In reaction to Steve Wyche’s story uncovering of details surrounding Mike Nolan’s jump from Denver to Miami, a few media outlets have already begun speculating as to whether or not the...

always has to be someone to piss on a parade. Not saying you...just saying in general.
This right here clears of any tampering:
"There is no acrimony between Nolan and Broncos coach Josh McDaniels. The Dolphins sent the Broncos a written request to interview Nolan. McDaniels approached Nolan with the request and, in a nutshell, asked him if he’d rather be in Miami or Denver. Nolan said he would like to interview with the Dolphins. McDaniels then granted Nolan permission and wished him well."

I was wondering when this type of thing was going to come around. If they can prove it, fine... I still like the hire.
-
Yeah, I saw that.
So were the Groh and Keith Butler interviews facades?
IF Miami did indeed "tamper", this is nothing new to the NFL. I am sure that the NFL will investigate, and if they come up with something, we'll know. It's a cutthroat business, though. Would hate for Miami to lose a 4th.... -

As mentioned in the article, the opposite is just as easily true.
Notoriously cynical PFT has something pretty much accusing the Phins of tampering. Just apply converse logic and you can be just as snarky in reply. :)
IMO, Nolan probably had his people reach out first. Miami responded with an official request, thereby forcing the issue. The team had no way of knowing whether Denver would let him go. He was under contract. All Denver had to say was "No" and the case would be closed.dolfan7171, dolphindebby, gafinfan and 2 others like this. -
New England can just as easily accuse Denver of tampering after Dean Pees walked as well.
Only surprised Florio took this long to throw out the "T" word. He despises Parcells so it was a matter of time.
Expect the bottom feeders in the Miami press to follow tomorrow. They were so happy to see the Dolphins brass twisting in the wind a couple of days ago only to have Nolan of all people take over the DC job. Skolnick already sounds p.o.'d on Twitter. -
can the nfl start an investigation on this on their own and would Denver have to be part of the process if they choose to be. -
This is such a load of Bull, Go **** yourself Florio.

This whole situation is stupid. To be honest, if we are caught with tampering i wont be very happy with our front office because thats something they should not be messing around with. However, im assuming as of now this is not the case and that the media is blowing this up into something much bigger than it is.

partially viable media outlet that loves to throw stuff at the wall
did we not expect this :shifty:
i really dont care until the nfl makes a statement -
Did the Dolphins Tamper with Mike Nolan?
From the front page, this is my take on the issue, conaspiracy theory abound...let me know what you think!
I think Parcells and company had already spoken with Nolan and knew he would come here before firing PP. So once the plan is in place they fire PP then attempt to interview Crenell due to the Rooney rule that doesn't work out, perhaps Crenell knew what the real deal was and declined the interview?
So in the meantime we interview Al Groh to make everything seem legit all the while trying to find another candidate to satisfy the Rooney rule, in comes Butler from Pittsburgh. So now finally we satisfy the Rooney rule and whammo we send out a request to Denver to interview Nolan as Assistant HC/ Defensive Coordinator (A loophole to steal coordinators from other teams essentially because it is a promotion). McDaniels has no choice because Nolan want's to come here and he knows this so he grants permission and poof we have our new DC.
It's pretty late and i've had a few beers so perhaps that is why this makes so much sense to me right now or perhaps not... was interested in you guys opinion on the theory though. Also still really curious about the consequences of Tampering charges if they are brought forth what happens? -

Todd Bowles holds the Assistant HC title so I'm pretty sure Nolan is strictly DC.
I thought Mike Florio's writeup was pretty decent...
Truth be told yes we probably tampered...but EVERY team tampers especially at this time of the year. Its not really that big of a deal to anyone but Mike Florio.Larry Little likes this. -
I say let's tamper with Brandon Marshall while we're at it....... :shifty:

