We talk a lot about trading down to get more picks, which would be nice, but what if we were able to trade up and get two high first round picks?
I wonder if it would be possible to get a second pick in the Top 10 by trading our first pick in the 2nd round along with maybe Jason Taylor and another later round pickk ??
Picking up Chris Long and Gholston or Dorsey would really be incredible.

Too much money to be invested. I'd rather have two mid-1st rounders.
-
Yeah, but the chance to obtain two bonified superstars like Long and Dorsey would help solidify our D-Line for years to come. Basically we'd just be giving up JT, who is nearing the end anyway, and maybe a mid round pick.
Whether there's another team that would do that trade I don't know but the chance to move down 20-some spots and pick up JT along with another pick might appeal to someone. We'd of course be getting rid of JT's big salary also.
I would love it on our end. -
If it was that easy to trade up for 1st rounders, every team would be doing it. ;) -
if the Matt Ryan story is not a smokescreen, we could trade up to the middle of the first round
its not a totally crazy idea
our 2 2nd rounders are worth the 20th pick in the draft -
remember that ireland said he wants a minimal list on his boards. so is he gonna trade up for a guy he loves or stay pat for guys who might not be there
its gonna be a fun off-season -
The draft value chart isn't gospel, some GM's use it, some don't and some use it as a guide. Right now our 2 2nd rounders might get us into the high 20's, but the value chart won't stop a GM from asking for more. Trading up isn't worth it IMO.
Besides, trading period on draft day is almost impossible. There is so much that goes into it and so little time to actually get it done. -
thanks for pointing out our many holes, I hadn't noticed
the value chart isn't the gospel, by it is a good guideline -

I would love to see Miami move up in the round to get a LT/RT or a CB. That is of course if they took Long or Dorsey with the overall. I am pulling for Long.:ffic: -
I agree with you on the picks, but if Ireland is to be taken for his word the odds of us trading up are higher.
He would rather go 2 for 2 on day one over 1 for 3. it may not mean moving that many spots, perhaps we trade a 3rd/4th/'09 pick to move 3 or 4 spots.
you and I are on the other extreme, we think that there isn't a player that we couldn't use and that we just need to take the BPA when our turn comes -
Yes there are many holes on this team and we need as many players as we can get, but I'm not sure I go with BPA. What if BPA is a position we don't need? -
everybody is too hyped about CB's
we have many needs greater than CB, we need pass rushers, LB's and a TE in the worst way
if we took 2 linebackers on Day 1 I wouldn't be dismayed at all -
it would be a dream if this happened but its not a perfect world now is it?
-
-
our pass rush is non-existant, our run defense is leaky, our linebackers are plodding
Will Allen looks like a pro-bowler compared to the front 7
no corner ever born could shut-down anybody when we have no pass rush at all -
I think Parcell's draft philosophy is a little different from Mueller's and that other schmuck that used to work here. (Rick Speilman).
He is more concerned with getting the guy he has targeted than just going for value and amassing players. Remember what he said about his draft board being much smaller.
I think we could move around to get the players that he wants. We have enough picks to have some flexibility. I know one thing, we won't be hearing about anybodies 'families' on draft day, that is for sure... -
1) NT (Dorsey)
2a and 2b) TE and LB (not necessarily in that order Davis would be great if he was still there)
3) OG or OT
4-7) late round QB prospect (Matt Flynn looked good tonight for LSU), another LB or DL, WR, CB or another OL.
But this is all affected by who we can find in FA. -
The talent level in this draft is quite similar throughout. IMO, you can get basically the same value at #32 as you may get around #20 or so. And really, #32 and whatever low 2nd-rounder we get from San Diego isn't going to get us any further than #20-25, which isn't worthy of the risk, IMO.
As for trading down, we really need to move down 3-4 spots and pick up a third 2nd-rounder.
EDIT: Forgot about the CB need, but I am hoping to land one of the big free agents.Last edited: Jan 8, 2008 -

I'm not packaging JT just to move up when I can can get a solid pick for him anyway.
-
2nd rounders are a great value, when used right. As many players as we need, I would be suprised if we traded up, unless... we were also able to trade down and collect more picks.

And no, actually I don't want another Top 10 pick, I'd like two or three more.
I prefer quality over quantity though and I'd rather have two Top 10 picks rather than say one pick in each of the first few rounds. No pick is guaranteed to be a winner but you're much more likely to find a future superstar picking high in the draft than later.
