In an 18 team league I got offered Dunn, Damon and Garrett Atkins for Longoria and Cody Ross. I need a centerfielder and a left fielder which Dunn and Damon fill but I would be taking back two lesser players and a maybe for Longoria who is a certainty at 3B. Historically Atkins has been a reliable player but with rumors swirling that he may be moved and his home/road splits being what they have always been (tilted towards his home field heavily) Im just not sure what to do with this one. So I guess the question is what do you guys think Atkins will do the rest of the year?
Atkins isnt even hitting at Coors so far this season. He's been slowing down for a bit now, so it's possible he just isnt the reliable player he once was. I wouldnt want him on my team. But I dont know how desperate you are for OF help.
I need a CF and a RF pretty bad. Currently Im using Cody Ross and Randy Winn there but Id prefer to be able to shuffle them as my utility. In this league because its 18 quality managers depth usually wins out. But Longoria and A Gone are by far my best assets while Delgado and Hafner are hurt and I really dont want to put too much stock in what those guys will do when they return. Im trying to figure out if atkins is a good enough gamble to legitimize me taking the risk. I know Dunn is a BA black hole but in the format we use (9x9) he's been a huge asset in past years. While hes not my favorite player hes very good at what he does.
In a deep league like that I think you have to make that move. Dunn and Damon are solid players and although aren't stud like Longoria, Dunn will put up the same power numbers if not better and Damon playing in the new Yankee Stadium might hit 30 home runs and steal 25 bases. I'd do that deal and just hope Atkins turns it around.
Ive never played that deep of a league but I would think you would need the most depth possible. If you can upgrade two positions while taking a hit on only one I would think you'd have to do it. As much as I dislike Atkins you would have to hope he turns it around in that ballpark.
I have Atkins riding the bench because I just can't cut a fellow alum. He's been a guy of halves. Usually if one half is subpar, the other turns out well. Dunn's power is still there and surprisingly hitting it more often. Yankee Stadium is just nuts when it comes to HR's so Damon's got the goods in that lineup. Still too risky to say about Atkins though he has had a hit in most of his recent games so could be a sign of a turnaround. You may need the depth more and if Atkins continues to struggle, I'm sure there's a FA guy who's better than him now.
