:lol:OMG, Kenny! As I'm sitting here reading your post NCIS is coming on the USA Network and Zonks head (your avatar) is keeping time with the music.

To your post; I don't think Gator Nation will have a very hard time getting a successful coach. Kyle Wittingham comes to mind. He apprenticed under Urban and has been very successful. Should get him outta your hair too.

    wish him all the best

    but...

this means UM is in prime position to take the mantle as the top team in FL once again, for this upcoming decade, barring Randy Shannon somehow screwing it up or plain ol' bad luck. My Noles are going to take a few years to straighten themselves out, unfortantely. But I can deal with the Canes being on top more so than the Gators, whom I cannot for the life of me, root for.

i wish him, and his family well... he has high school aged daughters. and he has done about as much in coaching as a guy can in 5 years, go take care of what really matters. without your health, nothing else matters.

as for Spurrier, that ain't gonna happen. but hey, as a Gamecock fan, maybe Steve'll be ready to retire about the same time Urban is ready to return and Urban moves on up to Columbia, SC.

yeah, i know, that ain't gonna happen either.

This has been building for a while and it is IMHO a combination of things...the Culpeppers, Duda's Lykes, and Griffith's of the world do not like him at all and are embarrassed by some of the goings on, only some of which we get to be privy to, he knows it and they are not going to put up with his crap if he losses, Foley has supported him to the Bull Gators who will not in general support him in any slight downturn, he is not welcome there by the alums and ...there is indeed some stress issues but that is nothing new. most people have known about that for a while unless something more serious is revealed tomorrow that is a lot more serious and a lot less common knowledge than is the generally talk.

i have been calling this and hearing this is possible for a while now and not really surprised....now I can root for the Gators again without this *** as an inconvenience...good riddance.

After re-reading my own post through yours, I realize how bad I mustve come across.
I am completely neutral in regards to the Gators, but truth is , I know Meyer as a Ute coach.....and of course have nothing but admiration and respect for him.
If it is serious, I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

M2C, I know from previous post you don't hold UM in high regards. I would be very interested in hearing more. pm me if you care to share what you have heard. I'm only 40 miles east of Gainesville, deep in the heart of Gator Country. Honestly, I haven't heard any of what you say and there are more than a few BullGators here.

College football is dead. You don't step down unless you are anticipating somethkg negative. UF has been pushing the envelope for years now. I'm not surprised at all to see the coach step down.

Lots of people not liking Urbes right now. Rapid success has a way of doing that to a person. I'm a Gator Fan. I personally didn't like Spurrier. He is truly a turd personality wise. We didn't run in the same circles  and was a very good coach, so that didn't matter to me. I know nothing about UM other than what filters down through the news. I took no offense from your post.

they also mentioned a heart valve problem .... those are easy to fix now-a-days ... my son-in-law had his replaced a few months ago - and he was back to work in a month without limitation.

that would potentially help with his high blood pressure, maybe headaches, et al .... he'd be ready to go by summer time ......

wish him well - but he did inherit a good program, with great personnel - so while i won't credit him with 'building' the Gators to what they are .... he does still get credit for what he accomplished during his tenure.

wish him well .... now Saban is going to 'own' the SEC for a couple years ....

I don't remember if you're a gators fan or not, but it amuses me that every gator fan during the season seemed to say "Ohhh, Charlie Strong deserves to be a head coach", but when the Florida job comes open, you don't hear many people calling for him.

Everyone agrees he deserves a shot at a Head Coaching job but usually you have to earn your opportunities as an entry level head coach at a average college program before you get a shot at a Head coaching job at a top 10 NCAA program. The Louisville job would be his first HC experience.

Even Urban Meyer had to pay his dues and demonstrate a successful trajectory as a HC at Bowling Green and Utah before being considered for the Florida job.

Smart is what you call it!

A big time college football program is no place to experiment with social engineering. Charlie Strong has never been a Head Coach. He's a fine person and excellent Defensive Coordinator. let him make his bones as a head coach at a lesser program, if he does ok, his time in the big leagues will come.

It's all about winning and $$$$$. You just don't turn that over to a rookie head coach. You know that, and were you in the same position as those being paid to make those choices, you wouldn't do it either.

So why aren't people calling Meyer a liar, and the devil, etc, etc like they did with Saban?

Meyer said he was resigning, and then he changed his mind and is now just taking a leave of absence (he may leave anyway).

Sure sounds like what Saban did: said one thing, then after changing his mind, he did another.

Is it because Meyer is doing what is best for him and his family? No, that can't be, because that is exactly what Saban did.

Because Saban was an ******* and he left our NFL team. Gator fans dont have a problem with it because he will be back with our team.

No because we'd still be pissed at him, Meyer is coming back after he decided to call it quits, essentially he is taking a vacation.

Saban and Cameron are different, one isnt coming back to replace the other.

It would be just like a one year vacation if Saban went and coached in college for a year. What he's doing while not coaching an NFL team is irrelevant to the NFL if he isn't in the NFL.

If Meyer went and joined the PBA for a year it wouldn't matter in regards to coaching the NCAA.

Do not be so sure ... there is a lot going on and I have been told this may get even stranger............ Foley is solid in Urban's corner and Machen likes and trusts Foley. Alum's, Bull Gators and the ones with the pe$o's in Urban's corner ... not so many.

Bull Gators are the largest financial supporters of the athletic program specifically and get a lot of their perks from the athletic department but because of some limits they funnel a lot of money also through donations to the school in general....technically they are the largest donators to the booster club......the same as Golden Canes........the reported money is a portion of what they donate overall...these are peiople like Don Dizney, the Duda family, the Griffiths, David Hughes, Sonny Tillman, Stumpy Harris, big dollar guys...Bull Gator membership starts at around 15K per year and these guys give in the multi millions of dollars...............

I know for an absolute iron clad lead pipe lock that 3 of the larger Bull Gators do not like Urban and did not shed a tear when he announced his vacation......

Social engineering?!?! What the hell are you talking about?

I'm not advocating Strong's hire. I'm saying that the University of Florida won't hire a qualified black guy to be its head coach. There are 119 FBS schools. There are 4 black head coaches. This is not because there are no qualified candidates. This is plain old RACISM.

I don't see any parallel between what Meyer did here and what Saban did. Saban was leaving one team for another and lying about it (and to add salt to the wound he actually berated the reporters who brought up facts that indicated he might be lying).

Meyer wasn't leaving the team willingly. He was sacrificing a job he loved b/c of a health scare. He then changed his mind b/c he didn't want to leave and most likely b/c he probably didn't need to make that drastic of a change due to the scare. My guess and the feeling most people will probably have about this is that Meyer got scared of dying and over reacted. He then probably talked to more doctors and people with similar issues who told him that there were many small changes he could/should make that would have substantially the same impact.
