Im interested in seeing what he can do there rather than DE. Too bad hes a tweener with no TRUE position fitting
It is hard to see Roth being athletic enough to make that sort of switch, but then again he was injured most of last season. Standing him up does negate the play after play disadvantage of his short arms though, and he was pretty quick at the 40 yd dash coming out of Iowa and has played a bit of LB his freshman and Sophomore seasons.
Yeah, I'm not sure how good that is for him though. He already lost his job at the end spot. Now, if he doesn't impress at the OLB, he might not make the team.
Sink or Swim with Parcells Alen1, if he cannot hack it, then he probably should be moved off the roster. I don't say that out of dislike for Roth, heck, Rod Wright is in trouble as well IMO, with the new Front Office, they are not afraid to change things up.
Yeah I know Padre, I concur. I just find it really interesting where he is now, considering less than a month ago, he was locking down the end spot. I think we talked about this in another thread. But I really don't know about Rod Wright. I like him a lot, he can play the end and tackle. He has good quickness and has gotten in the backfield a couple times while playing tackle. The guys on the line right now: Dotson Wright Langford Merling Holliday Ferguson Roth Starks Toribio Soliai If Aqua's training camp roster in the CL is correct, we would keep seven linemen. Dotson and Toribio are likely headed to PS so that's eight now. If Roth doesn't make it, that's seven and Wright stays. Anything below seven, Wright is likely gone.
Henne making throws. Glad to hear. Damn drops. Damn fumbles, hoping this isn't a sign of things to come. Sacked by Porter...did he hold on to the ball too long or poor line play? Details!
Yeah it would be nice to get more information on these things, however, I would expect they are in a hurry to get the info out so they write quick blurbs. You know us fans reading the blogs want updates like RIGHT NOW! Still would be nice to get more information, especially on bad plays such as Beck held too long, O-line let (insert name here) through untouched, etc.
From the way it sounds he is tapping the ball with his left hand just prior to throwing the pass. I don't know why this would be happening. My only thought could be that he is getting happy hands,as opposed to happy feet, and may not even know that he is doing it. I am sure if the coaches noticed it, and thought it was affecting his throw, they would address it pretty quickly. It doesn't sound like something he has been doing all along since its the first I have read about it. Heck, maybe its something they told him to do to enable him to throw a better ball or to keep his timing down. (we all know that the buzzer is giving all the QB's trouble but it seems it gives him the most trouble) I don't know just shooting in the dark.
Yeah, I don't understand why they run to their car to update us. It doesn't have to be live. Just write everything down and then after practice, tell us what happened. I rather the journalist get the whole thing down and then break it down for us instead of him hauling arse back and forth, missing parts of practice.
What is up with Travis Daniels he has been very productive lately I think that is his second INT in 2 days. I think he was intercepting passes last week to.
Great to hear Henne is throwing a great deep ball and if he works out it sounds like the Henne to Ginn connection could be something we will all be enjoying for many years.
Yea I think coming into camp that was one of the things that every one was excited about Chad Henne being able to throw the deep ball. I would love to hear the combintition. Chad Henne throws it down field. Ted Ginn Jr all alone and he catches it and no one is going to catch Ginn he will go all the way and the Dolphins win the superbowl.
It must have killed Henne to have to toss a beautiful TD pass like to that Ginn, but at the same time, i bet he's loving it!! How awesome would it be to see two college rivals like that, hooking up for TD after TD for us on the field this year.. sounds pretty damn awesome to me!!! It might actually make me hate OSU a little bit less for blessing us with a talent like ted... of course its mostly due to a perfectly throw ball by Henne from Michigan All joking aside though, nice to hear Henne had a nice start to his day. Gotta love that! That will make you learn to capitalize on opportunities!
Sorry to say but based on what I see on the 11 on 11 drills, we suck. We're 10 days into training camp and so far the rookie seems to be the best?
I have been wondering this for a couple of days . . . Are we still rotating the two "up" and one "down" system on the quarterbacks? I have not heard this mentioned the past few practices and it seems like they are all gettig some kind of work.
Yeah, I think it was yesterday when one of them was ''down''. I want to say McCown but I can't say for sure. Only on 11-11 from my understanding.
Yeah. This QB competition should be more interesting now that the offense has been installed (aside from goal line situations). Henne said yesterday in an interview/article that the offense was done being installed aside from the above.
I think this is also very important to remember. Last week they were installing different offensive strategies and situations. All three QB's struggled and thats not unexpected. Now that the install is complete, it becomes more repetitive and I think the QB's will begin to settle down and things are going to improve. Heck, it already seems that this week the offense, particularly the QB's have performed much better. One concern I have is that there seems to be more drops this week then last week, maybe they are just bringing them up more, or perhaps the QB's are finally getting alot of balls to the WR's and more drops are happening. I don't know but catchable balls that are droppped are a big QB killer. Just got to be patient with the QB competition, still a long way to go.
Now I see it differently...perhaps Roth makes his value that much more to Tunaland since he is, or at least has been willing and so far able, to become more flexible and that increases his chances of etching a roster spot....?? Either way, it bodes well for the D....
I totally agree, Larry. If anything, Roth's ability to also drop into the OLB position from DE is a bonus. This enhances his chances of solidifying a roster spot. Our FO and Coaching Staff are all about veratility, the more you can do for the team, the greater your chances are of staying on the team!
