Everyone is talking about Ireland and Sparano, with most unhappy with what they have done. It seems that Tuna is out of sight, out of mind in fan's disappointments. Is that fair?
I read an article in today's Sun where they say that Tuna's blueprint on rebuilding the team was flawed and outdated. I believe we all agree that he was large and in charge on all football decisions for three years.
So, why are Irish and Tony the brunt of fans displeasure when they have really only been making decisions for this past off season?

Because by now they should have an exact idea of what direction this team is heading in. They dont, and neither do we. Us fans are scratching our heads with uncertainty so we dont need our HC and front office to do it. By now they should have a clue and sometimes it seems they just dont.the 23rd likes this. -
I don't think Tuna has escaped anyone's thoughts when thinking of this teams failures. But no one knows exactly whose pick is who. So its hard to place blame where, and Ireland is here now. I personally think Ireland has done a good job in some areas, and has failed in others. I would like to give him some time personally.
I think the worst thing for this franchise was still having tuna behind the scenes because as a franchise we don't know what we have. We are starting to see what Tony S is without him, and its not good. -
Parcells is no longer involved in the team. If he was still here, I have no doubt that the majority of the fans now calling for the firing of Ireland and Sparano would also be calling for Ross to fire Parcells. In fact I personally think that Parcells saw how inept he was in his job and he got out of town before Ross booted him out. Ireland and Sparano now get and deserve all the heat because they were hired by Parcells and they have not performed at the level expected, when they were hired.
Parcells has shown that he was not only inept at building a team. He also showed that when it comes to hiring a head coach and GM to rebuild a franchise, he has no clue. In fact when you examine his coaching career. He never took a team to the Super Bowl on a divisional championship game without Belichick as his defensive coordinator. Without Belichick on his staff, Parcells was nothing but an average coach in the NFL. I think Belichick was far more responsible for all the hype concerning Parcells, than Parcells was himself.mi2cents, xphinfanx, fin13 and 1 other person like this. -

They were without the Tuna last year as well. Ireland has only had one draft, while Tony has had a few to show himself. I would give him the full season to prove himself.Southbeach likes this. -
Why not blame it on President Bush instead?
this is Sparano's team, Parcells left a while ago & he left at odds with Sparano's coaching decisions.
it is what it is: Sparanos' team, Sparano's responsibility. No more excuses. -

Fat Bill deserves some blame to be sure but he is gone ( thankfully ) and blaming him is not productive. This duo will either win or not and if it is apparent that it is same as it ever was , then time to completely cleanse this team of the malaise , culture and lack of astute leadership that has plaqued them for far too long , imo.
A loss Sunday means they both are gone and both should be gone , imo .
I hope we win Sunday , I truly do , I will get no pleasure from another imploding performance , but if you ask me to truthfully say who I think will win , I would have to say Cleveland. There is a rot permeating this franchise , it needs to be completely be vanished imo. -

I don't think Parcells has been absolved from blame from the fans. I do think he added some value to the rebuilding of this franchise, but not nearly to the level that he once was capable of. Much of his approach has come off outdated, and that may be a big reason why you aren't seeing any teams truly explore trying to acquire his services. But he is gone now, and I think there is enough blame to go around. For one, I don't agree he was in charge of all football decisions for the 3 years. I think there's enough evidence out there to support Ireland's having made the final call on many of our draft and personnel decisions. Vonte Davis and Brandon Marshall, off the top of my head, are 2 instances where Ireland appears to have fought for those players and in the end was allowed to have the final say over it. I happen to think Ireland's done a pretty good job, but I'm not going to turn a blind eye to his mistakes, either.
As for Sparano, Parcells often points out that there are 3 steps to player personnel: Identifying talent, acquiring talent, and coaching them up. If this team continues to not be able to overcome mental mistakes and not have players develop in one manner or another, much of that will fall on the shoulders of Sparano and his staff. There's only so much there that can be blamed on the framework that Parcells put into place.
The Parcells shadow basically died out after year two. If this franchise doesn't get it turned around soon, Sparano and Ireland will justly deserve their share of the blame.the 23rd likes this. -
Every Dolphins fan expected a playoff run this year and thru 2 games, we look like were going to have a top 4 pick in next years draft. We're all disappointed right now and we're searching for answers. As fans, we're blaming this and that, IMO, I don't know who to blame. I honestly believe that if we lose to Cleveland, we're done as far as playoff hopes, but we'll still have 13 games to sit back and watch.
Sometimes I think to myself that would I enjoy the game more if I wasn't a fan of a certain team?? Like my boss, he doesn't have a favorite team, he just watches and enjoys the game. -
Now, I watch every game at least twice. I look at things like how the safety was positioned and if the WR ran the right route. I do miss the simpler days of being a Phan. Knowledge is not always a good thing.steveincolorado likes this. -

You know...the one area on this team that could have led us to wins in both the last two games....is the one area Sparano himself is supposed to be an expert on. Why cant this team get our OL correct?
-
They failed in turning the team into a contender, but they pulled the team out of the hole it was in. They cleaned up the mess the team was in, and its not really as easy a task as people like to pretend. I feel like if you expected Parcells to stay through the full tentureof his contract you were flat out fooling yourself.

