The guard market is ugly right now, Shelley Smith is like the only suitable option left. I'm not tryna go into the draft searching for 3 starters on the line...finding 2, though not easy, is manageable, but looking for 3 is just asking for trouble. And no, I don't consider Nate Garner or Dallas Thomas or any of the other bums Ireland found to be starters.
or should we just sign Zach Streif and find our guards in the draft?

Branden Albert..Mike Pouncey...two out of five probowl players..
This can be done..
I have more faith in Dallas Thomas than everyone it seems, I swear unless I totally botched his evaluation coming out I had him as being a solid guard.
There will also be cuts..
Free agency is not over..
Draft is deep.
Maybe a player for player trade at some point.DHPVW, DPlus47, Steve-Mo and 1 other person like this. -
Im not thrilled about the lack of lineman but defense (aside from our lb corp which can't really be helped due to bad contracts), the defense is in great shape
There are still some names out there, hopefully we find someone. -
I guess they're waiting for the G numbers to come back down b/c those salaries are a little too high. Especially for Gs with injury histories.

When will then be now?
Dietrich Smith would be a great get for us since he can play C if Pouncey is injured / suspended / sick / a moronASOT likes this. -

Dang, didn't catch that Howard signed with Raiders. If Smith signs elsewhere I'll be a little discouraged. RT tackle I can deal with getting a Cyrus K, JuWaun James or Seantrel Henderson to fill. Left Guard I can see a Zach Martin, Xavier Su'a-Filo, David Yankey, and Brandon Thomas all fitting. RG is a question mark. Maybe trade for Maurkice Poucey like some have suggested and move Mike to RG? Other than that, I agree 3 rookies could be disastrous and the scraps out there now are really meh.

I'd also be fine with going after Zack Strief. Same principles apply. -

Of course, I have seen nothing where the Dolphins have shown any interest, so there's that. I'm just saying what I would do, which is worth whatever anyone will pay for it (so far, not much, though I'm hopeful!). But I digress -- if you saw a link where the Bucs signed him or have agreed in principle, lemme know or please share! -
LB's player evaluation:
"His name is Shelley so yuck." -
-
I don't think LB is completely wrong here. A little impatient, maybe. But not all that wrong.
We literally have 3 positions without starting caliber players across a single unit.
1) Relying on Dallas Thomas to be a starter after he couldn't get on the field for a single snap during a historically bad season from our OGs, 1 player walking off the team, and another being suspended indefinitely is not promising for his future in this league.
2) Relying on a drafted rookie O lineman rarely works out well. Those guys that come into the league and produce effectively and immediately are usually drafted with the first ten picks in the draft. We don't have one of those. And even if we did, it's still a big gamble.
I'm satisfied with the Albert pickup, but I really think that we should've overpaid if we had to for another solid FA lineman given our dire circumstances. We had the money to do so. Now, it looks like there's not many solid options out there. -

Doing it this year with guys like Dallas Thomas and/or rookies will likely result in the same sort of disasterASOT likes this. -

Tackle in 2nd
Sign a OG and draft 1 too.
We are fine -
Guards are probably the easiest to plug in an average guy and have him play well if there is a good tackle next to them. Not worried there. I'd like to fix up our RT position though.
