Damn. Bell was one of my favourite players. A captain, a hard-hitter and a consistent force in an inconsistent secondary.

 

Dont make it right or logical though. Im sick of hearing Cap space especially when we are signing no-one.

I loved me some Bell, it was such a shame he came into the league so late because if he came in when he was 22, would would still have a Pro-Bowl caliber SS for the next 4 years...

I agree about Jones. He was decent (a very loose term) against the pass; in a sense that he was better than the typical SS, but worse than a typical FS. That being said he has great instincts and can tackle incredibly well. Him and Marshall back there will make for a much improved Safety unit, especially in the pass. We will now be able to run a lot of different overages back there and mix things up a bit. Could be hard for QB's we face in the future.

 

Not surprised. We might see him getting resigned to a more appropriate deal just as Will Allen was. He was about to make double of what he should have, and that's what usually gets you released.

It would be nice to see Jones and Marshall provide some stability and consistency to the Safety position which we have lacked for some time. Not have to spend a draft pick. If we can sign Anderson to fill the DE hole, and then draft the MLB out of BC with our first pick then pick up weeden in the 2nd and spend the 3rd's we have on some WR's I think we will be looking at a pretty solid offseason that filled some holes.

I am not a big fan of Bell, but I would take him over Jones any day of the week. Jones is not a quality safety in the NFL by a long shot. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the Dolphins don't draft a safety and Jones ends up back on special teams next season.

 

It should be obvious why the Dolphins need cap space. It is because Ireland has done such a wonderful job of spending all his salary cap money over the last three season putting together a team that has gone 20-28 over that time period. He should be so proud of himself.
