1. How long until Vinny Testaverde shows up in the Dolphins' camp?

No, no, no. Bill Parcells wouldn't dare try that one again, even if the Tuna does have his well-known affinity for trusting only veteran quarterbacks with the keys to his offense. Besides, the 44-year-old Testaverde announced his retirement this offseason, and everybody knows once a quarterback hangs 'em up, that's the end of the story. There's no going back. It's finished and done.

Well, most of the time, anyway. Unless you get the "itch'' to play again.

No, Miami's next starting quarterback will be the winner of the Josh McCown-John Beck-Chad Henne derby, and I still say Parcells' Dolphins will wind up going against his history and entrusting the No. 1 role to the rookie from Michigan. Henne has a track record of being a quick study, and his offseason work with the Dolphins leaves him well-positioned to lock down the job with a solid preseason showing.

I really wonder if these people pay attention to the camps. Henne's off-season work hasn't been better than Beck's. If the 1 interception in 21 practice sessions is true, I think the job is Becks. I think Beck will be the starter for us.

6. When will Jason Taylor stop dancing around the question and get back to football as a career?

Maybe it would help if the Dolphins moved their training camp to Hollywood (Fla.). Or held that team-wide dance competition that Don Shula was always reluctant to institute. Taylor couldn't be bothered with football this offseason, and that kind of bothered Miami's new head coach Tony Sparano, general manager Jeff Ireland and football czar Parcells.

Taylor is being non-committal about whether he'll come to camp, and he might have a Michael Strahan-like plan of approaching the season, showing up just before the regular-season paychecks start getting cut. Something tells me that's not going to go over real well with management, and this story has a ways to go before it plays itself out. Personally I like the Brett Favre-for-Taylor trade scenarios, because they're both short-term bets who are in it for themselves at this point of their careers. But Favre apparently wants to start for a contender who doesn't play in warm weather, and that kind of leaves Miami out, doesn't it?

I hope this doesn't linger over into the regular season. We don't need distractions.
