Assuming his asking price isn't too high? Lol, of course it will be... but he's well worth it and significantly improves this defense and team as a whole. Karlos Dansby is someone you overpay to add to your organization if you have the opportunity to, especially when the next available group at that position is not nearly as productive.
I thought you were only allowed to apply the tag twice to one player? I would love to have him. Hope his asking price is not to high.
We will find out in 2 weeks if this team is serious about being contenders.Sign dansby and if bryant and berry go before us in the draft trade down.I would go after the best player on the board at this point.
Dansby and Brandon Graham in the first round. Maybe Brandon Spikes in the 2nd. Cam Thomas in the 3rd. That's a front 7 with teeth!
Whatever. It. Takes. Seriously, you could argue signing Dansby alone, makes us the favorites in the AFC East. OK, we would still need an WR and some Safedty help, but Dansby would be a monster in the middle and would make Channing Crowder better too. Please, let this happen.
Its up to the front office to make it happen,if they do not sign him I will lose faith in them.Like everybody else i am sick of this long drought where we have to see the saints ,bucs, ravens etc win superbowls this past decade and we have not even been too the afc championship. No excuses we have no salary cap make it happen!
Not hardly. Even with Dansby, this defense has a long way to go before this team is ready to legitimately compete for a championship. Miami will still need another inside linebacker to replace Crowder. They will possibly need two outside linebackers to replace Joey Porter and Jason Taylor. Basically, the entire linebacking core needs to be overhauled. Miami could use another good young safety to go along with Chris Clemons. They could also use another young nose tackle to play in rotation with Paul Soliai.
I wouldn't go that far. We'd still need a WR and a FS as well as a second NT. We could get by for a year with our OLBs as I expect JT to be re-signed and Wake to excell in Nolan's defense. The thing is that in a passing league ILBs only have so much impact. As much as I like Dansby, he can't fix it all. We need to fix our ability to pass and stop the pass.
This was "new" news when posted. It is widely known that Dansby is a FA, but the Cards still had the option of placing the tag on him. This simply confirms that they will not use the tag on him this year (for obvious reasons). This opens the door for teams to make a run at him without giving up picks in the process. Maybe the Cards are rolling the dice to see his "market value" and then offer a contract? I don't know. He had the non-exclusive tag placed on him last year, giving him the right to negotiate with other teams (and the Cards the right to match if they decide). If they did not, they are awarded (2) 1st round picks. I know that a player can be franchised three years in a row, but I do not know the designation. Regardless, Dansby's salary would have been HUGE. Hence, the Cards letting him hit the FA market. It's kind of a big deal for teams looking into his services.....
I agree with what both you and rafael said as far as other areas we need to address. But I still don't think it's a stretch to say the Phins would AFCE favorites with a Dansby signing. But that is more of an indictment of the other 3 teams, not a reflection of how great the Dolphins are.
would be the ILB we need however we will battle this one out w/ the Giants get what you pay for, hopefully. wherever he winds up, won't be cheap
We don't need to field a team of All-Pros you know... One player can make his whole team look better... Patrick Willis and Ray Lewis are two guys that I can think of off the top of my head.
You don't need a team full of All Pros, but you do need 11 men on each side of the ball that are at least competent. Miami's linebackers overall are not competent. They have one young guy with potential and that's it.
"If Ya Wanna Get To Heaven, Ya Gotta Raise A Little Hell." Wake, Davis, and Starks are HELL RAISERS. Dansby, Smith, and Langford may be.
It's amazing how adding one player to the mix can actually make everyone better. I disagree with the idea that our players on defense are not competent. They are just not good enough to carry a team.
I don't believe we're that far away. I still think young proven veterans are worth the price. If we build right through free agency and draft, and stay healthy, the sky is the limit. If we were healthy in 2009 we would of replaced the Jets in the AFCC game. Just my opinion.
