I'm think you may be overstated the "fail to learn the playbook" stuff. Failing to learn the Patriots offense as a WR is analogous to failing a as a chemistry major at Harvard. It doesn't really get more intricate and nuanced for a WR than playing in that offense. There are a lot of WRs that are very productive in the NFL that won't succeed in that offense.
I think the team and coach's would be ok with telling him wear to line up if he had the production that he had in Cincy. I sadly just dont think he is the player that he used to be. Then again, Chad Johnson at 75% could very well be better than anybody we have at this point. He gets the diva rap, but he's actually a good guy and very fan interactive. I think he could possibly be great for the franchise.
http://m.nfl.com/news/09000d5d829ba731/ochocinco-feeling-good-about-level-of-interest-from-dolphins/ Means nothing but here it is.
He got on the field for 354 plays and managed an 18.0 YPC average. His lack of production is tied to not knowing the offense at a level brady felt comfortable with. I think Ocho has something left to offer this team and I think signing him would be a good thing and a bad thing. On the one hand his stats show that at 18YPC he can still do something when he gets the ball. Thats nothing to sneeze at. On the other hand signing him means one less unproven guy makes the team. Is Chad hungrier to prove he still has it then say a Marlon Moore or a Derek Moore or a BJ Cunningham? If he earns his way on to the team based on merit thats good. If Chad Johnson makes the team based on reputation thats bad...very bad.
In the FWIW category, Chad's PFF rating was better than any Miami receiver last season. He was rated at -0.2 and 51st overall. Marshall was -0.5 and 54th Hartline was -2.4 and 67th Bess was -6.5 and 94th. He was tied for 8th in the league with 18.4 yds per catch. He was thrown at 31 times and had 1 dropped pass. Just looking at things from the glass half full side of things. I'm really not a big proponent of signing Chad, although if we do, I trust that Ireland and Coach Joe have a better handle on things than I do, or any other fan for that matter.
Whether you think Davis deserved it or not, throwing a football in your teammates face is making trouble. Don't care if he's a diva. That means he's producing probably. Steve Smith is a diva. An angry one. How many of you wouldn't have wanted him here. he could pose for playgirl for all I give a freak.According to the reports the team and teammates loved having Chad around last year.
Volin says Ocho has already worked out... http://tracking.si.com/2012/06/11/dolphins-confirm-chad-ochocinco-workout/
I'm not against signing Chad. In fact I'm 100% for it. This WR corps needs and influx of talent. I'm just saying I find it odd to trade away Marshall only to turn around and sign Chad Johnson.
@JasonLaCanfora MIA talking contract w/Ochocinco. Deal could get done in short order. Continues to look like this one will come together
Big difference though in financial commitment between the 2 of them. Chad will probably sign a 1 yr deal for less than $2mil. I'd be shocked if it were much higher or multi-year.
That and as you pointed out, he was more productive last yr then any wr on our roster! Donald Driver had good success in this style of offense and Johnson has been healthier then Driver.
Still good numbers and numbers I would like out of my number 2WR. You are very conveniently forgetting that T.O. was opposite him in 2010 and was the primary. Wouldn't expect anything less from you, tattoos and all.
Hartline injury could be worse than they're alluding to. Never thought I'd say this but, the closer it gets the more I.....well......like it.
I don't love this but wouldn't mind it. He'd get a chance to maybe have a great year. And if he doesn't, it doesn't really hurt, and shouldn't cost much. I'm thinking he won't be anything special since he didn't work in NE, but whatever.
Awesome, nice to have a veteran receiver on the team. I hope he works better in our offensive system than he did in N.E.
great addition to the team. It's a building process, and we all said we needed receivers. Chad still has some left in the tank and I for one am excited about the signing. Tanny to Ocho all day long...........
ESPN is in on it too.. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8040077/chad-ochocinco-miami-dolphins-agree-1-year-deal
does the west coast have many option routes that seemed to be his undoing in NE hes a good route runner but he had a hard time learning whole option concept. I think he could put up ok numbers his legs aren't as shot as people think he really got no play time last year because he couldn't learn the offense.
If you would have told me a year ago we'd be hearing Garrard to Ocho Cinco come fall, I'd call you a troll and not apologize.
Gotta start somewhere. If Garrard and Ocho Cinco are what we've got, let's go. Build from there. Ocho Cinco is going to be the face of the franchise on Hard Knocks. He'll clown around and instigate all kinds of stuff on camera. It's going to be a hoot. Can't wait. If on top of that he performs on the field after getting all that notoriety, I really can't wait. And by the way, his girlfriend is at least as hot as Tannehill's wife.