Though your conspiracy is fun, I see too many holes and too many dominos that had to fall. Bowles is already Asst HC. I don't think a promotions have anything to do with it unless it is interviewing for a HC. And I don't think the Rooney Rule affects asst coaches. OTOH, I tend to believe that it is the simpleist solution. We part ways with PP because we think it is the right thing to do. We try to interview Romeo but he is set at reuniting with Pioli, Haley and Weis, so he says no. We interview Butler because we like him, but he decides he is the heir apparent to Dick L. so he'd rather have that job in a year (same organization, same city). The we interview Groh and decide he isnt the one so we don't offer him a job. However, Parcells did like Nolan and hears everything within the NFL and knows that Nolan and Josh McD don't have a great relationship. Its not poor, but tepid at best. They send a letter to the Donks. Josh talks to Nolan and they reach an agreement. Nolan would rather be reunited with Parcells and thinks Miami is a better fit and Josh would rather have someone that is 100% in sync with his defensive philosophies and Pees is on the market. That's my take anyway. Did we talk to him before? Maybe. Is it possible to get a deal done in 24 hours? Sure, especially if both sides are motivated. Just my take.

To me the rules regarding Tampering are about as dumb as the Rooney Rule....you understand what the NFL is trying to do but they create a lot of rules which just make things worse...kind of like the Brady Tuck Rule and the Brady No-Hitting-Qb's-in-the-legs- rule. If a team wants a certain person as their coach or DC/OC etc., why should the NFL dictate who they can or cant hire????
Also in reagrds to the first post....I don't believe the Rooney Rule applies to anything but Head Coaching interviews.....you don't have to interview minorities for the OC/DC and other positions. -
Its just as easy to say that Denver wanted to "move" Nolan so they could get Pees on board so McDaniels talks to Billy boy who lets Pees walk and then calls Tuna to let him know that Nolan could be had if he would only ask for an interview. Now everyone is happy until Mike Flojo comes along and wants to sell more paper; btw he could make up a CT out of thin air if he tried hard enough! What more would you expect from an X shyster!

tampering, what exactly would that involve?
is it illegal? and if it is:
would our FrontOffice walk the fine line between compliance & improvisation?
did they get caught doing something wrong? because if they didn't,
if no one can prove anything than it's not tampering, now is it?
once again we win. much to do about nothing...
:omg:
just so much banter, idle banter.
we now have a top, very experienced, accomplished NFL Coach to run the Defense
(no one knows but the FrontOffice & Nolan, they
would never admit to anything, now would they?) -
Personally I hope they did, whatever it takes to get their man......It is known that the other teams requested interviews as well...most likely the Pats, who have a need at DC....whatever it takes....I hope they tampered with Brandon Marshall too at that practice he was at last month, the same one that Parcells was at...

Keep drinking and forget this 'theory'... first, if Nolan was the guy they targeted before they fired PP, why did it take a week ?? The request to interview Nolan was a day before we interviewed him, not a week ?? Second, there are conflicting reports abounding about McKid and Nolan's relationship. The latest seems to indicate that McKid was telling Nolan how he wanted the D to operate. Third, as I mentioned above, the timing just doesn't support a conspiracy for Nolan to "get out of Denver" (in my best Bob Seger imitation)... The chance that Nolan would not be given an opportunity to interview from the Broncs definitely negates the theory that they 'knew' he'd be available, unless McKid did the 'tampering' by letting his old pal The Tuna know. Either way, the firing of PP couldn't have had anything to do with who is/might be available. Good NFL FOs don't do business in a 'might be' mode. They let go of PP because he didn't perform the way they wanted him to. Conversely, Nolan was let go by Denver because he didn't perform the way they wanted him to. Who's right and who's wrong is yet to be determined... -

Too much is made of 'tampering' as it is. Denver released Nolan, not the Tuna or the Fins organization...how does that indicate that we 'tampered' in any way ?? Nolan could have turned us down and looked at several other clubs looking for a DC if he chose, but he chose to come here...it's pretty simple and straight-forward...not some trumped up conspiracy theory.. -
