The most cerebral and hardest working and most prepared SOB ever to play linebacker.
He didn't have to play for money. His family is in the oil business in Texas.
He played because he loves the game. Nonstop motor. Biggest heart.
The ultimate character guy. First, the Ring of Honor. Then Coach Thomas.

He said he wants to coach a HS team if he can..or work on the radio (but he said he's too emotional for that) ..

Honestly, I think he's just nervous.

    He's not doing it anymore.

Zach talked about his year in Dallas.

He could see the players this regime brought in while they were there.

Says he sees the same thing here. And that when they ultimately get everything in place, we've got a chance.

Believe it or not, Zach Thomas's nervous sweat drops just made our present ILB corps a little better. #54 Owns.

Btw, he wasn't shaking, it was the rest of the world shaking and so it seemed that way to us.

We're basically the same age and I became a Dolfan like the year before he was drafted. Growing up I was a Dallas Cowboys fan... JJ came to Miami, my wife was from Miami and I had taken a couple years off of football. Starting watching the Dolphins and was instantly an addict. Then Shula retired and JJ came in and I was like, "wha?", the Dolphins logo was redone and Zach got drafted. Immediately he was my favorite player and from his first game you could see he was gonna be something special!

I had a REAL hard time watching him leave the Dolphins. Twelve years of rooting for a guy and BAM he was gone! I really think he would've endeared himself to this regime if not for there rediculous size restrictions but I'll always appreciate watching 54 out there for twelve years...

Can you imagine if Dan or Zach or both would've been on this team??? WOW!

    ZACH ATTACK!!!

I think that's pretty much a lock. No worries there.

They asked him about the Hall of Fame.

Zach said he'd love just to be in the discussion. Even if they said, "Zach Thomas? Hell naw!". "At least they're talking about you!".

He said that he's not worried about it. That he'd be honored, but that kind of thing doesn't determine his self-worth. He knows he gave everything he had.

He's a prideful guy, and proud of what his defense accomplished. Even though it didn't come together with a title, he said the stats don't lie and they were a damn good group.

Zach said he knows he still has it mentally. But his body ultimately failed him. Had nothing left. And he's really happy in post-football life.

He looked over at his wife and infant son and said, "It happened at the right time".

"I want to be a better husband. I want to be a better father."

Talked about the nights he didn't come home, alluding to how many hours he put into preparation during the week.

"After 5 PM, that's where I was better than everybody else"

To me, I don't even think it was that.

I think it was the fact that he was 35 (that's what they told him), had a decent price tag and his body had begun breaking down a bit. He'd missed almost all of the previous year with the concussion problems. Sure, size didn't help. But I think that was further down the list.

If Parcells had come aboard while he was in his prime, I think they'd have been hard pressed to get that guy out of there. Remember how physical he was in 2006? I think they'd have gotten that from him too. Maybe you're right and they would have just traded him. Who knows!

At any rate, I'm glad he's 'home' again and everything has been made right with the cosmos.

I've been around a while longer, and he'd have to climb over guys like Nitzchke, Bednarik, Butkus, Curtis, Schmidt, after the lesser lights of Ray Lewis and London Fletcher. That, as good as Thomas was, is not very likely. He is in the conversation with them, but not better than they were.

Class guy, and a true Miami Dolphin. I hate that it's over.

ummm, I think it has as much to do with the player formalizing his desire to retire. A two way street.:wink2:

I miss that man playing for my beloved Dolphins. Easily my all-time favorite defensive player. Grew up watching him from his rookie year to his last game. He will be missed.

You're kidding right? There was nothing for them to learn from and they will continue as they have. It wont be long before the fans will be in an uproar again because of some perceived misstep by the FO.

Finally saw the PC at Aquavision. Very emotional for me, and yes my eyes welled up more than once.

Love ya Zach, hopefully one day we'll see you in the RoH and also in Canton. That will be a lot like the day Marino went in. It will be a sea of Aqua in the stands for that one.

I'm sure it took a little longer than the two minutes that Zach said it took for JI to call back. Coach and JI both looked and sounded genuine when talking about Zach too. I think as fans we often forget that this is a business and sometimes hard decisions have to be made. George stated earlier he thought this regime just came in too late for them to take a chance with ZT and the tough decision to cut him was made. I don't care about any of this business about weather the organization slighted him after his release, he was still an active player...right or wrong. What I care about is today forward. They gladly brought him back at his request to retire a Miami Dolphin. He had his goodbyes. He had his retirement. I'm sure he will get his place in the ring.

God Bless you Zach Thomas. Thank you for all the outstanding memories...

WOW...what a way to see him go. He's leaving with great respect and dignity. The intros from Ireland and Sparano were fitting and when Zach spoke I got a bit choked up. What a Dolphin legend! The way he played was how it should be played and he was so old school because he always made it about the game. He read the field/offense like no other and flew around smashing the snot out of running backs. I'll also never forget him covering players deep down the field almost like a corner. I wish him all the best and hope he coaches the Fins one day. Thanks for the memories Zach. Don't worry about not getting us a title...we witnessed true heart.
