Trade with the Lions without using #5?

Most of us are at least resigned to picking a QB at or higher than #5. Whether that's Tua or Herbert or someone else, it's the most realistic scenario.

But I was reading a Detroit article about a trade with the Lions, one that DOESN'T involve 5. Instead, it was 18, 26 and likely 39.

This would allow us to snag our QB and a true blue chip at another position. Take your pick of the elite 4 OT, Derrick Brown and Isiah Simmons.

Personally, while I think it's a feasible idea, I'm not in love with it. While I doubt we use all 14 picks, giving up 3 high level picks for one is a high price to pay. I think I'd rather just stay put or maybe look at a trade with San Fran if a good tackle makes it that far and the price isn't crazy.

I'd do #18 and the first from Houston next year with #39. Or I'd also do #26 with our first next year and #39.

Not sure I'd do it if all the picks were this year.

I honestly don't think we'll go up in the draft...if anything, I think that we'll move back and pick up extra selections.

But at the same time, this is going to be a vary strange draft since teams had limited visits. I bet several projected top-20 names end up in the 2nd round.

I'd do it. I'd also consider keeping our current first round picks and trading our seconds this year and a third to SF who want to get out of 13 for more lower round picks.

We'd be fools to do it.

    Please no!

This would be a monumentally boneheaded move.

I saw an article over the weekend that had the Dolphins getting to #3 with the #39 and a fifth-rounder.

Honestly I feel the high price the Lions want isn't there. I don't see mystery teams pouncing on Tua or Herbert at 3, and I think the Chargers are good waiting it out.

It wouldn't surprise me to see them sit tight at 3 and take one of Okudah, Simmons or Brown.

And I've said it before, their GM (Bob Quinn) doesn't seem adept at drafting or trading.

Anyone heard any news/leaks/whispers/SWAGs about moving UP - as in to #1.
