Who you got tonight?
I think Randy will take it. Might even stop him. Definitely a better striker than Noguiera. And his wrestling will help him away from the submission game IMO.
At 46, it's all gravy for Randy. But this is a crossroads fight for Minotauro. He's barely 33 and looked like a shot fighter last time out. We learned later that he was in the hospital for a week less than three weeks prior to the fight and was also banged up physically.
Still, it's a crossroads fight. He's got to prove to everyone he's not the fighter he appeared to be against Mir.

What a round!
Impressive round by Nog, he was better all around. -
new rule for ufc to consider......regardless of title implications........if its the main event.....it needs to be 5 rounds.......jmho

This is MMA, anything is possible.
And out of the guys in UFC, i think he has a pretty decent chance. -
Awesome fight.
Nogueira looked great. I didn't realize just how bad a shape he was in going into the Mir fight. No, he looked like the old Nogueira tonight.
Randy was really great shape and came to fight. He looked to be done a few times, via punches and submissions. And he hung in there and got out. Amazing performance for anyone, especially a 46-year old.
Those two threw down tonight. Great fight.slickj101 likes this. -
As for the other fights, too bad for Ed Hermann. That Simpson(?) guy he fought looks to be an exciting fighter. But Hermann showed great poise and experience hanging in and withstanding. Looks like a torn ACL to me. Pretty darn good fight before that.
That Duffy guy scored the UFC record knockout in 7 seconds. That's a big dude that can punch. Hopefully he'll remain unbeaten and be a good fight for Lesnar someday.
Damian Maia.....talk about falling flat on your face. Reminded me of AA jumping into Fedor's fist. Just like that, and he's 11-1. Sucks because you're hoping for someone to look good enough to give Silva a fight at 185.
I'm not a fan of Thiago Silva. But he did what he was supposed to do tonight.Big E likes this. -
What a great PPV. This event shows why UFC is the premiere fight company today. The show didn't have the huge cards that normally draw the viewers, but I promise you, it was well worth watching. Great matches.

He also had a torn cartilage in his knee. Certainly would account for how stationary he was in that fight.

though i did not see it, and as much as i hate to see Couture lose, i think this outcome was good for the UFC, from eveything i have read so far.
Nog shows that his fight against Mir was an abberation, and there is still plenty left in the tank at 33 (i thought til the other day that he was close to 40).
and even at 46, Randy stood in their and banged against the younger opponent, and went the distance even though he got caught and dropped with strikes and had to defend Nog's jiu-jitsu on the ground.
even though he lost, it doesn't sound as though he is anywhere near washed up. and being the drawing card he is, that is good news for UFC.
plus, after watching TUF and seeing Minotauro on the show as a coach, he is a class act all the way around. so if Captain America had to lose, i can't think of a better guy to lose to. -
Why is this the first we are hearing about how beat up Nog was vs. Mir????? Just seems strange to state "reasons why", following a win vs. Randy.
-
Indeed.
While it doesn't look like Randy can beat the upper echelon of heavyweights anymore, he still looks like he could still tear thru a lot of that division. He looked nowhere near a shot fighter. And Randy said he signed a 6-fight, 28-month extension before the fight. He'll retire with the UFC. So they definitely still want him fighting for them.
But he's Randy Couture. It does nobody involved any good for him to fight below the upper echelon. It has to be those kind of 'interesting fights' as he put it.
I'd love to see him fight Mir. I'd love to see Nogueira get a rematch with Mir. I'd love to see all three of them fight Carwin. Lesnar-Nogueira would probably look like Sylvia-Nogueira, with Brock being a much more skilled and evolved athlete than Tim.
Dana said Brock was cheering for Randy last night, and asked for that fight should Randy have pulled it out.Big E likes this. -
randy vs mir would be awesome
-
After his loss to Mir, he was asked if it affected him he responded with something like "Oh yeah, definetly affected the shape I was in, and I didin't prepare the way I would of otherwis" He also goes on to say that Mir did everything right, so basically he did not milk it waht so ever and gave all the credit to mir, thats why everybody started "omg he is old and he sux" chant. Ive been saying that Nog will be back and I called him beating Randy.
The fact that Randy signed a 6 fight deal leaves me no doubt that he WILL fight Mir, propably next fight, too.

Brock trains under Randy some.....he has alot of respect for him, as he should.
-
yeah, as big a prick as Brock was after the second Mir fight, i recall that he was very humble and respectful after fighting Randy.
-
Basically a prick after every fight he's won except Hall of Famer Randy.Big E likes this. -
