There is also a rumor he was talking about it on NFL 32 today..
Found this...''Chris Mortensen just said that Peyton Manning will not allow the drafting of Andrew Luck in Indianapolis and will demand to be traded or released if that happens.

I'll bet he'd allow them to trade the pick for a plethora of of other picks/players that could be added to help him.

Any team which ends up with the first overall pick and doesn't use it to draft Andrew Luck is run by morons. Or Jeff Ireland.
You draft the guy because he's a once-in-a-generation talent, period. I don't care if it's the Patriots—you draft Luck. And then you field offers for your QB, whoever that is, or you keep him as a bridge.muscle979, mi2cents, Ophinerated and 5 others like this. -
I'll bet Peyton Manning comes back and win a couple of games this season to tell Polian "This is MY TEAM!!"

I wasn't aware that Manning was the GM of the Colts. He is 35 years old and hasn't been able to play this season because of severe neck injuries. Whether he will ever be the QB he was before his injuries is still a big question mark. Manning is merely a player on the Colts and like every other great player who eventually grew old and had to be replaced, Manning will soon have to be replaced as the franchise QB of the Colts. The owner Jim Irsay, and the GM Bill Polian will do what is best for the future of the Colts and they will not care what Manning wants. If the Colts end up with the first pick in the 2012 draft. I expect they will draft Luck and Manning will just have to take his $24,000,000 roster bonus he is due in March 2012 and live with it.

How would Manning demanding a trade prevent them from drafting Luck??? Manning has 0 leverage in this situation.

Peyton Manning reminds me of another selfish QB who thought he owned his team, the NFL, and the world. Favre. Manning IS getting old. He's got to realize he needs someone behind him to be prepared to step in. That being said, I hope the Colts abide by the law that Manning is laying down. After all, he is the Colts...right?

Maybe you've heard of him. In fact, I would say Jesus wasn't as good throwing out of the pocket as Luck.Pagan, aesop, Clark Kent and 1 other person like this. -
That was the commentators opinion.Payton did not say that.In fact I understand Payton has a good relationship with Luck .
Ultimately it will be a decision of the Colts front office. -
Fans over there are pretty loyal to their good players. I can't imagine they'd like it if Manning were put in that spot. For those considering a Favre comparison, Favre was hit or miss on retirement teetering back and forth all the time. Manning isn't in the same situation.

Doesn't really change my opinion on anything. If the Cols get the first pick and don't draft Luck then they'll probably trade the pick and I don't like our chances of getting it. I know it's hard to say because we don't know who the new GM will be, but even with an aggressive GM we will still be bidding with other teams. That and as touted as Luck is, there is a point where the price tag is too much, in my opinion. If this scenario plays out it does increase our chances some but not enough to get me really excited.

Who would trade up for him?
- St. Louis won't.
- Cleveland probably has enough but does he want to play there?
- Seattle would probably be happy with Barkley and it's tough for them to trade up.
- K.C. is doing well now.
- Jax is starting to win games and they may get out of range.
- Arizona just spent quite a bit on Kolb.
Who is this big threat to Miami that will trade up out of the darkness and grab Luck out of sight, besides we can always compete. -
-
-
1. Indianapolis Colts (0-7)
2. St. Louis Rams (0-6)
3. Miami Dolphins (0-6)
4. Minnesota Vikings (1-6)
5. Arizona Cardinals (1-5)
6. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-5)
7. Carolina Panthers (2-5)
8. Seattle Seahawks (2-4)
9. Philadelphia Eagles (2-4)
10. Denver Broncos (2-4)
St. Louis will probably want Matt Kalil so how far can they honestly go down. Same goes for Indy. Coples or Kalil is their guy. Denver from all the way at ten to the number one? It's hard to fathom. They'd have to trade a lot to do it.
The worst-case scenario for Miami is finishing third and St. Louis trades Luck away while Indy trades with Seattle for Barkley. Then Miami will be left with Landry Jones. -
If that happens so be it. I'm not scared of a scenario with Matt Barkley if he declares. The only thing I'd be scared of is if St. Louis finishes 1, Indy 2.
-
I can see Denver giving up a whole draft or two for Luck.

These ****tard reporters are throwing fish guts in the water and selling it to all of you as bluefin. What a CF this is gonna be until draft day.

Yes, Luck is a great QB prospect, and just about any sane Dolphin fan wants him in aqua and orange. Fact remains he's still a PROSPECT. A team like the Colts are not going to risk making Peyton Manning walk to draft a PROSPECT. You know the old saying about a bird in the hand?
They would however, trade the pick for a king's ransom and maybe draft a QB who would not be a threat to Peyton Manning's starting job to develop. -
The question is this: Why would the Colts not trade from 1 to 3 (where we would currently be picking for a say a 3 and 5 this year and a 3 next year allowing them to load up on a final 3 year run with Manning? They can select the premier defensive player available (probably Coples) and restock a lot of positions that frankly need help. The colts could very easily win 1 of the next three, maybe 2 of the next three super bowls and still use one of those picks on a QB to groom. If say a Robert Griffith or a Ryan Tannehill is there in round two they get the help they need now and a very good Qb prospect to groom under Manning for 3 yearsBlameItOnTheHenne likes this. -
Am I the only one who feels this is completely out of character for Manning? I've never heard this type of stuff about him before. Maybe that's part of his carefully controlled image, but I don't envision him selfish enough to handcuff the team from trying to improve.
I get wanting them to get him more weapons ... but this team has had holes for several years and his absence has simply served to highlight them.
Just seems like strange timing to me. Maybe Manning is trying to fire the team up or something. Or he's prepping for an early return. -
-
Manning thinks he has 5 plus years left he wants the best team put around him it makes no sense for them to draft luck unless they plan on getting more picks out of it.

If Joe Montana and Brett Favre can be traded at the end of their career, then so can Peyton Manning. Colts would stupid to pass on him, you can try to take advantage of a closing window with an aging QB, or just extend the window using the next once in a generation QB prospect.
I wouldn't be surprised either way, but as concerns Luck, I believe if we don't have the #1 overall pick, we don't have Andrew Luck. -
A neck injury is no joke; Manning may never play again. And if he does, he's one wrong hit from damage that could include paralysis, or at least nerve damage. He has to know that better than any of us. I mean, the guy went to Europe for experimental stem cell therapy...you don't do that for a stinger.
So no, I would not trade for him.Aquafin likes this. -
moving up 1 or 2 spots to take Luck will cost a minimum of a 2013 1st and a 3rd this year. Probably a 2nd this year, 1st and 3rd next year. -
