I referred to the barn by it's proper name. Anyhow, I'm flying down for my first game there in September, the Sunday nighter against the Green and White Scummers. I have questions! How far is it from the airport? We're staying at a hotel next to the airport. What's the best transit option from there to the stadium? Is car service the only bet? How much should I expect to pay? Lastly, Where can I watch the afternoon games? Is there a good bar near the airport or stadium you can recommend? Any other advisories about the stadium and area around it I should be aware of? Thanks my friends!
Its about half hour from MIA airport and prob 20 min or so from Ft Laud airport. Your best bet is to rent a car b/c Miami/Ft Lauderdale, in general, is a sprawled out city with little public transportation. You could rent one for the weekend or the day and it wouldnt be too bad. Theres nothing in walking distance near the stadium to watch afternoon games really. Theres plenty of good places in downtown Ft Laud, if your near there, to watch tho. Sunday night games are great b/c ppl will start tailgating early at the stadium - I dont really watch afternoon games b/c I try to get the stadium early for the night games. Hope this helps.
In the future it's better to just fly into Ft. Lauderdale airport. It's much closer unless of course your planning a SoBe visit or something. For transportation I'd get on Orbitz and find the cheapest car rental for the day. It will be much cheaper than a car service and the bus system from Miami would be a nightmare. You don't want to hang out near the stadium. It's a rotten neighborhood. Closest sports bars I'd recommend to the stadium are in Ft. Lauderdale. The closest one to the stadium is a Hooters on University and Pine Island where a local sports station WQAM always do their pre and post game shows out of. There is also a sports bar owned by an old Miami Dolphin "Bokampers" but it is farther north in Ft. Lauderdale. Right off I-595 and Pines Blvd. I don't know what to tell you about Sports Bars in Miami. Miami is a tricky area. Your hotel may have a good bar in it with games on. As for the game, if you've never been to a Jets game you should be prepared. I can tell you as a season ticket holder that this game is the one game of the year where action in the stands becoming pretty heated is a guarantee. You should go there prepared for the taunts and verbal idiocy from Jet fans. They are one of a kind and have no problem expressing it. You are from Brooklyn though so I assume you can handle yourself.
if you want a bar by the stadium, check out tootsies. it's a strip club that used to be a BJ's. it's a warehouse packed with immaculate women, they play sports and ppvs on the tvs, and the cover is like $8. probably the best place to celebrate a phins win. it's on 183rd and 7th ave.
