MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Of course, Michael Thomas got a call from Jonathan Martin after Thomas signed with the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday. Why wouldn't he? They talk all the time.
"He was like, 'Congrats, bro,'" said Thomas, who went from the San Francisco 49ers' practice squad to the unlikeliest of heroes in the Dolphins' 24-20 triumph over the New England Patriots in a span of five days. "Now that you ask me about it, it probably should be weird."
Martin, after all, left the Dolphins on Oct. 28 amid allegations of abuse that led to teammate Richie Incognito's suspension and triggered an NFL-backed investigation. But Thomas — who played with Martin at Stanford from 2008 to '11 — said he got only support from his close friend and his new teammates, even before he saved their season twice on Sunday.
