Thoughts?
Could he displace the other projects like Roberts and Smythe to let us run 2 TE set?

It's a conditional 7th. If Shaheen misses the final 53, no picks exchange hands. Since Shaheen is a former 2nd round pick, this trade is all upside for the Dolphins.

He never had a chance to develop with Trubisky being his qb.. lets see what he can do

Did he start/play at all in Chicago? Seems like a pretty random trade if there's a conditional 6th involved (which becomes nothing if he doesn't make the final roster). It sounds like Chicago was ready to cut him...that's the only way they could possibly see upside from this.
Miami doesn't lose anything though since they get to "try-out" the kid for free with no pressure of keeping him.
It's a horrible position for the player because let's say he's in our top-55 and the front office has to choose between 3 or 4 guys to finalize the roster. Someone's inevitably going to say, "Well, we have to pay a 6th if we keep him...so is he really better than <someone else> AND a 6th rounder?" The kid would really have to impress in order to make this team.
Edit- Last year he was active for 8 games and caught 9 receptions for 74 yards (8.2 average). So the kid has 9 total catches in his career so far.
Here's a pretty cool story about him too- https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2702010-adam-shaheen-the-nfl-drafts-most-mysterious-manLast edited: Jul 26, 2020 -
Thought we had enough TE's. Oh well nothing ventured nothing gained.

*Ding, ding, ding* - You hit the nail on the head. I think that Shaheen is a pretty good player, but he's always hurt.
In general terms, I think that this is going to be a tough roster to crack. For one, based on what we gave up in terms of compensation and the fact that Covid could hit at any time, I think Rosen will take one of those "up for grabs jobs."
In my mind, Shaheen will be competing with the likes of Ford, Gary Jennings, Smythe, Cox, Ballage, Perry, and Laird for the last couple roster spots. It seems like a guy like Ford is always right on that bubble of making the team or going to the practice squad. I think that you are absolutely right in the regard that our final option could be Ford AND we keep a 6 or Shaheen.
I also feel like Mike Gesicki really turned the quarter the final half of the year, and I think that he has a lot of potential to be a breakout player this season. So now we are also giving up 6th for a guy that we all know will have a limited role.
I do think that the subtext of this trade is that the Dolphins may be souring on Smythe. Call it a hunch, but I think that Smythe winds up getting one more year to prove himself.KeyFin likes this. -

I love, love, love having Fitzmagic on our squad. How long does he plan on staying though? I really do think that Fitz is a bottom tier starter in the league still. At best, he would take a premium backup salary. At worst, some other team might want him as they draft and groom a young QB. I would assume that would come with a nice salary and the ability to start at least some game.
In a perfect world, Rosen would look good enough to be the #2 guy in the 2021 season. We would have him a quite favorable salary, and we would still have a ton of upside in player development. The Chargers essentially gave up on Drew Brees when they drafted Phillip Rivers. I cannot think of a guy who has had a worse draw than Rosen. I think a year or two on the bench could almost be like a restart button.
I also think that it really does make sense for Rosen to make the team this year. With Covid, I think that you could see a team show up on game day and find out its starting QB or backup has tested positive. If a team is only carrying two QBs, seriously, what happens?
I almost think the NFL should step in and do something to avoid a crazy situation like this. It could be an additional roster spot exclusively for QBs, unemployed QBs in various cities essentially on stand by.KeyFin likes this. -
I love Fitz as well and I'm really hoping he has a great year (if we have a season). I am excited to see Tua, but if Fitzpatrick is playing well then I'm in no rush to see those reigns passed. I agree with you on Rosen as well, there's no incentive to move him and I think he's "good enough" to be the QB2 this season and beyond. The important part to remember, however, is that he still has QB1 potential and it's a massive win if he eventually gets there.tirty8 likes this. -
Rosen won't be traded until next year. I'd be interested to see if he's going to embrace the back-up role for the rest of his career or if he'll try to break out and start somewhere after his rookie contract is up.
His development bears watching because it will determine his draft compensation in a trade. We should all be rooting for him. -
I personally dont care if Tua or Rosen are the future.
Both in my opinion have serious questions and I dont believe draft status alone should determine who gets more opportunity.
If Tua beats Rosen he should be ahead on the depth chart.
If Rosen beats Tua, he should be ahead.
To me it's simple as that.KeyFin likes this. -
The bigger thing here is that we have two studs with chances of developing into a solid QB for the future. I'd love if it's Tua. I'd love if it's Rosen. It really is that simple.AGuyNamedAlex likes this. -
::starts thread about trading for backup TE::

i tried! -
Rosengate??

Don't say you tried when you contributed nothing else to the conversation- the act of "trying" is to actually try. -
Personally I tend to focus more on what I'm not sure a player can do versus what I know they can, because those are the areas I want to see improvement in for either one to become a franchise QB. Not to say what I perceive is necessarily right, I'm human.
Unless what you can do is so overwhelming amazing it covers up your perceived flaws once you hit the field. Then I care less about what you allegedly cant do.KeyFin likes this.
