Chael on Silva; "He is who I thought he is, and I let him off the hook"
Also, in the next UFC game, knocking out Big Country should be an achievement. Seriously.
That is all.

Watched this too. Man did Silva take a beating. For the first two rounds, he looked like he was just going through the motions though. I don't know if he came in over confident or what but he didn't look like the Silva I know. Kudos to Chael though. He grinded it out for nearly five full rounds before he got caught in the end. Silva's still a bad *** IMO.

I don't know who you can say silva was going thru the motions. He was on his feet all of 1 minute max in this fight? He was simply dominated by the ground and pound of Sonnen.
I could of watched the first fight and went to sleep after that. Pretty much snoozers tonight -

Roy Nelson may not be the picture boy for the UFC but Dana has to atleast be pleased with his effort. Hughes has single handedly taken out the Gracie camp, member by member. Choke move he used reminded me of High School and my wrestling days. Always keep your head up, lol. Silva looked human. Sonnan HAS to be kicking himself for leaving himself open for the choke at the end. He gave it to Silva. His positioning was terrible at the end. IMO he got careless. Fitch/Alves II was boring IMO.

Ironically if sonnen fought like silva his last few fights in that fnal round.......we'd have a new MW champion
-
silva had been looking for that submission in the last part of the 3rd round. I actually saw that and told my neighbor it was a matter of time and sure enough.................... I give props to sonnen, but he should have been more cautious after that 3rd round in my opinion.

Silva said afterward that he hurt his ribs in training and the doctor wanted him to cancel the fight. I know that makes everything hurt, but I don't know what it has to do with defending yourself or kicking Sonnen off.
He looked lethargic on the bottom a lot of the fight, but he simply couldn't defend the takedown out there. Sonnen pretty much walked thru his stand up. And he sure as hell wasn't lethargic at the beginning of rounds 2-5, when he knew this was trouble and was trying to KO Sonnen standing up.
To me he got beat up and Sonnen got caught up. Sonnen had gotten too low in that guard for 3-4 rounds and Silva finally made him pay. Credit Chael for doing exactly what he said he was going to do. And credit Silva for snatching victory from certain defeat after getting dominated for 23 minutes. Great finish.alen1 likes this. -

I think it's kind of a two-way street. You could be like Jon Fitch and mostly try to advance position on the ground, which bores a lot of fans. I guess I look at it as "at least he's working and striking in some fashion". They generally weren't big shots (some definitely were), but he never stopped striking.
