damn that would suck if he stays in. while I can live with RGIII, I really hope we have options in the top 10.
was about to post this. SUC fans on the scout board think he's staying too. Reasons to stay -Heisman -National Champs -Young Team returning(esp. WRs Woods/Lee) -Bowl Eligible -#1 pick in 2013
I am just going to keep posting pro's and con's....below is what I have been saying, under the new CBA the money isnt an issue as it used to be....again Bradford got 50M guaranteed under the old CBA, Cam under the new one got mid-20's...
His LT already left, unless he cares about the Rose Bowl/possible NC that much, no real reason to stay. However, if he doesn't come out, our options become much more limited, and the Luck pick becomes even more valuable if STL does actually manage to snatch it from Indy.
Trying to remain positive here so I agree...plus if Barkley stays in school, it makes Miami's chance of landing RGIII really hard you would have agruabily at that point 4-5 teams vying for him..... Miami would just pick out, or trade down and get T-Hill or Weeden at that point....
Without Barkley, it definitely moves Tanny and Weeden up. also, Barkely being out could create a domino effect and launch a guy like Osweiler into the draft. He is probably a 2nd round prospect right now, and would likely move into the first with a good combine, etc. He also doesn;t necessarily fit Graham's style so we'll see.
One thing about the money, though, if he waits a year, that's one less year in his life where he'll be earning millions. I mean, if he's as good as he seems, it won't matter, he'll make more $$ than he needs anyways, but it may be one reason for him to come out. Not to mention, the risk of injury, which would kill it all. Hey, if he goes back, we deal. It's his life, what can we do, really? It sucks for us, but so be it, it wasn't meant to be.
I think he stays based on the fact that there's a press conference at USC and that USC announced it first. Hope I'm wrong...
Don't think that matters. Same thing happened with Sanchez. He had it at USC, USC announced it and Pete Carroll was there fuming abd basically told him at the press conference that he wasn't ready and was making a mistake. Maybe Pete was right, lol
This reminds me of Tebow's Press Conference. I get the feeling he is staying as well, otherwise I think he would just make his intentions known.
I REALLY want the Colts to win tonight! The odds of the Rams trading that pick at #1 are significantly better than the Colts... This could be a great day (if Barkley comes out and Indy wins) or it could be one of the worst days of the year...
Oh come on. What if he blows next year and we're stuck in a Fitzpatrick situation? I can't believe what I'm hearing from you Aqua
Well, what do they say again? When god closes a door, he opens a window? Or is that when god closes a door, he slams it hard on your junk? Something like that.
Why should he even take an extension now, if he really thinks he is a long term starter, unless he gets Kyle Orton or Fitz money, which is approximately $9 mill per year? This is exactly what happened to Cleveland after Anderson's 2007. Just let it play out. If Moore leads us to a SB victory next year then franchise him.
Based on what? It makes no sense to extend MMoore atm, unless it is a sneaky play to limit his contract number, otherwise just let him compete. If he starts in 2012, and has a great yr, there are all manner of ways to retain his services, no need to go all in based on a 12 gm tryout.
Maybe I am a homer...Well what I mean is maybe I am being a homer when I think that Barkley is projected here would assist his decision. So Cal boy loves the sun, Qb legacy but fan base hungry for a top Qb, and a team that has shown that is only a few pieces away from being very good. I still would trade 3 1st and 2 2nds for Luck. Its the "going rate" based on histroy but we have only a few other holes and could fill some in FA.
The contract he signed this past August was two years, $5m. So he's under contract for 2012. I think you could extend him now though for less than what you could extend him for next season (assuming he continues to improve). So I agree...
Oh sure, no need to pay him large $$$, to many ways to keep him without doing so, and I'd think he'd sign for under mkt anyway if he has a big 2012. What he does do is reduce the need to sell everything to trade up for a Qb prospect Here is how I see things playing out: -Colts take Luck -Rams ask for a Luck like bounty for their #2 pick because it is in effect, the #1 overall, if Barkley stays that plan will fail though -Browns will take Barkley if he comes out, if not they stand pat and take RG3 at #4 or so -Dolphins wind up picking #11 overall #11 is outside of the prime Qb prospect zone, and there will be no one interested in trading up with us as any move we make to move up, the Browns can counter with that extra #1 pick, IF they love RG3. Strategically, we are kind of screwed if Barkley stays in school.
Yeah, only that. And that they're out a franchise QB after they thought they had one based on a 7 game stretch of really good play. Boy, that sounds familiar...
Doesn't matter though Aqua, if he continues to play well we had 2 yrs of his play for the cheap price of 2.5 millie per yr, if he does well we only have to pay going mkt rate to sign him, in effect we pay him what he would be worth at that point. If he stinks in 2012, or is injured, then we are not in a bad situation as we are not tied to him. So basically we hold all of the leverage either way.
I think we should keep this a Matt Barkley thread until his announcement...mainly for selfish reasons because I don't have access to twitter and I don't know when his press conference and so I know I'll keep checking the thread looking for his announcement and I'd rather not fish through a slop of Matt Moore debate, lol.
