Does something called spywarequake pop up with the detection of the virus?

try restarting in safe mode. See if it still activates. If it does, then you can get something like avast and let it do a boot time scan.
thanks to VO for the sick ass sigs.

Try seeing if you can access the internet in safe mode with networking so that you can download and run Malwarebytes.
Linux?

If you can boot into safemode, go start, run and type MSCONFIG and hit the enter key. Then go to the "startup" tab and disable (by unchecking) anything that you don't recognize. Apply and reboot and see if you get the virus, if you don't download a good free anti virus (like AVG). You can then Google all of the stuff you disabled to find out what they do and enable them if you want.

considering I used to work for Geeksquad, they are a little overpriced but they definitely aren't scammers. Win35 is usually spyware If you can download Malware bytes on another computer and use a flash drive to install it on your computer you should be able to detect it and delete it. If there is a local mom-n-pop type repair shop you can take it in there and it will be cheaper than geeksquad usually.

Because you worked for them they aren't scammers? They rip people off all the time and you hear the horror stories of how they keep machines too long and the problem persists. You even recommended they take it somewhere else which is the same as I was doing. If people were smart they would learn how to do their own work. Me I was self taught and can do just about everything needed on my own.
And yes Malwarebytes will do the trick.... if he can install it.

I only recommended they take it else where simply because you can get it fixed for slightly cheaper than you can at bestbuy. I never had issues with my customers but then again I actually made sure that me and my co-workers actually did our jobs.
see, your problem here is that you were viewing 'tasteful' porn. in my experience, the raunchier the pr0n, the nicer the virus-planters are. none of this not letting you boot your computer stuff.
they just make sure you get pop ups of even more raunchier stuff. those are the money viruses. you don't even have to type in searches or web addresses, all the pron pops up for you automatically!

i downloaded it a few months ago as I had something that wasn't a real problem but just making everything act all funny at times. Put it to work and everything cleared up nicely.
