Honestly not against it at all. I think we could get something in return for him possibly a late 2nd high third if he's healthy. Were not going to win with him were not 1-2 players away from a title. Lets get some value from him and not be the old dolphins. Be the new Englands, Pittsburg and get something of value for him.

I love wake, but if we could get salary relief and a player for the next 7-8 years at a position of need in the draft I would do that.

 

There are several playoff bound teams who would love to have a designated pass rusher like Wake .Next year we probably wont have that luxury. There was a similar situation with another beloved Dolphin DL Jason Taylor .

The theory is to trade an aging player while they still have value .

And we have loaded up on DL with rumors of having interest in several of them in the draft too.

In summary I dont want it to happen but I will understand if it does happen.:yes:

Here is the thing people fail to consider when trading proven players for picks. Who is gonna be making the pick? Mike Tannenbaum.

Simply ask yourself, "Would you rather have Cameron Wake or someone Mike Tannenbaum takes in the 2nd round?"

The question seems to answer itself.

 

I think it would be unlikely to get anything above a 4th rounder, a 5th or higher and I'd take it, we all have to understand, his career, as we know him anyway, may already be over, that is a more than likely a possibility, a probability even, 34 coming off a ruptured achilles.

 

Wouldn't trade him. If anybody is going to return healthy and ready to prove everyone wrong, it's him. Also, why get extra picks for THIS draft? This draft is a weak one.

You are all higher than Snoop Dogg if you think Cameron Wake is netting a 2nd rounder. A 4th rounder is your best case scenario for compensation. With that salary, his age and injury history...even a 4th would be pushing it, especially this year where no one knows how ready, if at all, he will be. You may be able to shake a 2017 draft pick out at the deadline to trade him to a contender, assuming that A: we are awful enough to already know we aren't going anywhere and B: He has shown enough individually, at that point, to prove his injury is behind him and can contribute positively to a contender somewhere.

In other words, that is a lot of stars to align.

 

I was in favor of trading him last year, and at the start of last season, I was in favor of moving him this spring. However, with his injury, I'm not sure that we would get anything close to what we should in value. A 3rd rounder would be hopeful, IMO.

 

Coming off a serious injury at his age he just doesn't have a lot of value. I wouldn't dump him for a 5th-6th rounder so our best bet is to keep him for a couple of seasons and hope we can get good production out of him. He's been one of my favorite players since we picked him up so if he stays and retires a Dolphin its all good anyway.

No one is going to trade anything meaningful for a 34 y.o.coming off an ACL injury.

I think we're much better off using him like Trace Armstrong.Keep him fresh and let him feast against players who have gotten used to someone else's pass rush moves.

I hardly ever post remarks like this, but; this is the most stupidity in one short thread I have ever seen.

You might use him in a trade up move with a super bowl contender but that would be about it. For example our 4th round pick and Wake for the Panthers 3rd.....but he is way more valuable to us this year.

 

I agree. These kind of threads also ignore the intangible benefits someone like Wake brings to the Club: like leadership, experience, example, etc

Would just be nice if we had some good young DEs on the roster who could benefit from that!

 

Keeping him costs 9.8 mil, a release or trade would save 8.4 mil, the Fins are trying to get a pay cut from him, and if he doesn't look like he's close to what he was, they will release him, so if you can get a 5th round pick I would do that.

 

Last year was the time to get a trade. We'd just be doing Cam a favor at this point.

He is still under contract for a year. No extension signed yet. The dolphins have stated they have no intention on letting him leave Miami and would like to see him retire a fin, but we will see how it goes.

 

Man..I'm completely bias here to the point where I'm naming my first kid after him, lol, but this kind of stuff is a headscratcher to me. People are okay with taking a 5th or later for Wake? Idk man, being any other player I could see it, but Wake is different. Not sure why anyone would think this team is going to benefit more from a late round pick than keeping someone like Wake around for what'll probably be his last few years in the NFL. I definitely trust Wake and his steep price tag and pass rushing ability more than I do this front office with ANY late round picks. I just personally don't see him declining like your average NFL player would do after an injury like this.... he is a completely different breed. Aside from the fact that the dude is quite literally the quintessential pro who dedicates his life to his craft arguably more than anyone else in the league, he is our ONLY real locker room leader and the face of the franchise for damn near a decade now. I agree there has to be some kind of a paycut... but it NEEDS to be in the form of an extension with some incentives and milestones sprinkled in. Obviously he has to be fair about it too, But don't just give the guy up for peanuts, that would be sickening.

Let him be a pass rushing specialist and continue to dominate until he is 100% done. He deserves to retire here, and the phins have already stated they want him to retire here..... I really hope both sides play ball with this contract because letting him leave is just a mistake on multiple levels, imo. Sure it's expensive, but he's earned it.

 

At this point it wouldn't be worth a trade, I think with Mario, suh and jones, wake will see less and less double teams as well as less snaps, and he is 34 on a 30 yr old frame only being in the league 7 yrs, with 2 years non playing and 2 in the cfl which is by far not even remotely to nfl type contact, I think he can easily come back from the Achilles, merely my opinion look at Derrick rose and Kobe Bryant both with Achilles and both returned to high level of competition. I know the nba and nfl is a lot different but if your going to trade him the best bet is to see the first part of the season out then decide. especially with this weak draft. its worth a shot. If all three mario suh and wake can play at a high level watch out Brady.

 

I have to make a correction here, Rose never tore his achilles, and Kobe's game dropped off significantly since his achilles.

 

I would not trade him..Im willing to risk that I still have lots of production from this dream specimen of a man...you dont trade your best pass rusher, especially when you let go of your other one.

I wonder, if the Cowboys are able to draft Jalen Ramsey, if they might be willing to part with Mo Claiborne and Ron Leary for Wake?

They are going to need a pass rush...it would give us two players at positions of need, and save us appx 3 million in cap space.

I don't know how long it will take Wake to get back to form...the Boys are missing their top two pass rushers for 4 games. But in week 5, or 6 or 7, if they have Wake, and Gregory and Lawrence return, it should be decent pass rush.

They are in a position to have to win NOW. We are rebuilding anyway...just a thought.

Him retiring as a dolphin means more to me than a 4th or 5th rd pick. I realize that pick could end up being a guy like reshad jones, but it's far more likely it ends up being Jamil douglas, or Patrick turner, or aj edds.

I'd rather see one of the best players in our franchise history leave here on his terms.
