He had 12 tackles, 1 Interception, 1 pass deflection, and 1 sack. If that is playing hurt sign me up for that any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
I really don't see a horrible game from him. First off, no ILB is going to look good against that spread option offense. Look how many times he is lined up with a WR instead of in his usual stance. Also consider most of the time he was in his usual spot his assignment was most likely QB spy; that instantly makes him the target of the option and will naturally make him look a bit aloof so to speak. Yes, there was a couple bad angles taken by him in the game and yes he should have been able to shed a few more blocks, but overall I think he looked okay against an offense that could make nearly any ILB look bad.
1st play. Couldn't get off the block from WR Ryan Swope. 0:40. Can't beat Swope again. Shows poor anticipation by taking the inside angle. 0:58. Bad angle #1. 1:20. Layin' on the ground watching a TD. 1:49. lazy. 2:10. lollygaggin'. Get back up and show some real pursuit will ya. 2:51. Bad angle #2 that results in a weak ankle tackle. 2:56. Sloppy missed arm tackle. Poor anticipation. 3:25. Swope puts him on his back. 4:30. Late off the snap. Get's out of position. Guard barely has to work to seal him. 4:46. Bad angle #3. 6:33. Bad angle #4. 7:18. Bad angle #5. (understatement)
January 6 (3:00 PM): More juniors reportedly on the move ... ESPN is reporting that LSU and Oklahoma are both on the verge of losing two more juniors to the NFL. According to reports both LSU DE Sam Montgomery and DT Bennie Logan have decided to enter the 2013 draft, as have FS Tony Jefferson and WR Kenny Stills of the Sooners. None of the reports, though, have benn confirmed by either the player or school. LSU junior DE Barkevious Mingo, though, has confirmed via twitter that he will be entering the upcoming draft where he is projected to be a top 10-15 pick. (10:30 AM): Cardinal D gets three back for next year … Stanford MLB Shane Skov is one of three Cardinals with eligibility remaining who has announced he will be back at school next fall rather than enter the 2013 draft. Skov had been considered to be a top prospect at the position for this year’s draft, but was eligible to return to school because he missed much of the 2011 season with a knee injury and really wasn’t 100% this past fall. Skov will be joined in the Cardinal defense next year by fellow junior LB Trent Murphy and junior DE Brent Gardner. http://www.gbnreport.com/
Stanford is going to have a sick defense again next year. I loved Skov before his injury and this this is the correct decision for him. He should be able to get back to his pre-injury form and get drafted higher next year.
Much to the surprise of the Gators coaching staff, linebacker Jelani Jenkins has decided to leave Florida early for a chance at the NFL, a source close to the football team has confirmed Jenkins missed two games with a broken thumb this year and also was out for the Sugar Bowl after having surgery on his foot. Despite being told by the NFL he will not be selected in the first three rounds of the draft, Jenkins chose to put his name into the mix. http://www.gatorsports.com/article/...rsfootball?Title=Jenkins-jumping-to-NFL&tc=ar This player will be a bargain for anyone who drafts him in the middle rounds.
Now I'm hearing that Zach Ertz and Levine Toilolo seem likely to come out. Toilolo continues to interest me more. I don't know how a man that tall can play with that kind of pad level and move around like that. You wouldn't know it but he's as tall as Joe Fauria.
Espn's bottom line just said Ertz was coming out. Not sure if that makes it more confirmed than what you had already heard.
confirmed that Ertz is coming out... link http://www.mercurynews.com/stanford-cardinal/ci_22326680/stanfords-zach-ertz-enter-nfl-draft
Levine Toilolo, Stanford TE, is joining Ertz in leaving early. Benny Logan, Sam Montgomery, and Kiki Mingo, all LSU defensive linemen, are leaving early. Oklahoma WR Kenny Stills is going pro early, as is Oklahoma DB Tony Jefferson.
Tyler Eifert, ND TE, is going pro. Luke Joeckel, TAMU OT, is going pro. Terrence Brown, Stanford CB, is going pro.
January 8 (3:00 PM): Top OT to declare for draft … Texas A&M junior LT Luke Joeckel is expected to announce later this afternoon that he will be entering the 2013 draft where he is projected to be a top 5 pick. In fact, there is a chance that Joeckel could ultimately be the first player selected this coming April. The more interesting story at OT for the Aggies is what junior RT Jake Matthews opts to do. Matthews is also projected to be a first-round choice this year if he also leaves school this winter, however, there are reports that Matthews is seriously considering returning to school for his senior season with the intention of sliding over into Joeckel‘s LT slot and possibly becoming a top 5 pick himself in 2014. Stay tuned. (10:00 PM): Irish TE enters draft … Notre Dame junior TE Tyler Eifert confirmed after last night’s disappointing BCS national championship Bowl loss to Alabama that he will be entering the 2013 draft. Eifert, a potential first round pick, is projected to be the first player at the position off the this coming April. http://www.gbnreport.com/
No, I thought the same the other day. And that was before even more guys have declared. Colorado OL, David Bakhtiari, going pro. Cal cb, Steve Williams, is going pro.
I was thinking, maybe it has something to do with the rookie salary cap. Top end talent no longer have a chance for a HUGE payday. It makes less sense to not declare if you are thought of as a 3rd round pick, even if you could have a monster year and be a first round pick next year. or maybe this is thought of as a weak draft and juniors are trying to cash in.
To follow up on the more than normal idea, 2012 saw a record 65 underclassmen, which beat the previous year (which was a record) of 56. There is still a week left to declare or renounce I believe but we currently stand at 57 if I counted right.
Jeez. I don't think you can attribute this trend to the rookie wage scale or anything like that. But there's definitely a secular trend going on here. Most of these guys are not 1st round candidates. They're just leaving.