Three years is more than enough time to turn a franchise around if you have the right GM and coaching staff.
Maybe not to division winner , but trending to that? Absolutely. Virtually every year you have 5 - 6 new teams in the playoffs , unless you have traded your future away you have multiple high picks that can and should contribute very soon if not immediately.
As I have mentioned , I think both Ireland and Sparano are in over their heads at their positions and to me , it is showing on the field and the listless way the team is trending.
Can they bounce back and be competitive? Sure , will they? Not so sure? More than that though with how the pattern has been established? That I have no confidence in. -
A coach saying he has no idea what is wrong with his team after an 0-2 start is not instilling much confidence in players or fans. Maybe he didn't want to point fingers as some suggest but he could certainly do more than state he doesn't know what is wrong. A win in Cleveland will help to restore some hope and faith, but a loss will only lead to more frustration and a feeling of hopelessness.

I have lost faith in Sparano and Ireland (and Parcells).
I want them gone.
I fear that if they eke out 7-8 wins they will get to stay, and the problems will continue.
I hate to say it, but I am forced to hope the Dolphins lose games to make sure a big change is made.
Lose the battle to win the war.
I have not felt this way since Wannstedt lingered like a cancer of mediocrity for years.NaboCane likes this. -
It's why I've tried to support Sparano as much as possible..Dude probably wasn't ready, but I thought that considering the circumstances and variables that he inherited, and being left out to dry, he had done a pretty good job in his first rodeo, up until this point, a good enough job where he gets 3 more games from me to see if he has the talent as a coach to turn this season around in the face of adversity..muscle979 likes this. -

I believe if this team succeeds it will succeed in spite of Bill Parcells, not because of him. Bill Parcells came to the Dolphins without dedication, with expectations unfulfilled,
and implied promises that weren't kept. Excuses can be made for Parcell to leave, such as Ross buying the team or that he could leave before his contract was up and still collect his pay. But, the bottom line is that Parcells left before the job was done and didn't live up to his reputation nor his obligations.steveincolorado and djphinfan like this. -
There isn't anyone in NFL history better than Bill Parcells if you're in the kind of hole the Dolphins were in. No one has turned around as many teams as Parcells has, period. That's well worth the price of admission, even if his protégé does not work out. We could absolutely still be in the hole or close to what we were in when he was hired. It's a lot easier than people like to pretend.Anonymous likes this. -
What do you think were acceptable goals for Parcells when he took the job? Hire people and leave without knowing how they would flourish?...His coach is down to 3 games before we might have to start again....I'am sorry, his three years, or was it 2 and a half?, were not worth it if that indeed is the case..
Hey, noone had more respect for Parcells than I did, that doesn't make him immune to criticism for doing a poor job of executive leadership...He's human, his *** doesn't need to be kissed because of his history anymore..Sparano turning it around in the next 3 games is his last hope, and mine, otherwise, he failed misreably at the job..
So seeing that were on the subject, lets say Sparano does fail, and the regime gets the axe, you still gonna stand behind the job he did here? -
We've got Al Groh 2.0 and a talented, young, but somewhat flawed roster. Dolphins fans acting like they're more long-suffering then they actually re need to get a grip on themselves. We're not in an awful situation.Anonymous likes this. -
getting some better players in here after 4 years of drafting, and leaving them direction less, is not good enough imo, in the context of being the president of football operations. -
So Wayne Huizenga hired him to put a losing regime in place and hit the road before they got fired? You're acting like the only alternatives to Bill Parcells were a team of trained monkeys. I hear those guys Atlanta hired [you know when the legend himself turned them down] are doing a pretty good job.. notice I can use the present tense because they're still around.NaboCane likes this. -
I don't think it's at all a given the Falcons staff would have fixed this. They didn't start nearly in the same hole we did, and frankly, their unqualified draft successes basically begin and end with Matt Ryan. -
Didn't we the fans get pissed in 2008 when TS had to share coach of the year award?
Now everyone is calling for his head. -
i think parcells did a great job building the essential foundation here. we need ireland to have one killer draft however to get us over the top. he's not bad he's not great the last few years. you need one or two A+ drafts in a five year period to build a Super Bowl Team
