You have literally conjured this all up in your own mind. None of this is factual unless you yourself have direct intel on the conversations that Grier and company have behind closed doors. This is pure imaginative speculation on your part and yet you champion it as fact. You're naming rookies that haven't even played yet and I can predict how this is going to go. First of all, leave Caleb Williams off your list. There's no way Chicago was going to pass on him OR trade him. That pick was never available! It never is when a potential franchise quarterback is there for the taking. Now, Daniels, Maye, Nix, JJ McCarthy...All of them are going to get a shot at some point to play during their rookie seasons unless the guy ahead of them is just too good. There will be countless amounts of overreactions from game to game based off of what these guys do and how they perform. The very minute Drake Maye throws a touchdown pass, you and all the other Tua haters will be here salivating over how awesome he is while trashing Tua. It happens every year with rookie quarterbacks. Some of them come in and flash right away and everyone loses their minds thinking they are the next big thing. CJ Stroud was last years golden boy while Bryce Young was shat on all season long. These things change over time. CJ Stroud will have a down year, Bryce Young will have a great year eventually. You can't judge a quarterback on their initial success or lack thereof. It's been four seasons with Tua and he's shown more than enough for us to keep him around. I'm sorry you and others can't see this, but it's not exactly easy finding a competent starting quarterback in this league. There are a lot of other factors that go into the game of football aside from just the quarterback position. I assumed you knew this based on your famous suggestions of us trading or moving Tua for the likes of guys like Trevor Simian and Cooper Rush (LOL).

And every other organization in the league has treated that whole thing like it didn't happen because they know how stupid it was.

We knew about everything going on with Watson in real time. Houston was open about shopping him and even eased up on tampering preclusions by letting teams negotiate with him. They wanted to reset before having to give him a quarter of their salary cap. That's very different from Noobie concluding that we must have offered Tua to QB needy teams before the draft because *reasons*.

To be fair, a GM's first job every day has to be to upgrade his roster and that includes improving personnel - including quarterbacks. If somebody were to call Grier up with a great offer for Tua, we'd trade him in a heartbeat. It's an unspoken understanding among personnel departments that everybody can be had for a price. But it's silly to intuit that we were shopping Tua because Grier said all options were on the table before the draft.

I imagine that nobody here needs to read commentary about the challenges facing rookie QB's. Everybody knows that using a 1st round pick on a QB is a bit of crap shoot and the odds of success are 50-50 or worse. But, the rookie QB at least has the potential to develop into one who may lead the team to a Superbowl, and that is an alluring prospect.
In contrast, people who understand football have seen for 4-years now what Tua brings to the NFL table and that is why no other team tried to acquire him. And, why the Dolphins have not offered him a contract extension. The bottom line is that for two seasons in a row the Tua-led Dolphins have had late season collapses. And before that Coach Flores had questioned Tua's work ethic. So, alarm bells are rampant. That said, I do not fault the Dolphins management for 5 years ago drafting Tua and taking a shot with him.
The 2024 season I expect will be fun to watch because while Tua is playing on his 5th year option, Coach McDaniel is on the hot seat, Waddle is trying to prove himself worthy of a second contract, and Hill trying to prove he's still a leading receiver within the League, there is no shortage of motivation.

I wasn't suggesting that the Dolphins were shopping Tua, I was replying to Rick's assertion that the "reality of the league" is that teams don't do deals like that.

You're literally asking, "If Tua is so good, why aren't team trying to trade for him?". I can't even begin to explain how stupid that is. He's not available for a trade.

How do you know that the Dolphins haven't offered a contract yet? They are currently in very public contract negotiations, it's not a secret and it will get done.

You really aren’t serious, are you? The Dolphins and Tua’s agent are negotiating his contract as we speak. The Dolphins want Tua signed and locked in. Tua wants his contract with the Dolphins. The obstacle? The right price!

You are making it sound d as if the Dolphins DON’T want to sign Tua long term.

Yes, I believe for this coming season the Dolphins management plans to have Tua play on the 5th year option of his rookie contract.

And they don't. The Browns situation is now viewed as a cautionary tale in the NFL.

The Browns deal was a special kind of stupid but as PT Barnum said "there is a sucker born every day". If a top tier QB was available for trade (and that includes Tua), there is no doubt some team would pay the piper.

So either Mike McDaniel is full of sh!t or you are. Tua will sign his extension before the season starts and you can bend the knee to Tuanon or go troll another fan base with your nonsense. The game will be over soon.

I will bet you a self imposed 1 year ban Tua signs his extension before the end of training camp.

They had to pay him after they *checked notes* tried to trade him to Chicago, Washington, and New England before the draft and nobody wanted him. Because that's how the NFL works, apparently.

By extending Lawrence, Jacksonville management made a huge mistake. His play the past three years has been mediocre and on his rookie contract he still had a 4th year plus the option 5th year remaining. If Lawrence happened to lead the team to good season (s) the Jaguars had two more years worth of opportunities to sign him to a longer term contract, so there was no good sense reason to extend him now.

You are being facetious but the reality is that the Bears, Commanders, and Patriots would prefer to try and develop a rookie QB on a rookie contract rather than overpay for a proven mediocre-in-the-NFL Trevor Lawrence.

Like if he took his team to the playoffs, was an MVP candidate, the league’s leading passer, and was near or at the top of all passing categories for two straight years? Things like that?

Yes, Tua and Trevor have had comparable pro careers; both failing during big games and, or known for late season collapses. Due to Tua's propensity to suffer concussions I expect all NFL teams would be more inclined to sign Trevor.

Nice deflection. Who am I kidding, it wasn’t a nice deflection at all.

So the question still stands by the gentleman concerned…are you game?

Are you willing to wager a self imposed 1 year ban if I’m right…and Tua signs his extension before the end of training camp?

Im a man of my word. I will honor it if I’m wrong. Are you?
