So, I wanted to go back in time as it's been a busy week in free agency and review the big trades that happened late Monday into Tuesday as well as a couple of other notable trades. Give my opinion as that's what I do and some might even enjoy it. :shifty: Probably not Arizona or Denver...

Ah yes, the infamous Barrett Ruud trade that Gish will never let anyone forget... and how he's the best linebacker ever. Well he didn't say that.... yet... TB brings on Peters, whom I'm not really fond of so you can kinda tell where this is going, and at that whopping salary $10.5 million for the starting left tackle. I do think VO could have done better, maybe this was all Lucky's fault. I don't recall Ruud ever being put on the block, although maybe I missed it. Obviously if you feel Peters is a top 3 left tackle, then I can start to understand what happened here. TB loses Penn in free agency so the need is there. So Peters fills that need... However, couldn't TB have gone after another left tackle in free agency, one that would have cost less and still traded Ruud for value?

What, you didn't think I'd pass up an opportunity to talk about my own deal here did you? Normally when you trade three "starters" for one superstar, who has of course a higher cap, you start to think you overpaid. I don't think I did. Crowder is not a guy I like as a Dolfan. He takes horrible angles and is a liability in pass coverage. Hartline could be a solid #2, but with the addition of Jennings and Massaquoi, he's relegated to #4 behind Bess. Why not include him in the deal? And Donald Thomas. SUre everyone loves DT, but he lost his starting job last year due to performance (NOT due to injury) and while I have Smiley, Garner and my favorite Zuttah, there's really no room for DT at guard. No secret about Ryans and what he means to this Dolphins team. A vast improvement over Crowder and now that I have Thomas Howard to play ILB next to him, our third down and nickel defense is going to be something else with those two in the middle. Seems that the Dolphins last year were in nickel coverage 50 % of the time. I'm taking steps to help that unit especially.

I got to admit this one kinda blew me away. Dumerville for JUST a second!? Wow... and it's a late second at that. Truth be told, prior to the Ryans trade and Howard acquisition, I would have moved a higher second for Dumerville.

This trade had been announced a long time ago, yet had to wait until the start of free agency to go thru. I do think St. Louis slightly overpaid here. I like Carricker and Greco personally and think they should have stopped at that for Seymour.

This is actually a pretty fair trade. Like Collins and the Eagles gave up a good bit of value to obtain him in the form of a first round pick and a mid fourth. Packers wil be looking at safety in the draft if they haven't upgraded in FA yet (maybe they have, i'm too lazy to look at their team page).

Now the Broncos turn around and trade the pick they got in exchange for Dumerville to Dallas for Marion the Barbarian. So essentially it's Dumerville for Barber... yeah I don't like it for Denver. Sorry. JMHO. The Broncos have Knowshon Moreno. They have not upgraded at qb yet... Personally, I would have gotten more for Dumerville and used that value to upgrade the glaring hole at quarterback. Don't mean to pick on the Broncos new GM.. hard to come in and fill that seat midway thru the offseason.

Actually think this was fairly even. Tyson Jackson is a nice piece of the puzzle along the DL. McGahee gets some depth at RB. Morgan could be a nice safety in time. And you get rid of JPepp and his salary plus a third. Pretty close to even here I think.

I've got to admit... the Bears win this trade. Az... all your talk about getting fair value for Adrian Wilson and this is the best you could do? You really think you got first round value in return here? Adalius Thomas is turning 33 this year. I would put his value at a fourth at the highest. He really regressed the last couple of years for the Pats. Probably should have taken a mid 2nd rounder from me eh? :tongue2:

This one is closer for Denver although Jacksonville wins in the end. Marshall AND a first round pick... Lets say Marshall had first round value, pretty fair assessment. Mike Sims Walker? I would put at early second round Barwin of course second rounder last year, still a second round worth this year. The other Zach Miller and Jordan Black pretty much throw ins. Lets value them at a fifth round pick. And then Jax includes a third. So it's two firsts for two seconds a third and a fifth. Did I mention Denver was closer on this trade? Maybe I should reconsider that... :shifty:

Oh boy, Arizona is at it again... I'm going to use the draft value chart to grade this one...

