Well, Vince Young will be on the trade block right after a new CBA is signed as his contract does not call for his 4.25 million dollar bonus to be paid for 10 days after the new NFL "year" begins after the installation of a new labor agreement.
His salary, with bonus, is 11 million dollars, he is a 2 time pro bowl player who compares somewhat to a young Steve McNair, the Titans are expected to have problems trading him due to his erratic behavior including disappearing, throwing his jersey and pads into the stands and refusing to take part in scheduled rehabilitation assignments.
I'd peg his value at a 5th rd pick.
Should Ireland make a trade for him? Why or why not?
Trade for Vince Young?

Why trade for him when he'll be released ? C'mon Pads.
Besides he is a head case, so personally I don't want him anywhere near our team. Just think of Belicheat getting into his head twice a year, and Rex Ryan too. No I think we should pass.NaboCane, MonstBlitz and GMJohnson like this. -

I don't want him for any price. He's a cancer and a quitter, total head case. Not to mention that he won't ever win anything in the NFL. I'd much rather play Henne than Young.

What this team desperately needs is a strong leader. Vince Young deserted his football team. That is not leadership. That is a quitter.
JMHO... -
I'd also ask people to recall what was being said about Michael Vick returning to the NFL two yrs ago..and how that turned out for Philly. -

It was either/or with the Titans situation .Either Vince Young or Fisher had to go .Now it seems both are on the outs.
Perhaps the Titans owner decides to keep Young. -
He would be worth a look but he is too expensive to trade for, he will be a free agent 100% guaranteed.

Vince Young sucks as a QB, we don't need him.........
Mike Vick is just a POS of a person, don't need him -
for me, that is the key to the whole thing, he was not indifferent to playing, in fact his biggest blowups where when he was benched, which is the opposite of Henne who reportedly shed tears when Penny was named the starter..I'd prefer the fire reaction to the whine reaction.phinfan84 likes this. -
You'd be silly not to trade a 5th for VY, that's a very low risk - high reward type of deal. I think the price might be a 4th and change, which doesn't change my opinion.
That said, I think VY is due a big roster bonus soon, and will likely be cut. The only way you make that trade is if you think he might not otherwise choose to come to Miami. And since we will offer him practically every opportunity to start and don't collect income tax, I don't see why we wouldn't be a naturally attractive option.
Greg McElroy, for what it is worth, has got to be high on Ireland's radar. He fits the criteria: lots of starts in a big program, excellent accuracy, low turnovers, good size. Doesn't have the big arm, but neither did Penny. So I'd expect he comes through the draft as well. -
The deal is poco, 10 days AFTER the new CBA is signed Young is due 4.25 million in a bonus, so there is a window if we wished to trade for him, to me it is a no brainer as we pick up talent at a need position and we preserve the #15 overall while so doing.
A #5 pick, or even a #4 is still dirt cheap, Nolan Carroll for a starting Qb, you'd be crazy not to make the deal. -
If the Titan's will give us a 3rd and Vince for a bag of footballs with a few extra endzone pylons, sure. Lets do it. Otherwise, no thanks.
-
you can make the case that we traded a 5th for Thigpen, and even though he's nothing more than a backup, it wasn't a bad deal. At least Thigpen had potential to take it to the next level. Young has a big enough body of work, we know what we're getting. An extremely mediocre QB that hasn't very thin skin and has already piled up some injuries from being a run-first QB.
I don't like the idea of drafting Cam Newton, but if we're going to go with a running QB, I'd rather draft a young Cam Newton, with fresh legs, and at least some potential, than waste a 4th round pick on Vince Young. If you're going to waste a roster spot on VY, wait until after CBA is put in place, bring him in as a free agent and let him compete. He's a vet, and if he's worth a damn, he'd win a roster spot. -

Young and Palmer both have 11 million dollar cap numbers for next season, any "objective" analysis needs to take that into account. Would you rather have Young, or would you use that $ for Marcedes Lewis and Braylon Edwards? Or use it for Brad Smith and Deangelo Williams? Or use it to resign Soliai and extend Wake? Or use it for Johnathan Joseph and Michael Bush. I can think of a million wiser ways to use that cap space than on Vince friggin Young. The Titans selected him #2, built the franchise around him, got him an all world RB that could force teams into man coverage, got him WRs and a decent TE, and the Titans are now willing to give him up to anyone willing to take him. Objectively, why is that?
Keep in mind, Young has a very unique skill (lackthereof) skill set. You'd have to design a scheme especially for his strengths, AND a scheme for Henne. You'd need weekly game plans for both. Who would you devote the lion share of the reps and development time too? They both need it. Its hard enough trying to groom one QB, no we're trying to groom two?Trowa, brandon27 and Ohio Fanatic like this. -

Randy Moss and Mike Vick were bigger nutcases, and worked out very well for their teams. The beauty of a low risk type investment is that you're not forced to keep him if he becomes trouble. You just shrug your shoulders and move on.
Gimme a Vince Young opening up what should be an admittedly simple and watered-down offense over a million Henne checkdowns. I think you'd want to pair Young with a pretty good receiving tight end though, he seems to look that way a bit.padre31 likes this. -

THE PARROT HAS CEASED TO BE!!!!!
Anywho, if Henne is the guy with the bright future then why worry about bringing in Young, shouldn't Henne beat him out easily for the starting Qb job?texanphinatic likes this. -
Does he have the skilz to be a deep threat Wr? Because he sure the heck does not know how to be a consistant NFL Qb.
-
No to Vince Young. Pass. Let the Vikings get him. Eliminates need at quarterback on a team drafting ahead of us.
-
And I'm not worried about Young beating Henne out. As I said before, its about opportunity cost. Young costs 11 million, and he'd require an intense amount of training and development, something he's been loathe to subject himself to throughout his career. But it's not really about Young, it's about Henne, how bad he "sucks" and how bad you want him replaced. You're certainly entitled to your opinion. We'll see what happens. -
-
Pads, where are you getting your information that Vince Young will be traded? Everything I read said it would be either Fisher or Young, now with Fisher gone I assumed Bud Adams would be keeping Young. Unless you've read something I haven't I'm considering the whole Young scenario null and void.

Yeah, we need a QB who contemplated suicide.
STOP SETTLING FOR MEDIOCRE, PEOPLE!
Get me a legit quarterback, dammit.
