2nd that the Browns are said to want.