Arizona gives up 787.5 points in draft picks, PLUS Karlos Dansby (everyones favorite player now) and receives 1,251.2 points. So to even it out, Karlos Dansby must be worth 463.7 points, right? That is the equivalent of the 43rd pick in the draft. Do you think someone can be drafted in the middle of the second round that is better than Karlos Dansby? Az, I'm sorry for getting Thomas Howard in FA... I know we had talked and you had asked for more than a mid second. :shifty: But since I signed Howard, my ILB package was complete.

Disclaimer - the opinions expressed in this post are the sole opinon of someone representing themselves out to be Paul 13. This should have no effect on whether you vote for Paul 13 as the GM of the year or not.

I thought the Ryans trade was straight up robbery. I mean you should have thrown in a 2nd rounder just out of goodwill paul.

As if the straight up trade chart means Jack Squat????

Seriously, I was DIRECTLY in the middle of cap hell. I asked for an olive branch, and you replied with nada.

Truth is, I shouldve jumped on your 2nd and 3rd, but I had Marshall AND a move up in the first round directly in the grasp...but I screwed the pooch.
Then SOMEBODY screwed me jumping bids on an DE....and I was screwed. I did what I had to, to continue my quest. Thats the way it works sometimes.

In the meantime, the draft is coming...but not soon enough :wink2:

EDIT: I still REALLY like the team I am going to present when this is done :shifty:... and we arent even to the draft yet :tongue2:

The Dumerville trade was made simply because of cap space, he was a transition player and was offered a 7M dollar deal I wasnt willing to let him go for free, so I matched it and then gave him the player he had won the bid on for the 55th because it was KILLING my cap at the moment. Marion Barber is a very physical RB, most of the players I have brought in are BIG guys and if you look at teh OL I have put together its probably the best OL in the league. I have a one two punch with Moreno and Barber that will just pound on people! Everything I have done is to make the Broncos what I want our Phins to be make them the team that it hurts to play against! QB situation is still ongoing, but it will get worked out!

When I made the Marshall deal I thought I had the other Zach Miller(Oaklands) I was unaware that there were two Zach Millers that played TE in teh NFL( I knew Oakland had traded him just didnt know where). So when I made the deal I was getting a 2nd round TE, a 2nd round rush LB, an up and coming WR with as you put it a 2nd round value, a backup OT, a 3rd and I cleared 3M in cap space.... So it was three 2's, one 3, and a 5, while clearing cap space.

    They have.

Props to Gish for working the trade horns. We needed a Safety badly and once we agreed it was a necessity on our Quest For Awesome he went forth and woe is he who stood in his way. The phone lines were smoted and a deal accomplished that both sides agreed with.

The safety position, as quoted somewhere by Jim Johnson, is what allows the Eagles to blitz relentlessly because if a linemen or linebacker makes a mistake they knew they had all-world Brian Dawkins lurking in the shadows. With Dawkins now (god knows where) and an unproven 'tweener in Macho Harris, who played respectably and is a good backup at this point, it was imperative that we brought in a vet for our aggressive defense.

Nick Collins fits that mold to a T. A young up-and-comer he will knock the ever loving **** out of you, or just pick your pass off instead.

Think that St. Louis trade with me was actually very fair. I didn't rape anyone like I normally do. I needed a free safety, a big name. Now, I think opinions will differ on Weddle, I like him, but he's never made the pro bowl. A 2nd round grade is fair, thus pick 48 in the draft is what I gave up. I managed to get Scott in the deal, for a fourth and a sixth. Pretty even... Had a little bit of a panic attack today in that I needed a free safety and the only way I was going to get one was via trade or in the draft. Now, in the draft, there's two free safeties graded highly. We all know who they are. I feel that both would have been gone by my 12th pick. So, would have had trade up to get one. That's too risky in my book. So, immediately looked around the league for teams that had a lot of depth at the position. St. Louis immediately came to mind because they do have a ton of safeties. Here we are. Nice dealing with ya Big E again.
