If he does we'll see if Hickey stays true to his BPA philosophy and takes him...if by some miracle he's there passing on him would just be stupid. If he's there at 17 I already start writing his name on the card just in case.

be surprised if he fell to 19. I could see someone jumping ahead of us to get him if they think we might select him.
I'd be fine with a CB at 19 if he's really that good. -
I really don't feel that CB is nearly the need for the Dolphins that the OL or LB positions are. So I hope Hickey is able to find a player at a position of need when the Dolphins turn to draft comes up in the first round.
If the Dolphins can upgrade the OL and the LB positions in the first two rounds, I would have no problem with them drafting CB, Lamarcus Joyner in the third round, if he is still on the board. I think he would be an excellent addition to the secondary and would be an upgrade over the CB's drafted in 2013. Of course I think the chances of Joyner still being on the board when the Dolphins select in round three is probably about zero percent.
I think in next years draft, the Dolphins may have to select a CB or safety in the first round, but right now upgrading the OL and the LB corp has to be their priority concern. -
Verrett, is a physical CB who can flat out play.
Miami seems to prefer feisty physical DB's. -
linebacker you have a point, I actually don't think Mosley will be there at 19, Shazier over Gilbert I guess I'd be okay with. As for OT, I think the 4 best tackles will be gone, any other tackle at the spot is a reach.Itsdahumidity likes this. -
I'm pretty worried about the secondary right now, the unit is looking at taking a huge step back this season if we don't acquire some more help. -
I didn't say we have to go corner in the 1st, just that if Gilbert is there we should take him. -

Regardless of what we take, we need playmakers. If that happens to be a CB, S, TE, OL or ILB, I don't care as long as they make plays that help us win football games. If we can find another lockdown CB, that opens up a whole world of opportunties. We already have some great play makers on defense that can get to the QB, another good CB would give those guys more time to get to the QB.

the young guys we draft that I feel good about usually pan out, for instance I liked OV cuz I saw he had the raw talent, plus guys from the U always work hard, same with Lamar Miller. Vernon completely transformed his body, you see how big he was at the combine? I liked Rishard Matthews over BJ Cunningham even tho BJ got drafted earlier.
really the only development I didn't foresee was Clay's. -
What Aqua4Ever04 said was correct. Using a first on a corner back would be a waste of resources. Now, if all the first round worthy tackles are gone, all the first round eligible receivers are gone, along with Shazier and Ebron then you can probably take the best available player which would probably be a corner. But that is very unlikely to happen. Best option would be to leave corner for another round because it is the last of this teams concerns. Brent Grimes is a very good corner. Jimmy Wilson played well in the slot last season. Finnegan is a bad corner and downgrade from Carrol but you can recover as a defense from one bad corner. There is also the possibility he rebounds or Taylor/Davis step up. I don't see the need at all for a corner.djphinfan likes this. -
And I really like Jamar, he's a very tough kid, very physical once he gains his confidence at this level. -
I wouldn't want Gilbert even if he was available. I do not like him at all and cannot understand why everyone thinks he's a top 10 pick. His tackling is putrid and personally I don't think he looks good in coverage either, he just seems to have such good athleticism that he can overcome it at the college level. One of the few first round prospects I would actually be upset about if we took him.

I like Gilbert but there are question-marks. And the reality is, the D will be pretty good next year - better than last year, imo. I like the competition at CB (including Michael Thomas as a potential dime back).
I think we ultimately need offensive firepower that we don't have. Including an improved OL, and WR, RB and another TE.
We don't have a "Grimes" caliber player at WR. And, in the NFL, you ostensibly need at least 3 WR's who can really get it done. Hartline is coming off injury. Wallace is who he is. But, the #3, #4, #5 players at WR either have question marks (injuries), or simply are not explosive players. -
I'm usually for BPA at a skill position. But if you have a glaring need and player available who is close to BPA than take him. I know, the grades on Bitonio and James are not that high but I believe, both are better than their grades and would be quality players on our O-Line (it's a glaring need to keep our QB alive an give the running game some space). It would be perfect, to get James in the second round (maybe by trading up), but I would not be disappointed by drafting one of them at 19. But If you go BPA than do it right. It doesn't matter if the BPA ist a WR, a LB or Corner. Regardeless if you have already a star at a skill position on your roster, he is always one play away from an ACL or another injury. Great players wins championships, if you can draft one do it.

And ftr, I was still in favor of drafting Austin and especially Bailey. -
I'd then explore trading up into the early-mid second to take a guy like J. James at RT. -
