Hindsight is always great, but yeah I was big on Smith last season, though dissapointed in his Bowl game I thought he was very underrated simply because he was short.
Pass on Smith. QBs under 6' 2'' have struggled in the NFL in the past. The exception was Fran Tarkenton. He played in the 60's and 70's - a different era. Flutie was average at best.
just because u are short doesnt mean ur a Bad QB the reason Chris Leak isnt playing is because he is to short and he was a decent QB in college
I was really big on Troy Smith, in fact I was hoping we'd get him at some point, because i didnt feel that other than JaMarcus Russell, there were no other franchise Qbs in the draft but Smith was closest to it. Yea, he had a bit a of slump later in the year, but he showed the tools needed for the NFL plus special moves in the pocket. Oh well...
i said last year the phins should take him, but i was called an idiot and i am a gator fan, but i still liked troy smith
I dont think we missed Smith, I think we just chose the wrong QB. I have been watching Smith and he has been sensational for the Ravens and he is definately the future there. We chose Beck instead of Edwards, who is the future in Buffalo. Beck has struggled alot and I hope he proves me wrong but I absolutely hate the fact that he is like 26 years old.
me2 and i have hated it since we got him. I keep thinking how in the hell can he be our future qb if he sits two years. I know he was on that mission thing for two years but i am not a fan of his age at all.
It seems like everytime a guy has 1 good game in the NFL people come running here to say that we should have drafted that guy....lol I think we have a good young QB prospect that will be a lot better next year...give Beck a break guys...he's played 3 games and a little bit of 2 others. And if you guys notice, after his fumble today he did fine. Ozzy rules!!
So far he's younger, and has played at a higher level than Beck. There ARE reasons to beleive he's going to be better. I like Beck, he needs to step it up big time though.
Smith has player more than one good game. He beat us when he came in for the hurt boller. He won that game but stover who never misses, did miss. He did decent in Seattle and he tore things up against Pittsburgh.Edwards has player good through all of his starts and looks great. Beck had three starts and did not generate an offensive touchdown in any of those three games. And he is older than all of these rookies.
You do realize there are several QBs in the NFL currently that are under 6'2" don't you? Drew Brees 6'0, Mark Brunnel is 6'1", Jeff Garcia is 6'1", David Garrard is 6'1", Rex Grossman is 6'1", Tim Ratay is 6'0". Remember Michael Vick, he was 6'0". There are a few others I didn't mention who are also under 6'2" It seems like half of the QBs in the league are 6'2", yet some people on here still say that Beck is too small at 6'2"? If Troy Smith has the talent he will excell in the NFL, even if he is under 6'2" but thats JMO.
I don't think we missed out on Smith. My opinion is that Smith is nothing more than a backup. Had a good game in a meaningless game. He might find a niche as a Trent Dilfer type of starter but I don't think he can be any more than that. Just a caretaker role at best which is what he's shown so far. Then again, Beck hasn't exactly done that either.
both Smith and Edwards would of probably struggled here just like Beck. Its still too early to say if we did or didnt.
I was pretty vocal about my disinterest in Troy Smith last year and i don't see much in him now. He played in a meaningless game and did well. You could say Beck looked real good today sans his opening fumble. But a botched shotgun snap has more to do with lack of repetition than anything else, i'd still give the nod to Beck. (He also played with a much less impressive offense as well.) I don't really care about Becks age because I don't think Miamis in a position to say "we need a QB for 10 years" We're more so in the "Wow if we got a steady QB for 5-7 years, that'd be amazing" category.
he came in with 2 min to go drove them down for what should have been a win for the ravens, there is now way Beck could do that ,and we have betters recievers than the ravens
If that's what you think then go be a Ravens fan. It is amazing to me so many people discredit the fact ou offense was the worst offense in Dolphins history. Do you think Troy Smith would have done good behind our line? BTW the Ravens receivers are much better than our ours Mason had 103 catches Clayton had 48( 2 less than our leading receiver). They also have Todd Heap and Mcgahee catching the balls out of the back field. The only thing you've proven is you have no idea what you are talking about. You give Beck some talent around him, better blocking, and a fuunctional offensive game plan and then we can fairly evaluate him. If you think you can evaluate a rookie in just 4 games from your couch on the worst team in football then maybe you need reconsider what you think you know about this game. I think some of you would rather have Beck fail just because you've already unfairly concluded he can't be good. I think many of you would be disappointed if he played lights out. WAKE UP! I can't say he is going to be great any more than anyone can say he's going to fail. What I can say is he takes accountability for his poor play. He's smart. He wants to get better and has the work ethic to do so. He has a passion for the game. He had opportunity to play and looked bad, yes. However his most established target was a banged up Marty Booker. To make things worse he had zero protection. Lemon got sacked 7 times against the Patriots. and he is as illusive qb as we've had around here. That fact alone should tell you about how poorly they've played protecting the qb. You are same misinformed people who perpetually insisted the reason Ronnie wasn't putting up good number was because he wasn't any good. Look people you can't put ford escort engine in a Fararri and expect it to get the same performance. A team is the sum off all it's parts. You just can't plug in a Peyton Manning and expect we're a championship caliber team. We had Marino and that netted us how many superbowls.
I definitely think that some of you are jumping to conclusions on Troy Smith's career. He hasn't exactly set the world on fire. In four games (2 starts) has completed just 52.6% of his pass attempts and has just 2 touchdowns in 76 pass attempts. He's also fumbled 3 times and lost 2 of them. He is a rookie, so I'm sure he'll improve, but to say that he'll be great, or even starting material might be a bit of a stretch at this point.
