Sad situation. I always felt bad for him, he had apparent mental health demons he was dealing with. A lot of people were ridiculing him when he was on Hard Knocks and wanted to call his grandmother when he was traded , I kinda felt bad for the kid.

Wow, that’s really sad. He was still a young man…

Damn, this is sad. Vontae had some great seasons for Miami and also after he was traded. I was sad to see him go, and I'm sad to hear he's passed at such a young age.

I don't watch Hard Knocks (then or now) so I missed that, but remember the uproar and always found it very odd. Like, dude is going through a major life change, why wouldn't he want to reach out to family?

It's a reminder that the players, while professionals with expectations (all the moreso with the salaries), are still human just like any of us.

We live in a world where a whole bunch of keyboard warriors who wouldn't make the practice squad of a flag football team think they can tell when a grown man is "soft".

Back on topic, it's a very sad situation. RIP to him and condolences to his family.

That's true, however, in any other job if you're having a talk with your boss about your performance and you ask to call your grandmother, he's going to tell you to wait until the meeting is over. Why should football be any different?

If your boss fires you he isn't your boss anymore.

He wasn't fired, though, he was traded.

Which still means he isn't his boss anymore

Until the trade is finalized, I believe technically, he is.

He was my favorite player on the team when he was here and my distaste for Ireland went overboard with the way he handled his release for the cameras. I was so heated.

At one point he was a top 3 corner especially on the Colts. He had a good heart. Rest in peace Vontae.
