Wake right now might very well be exactly what he claims, the best 4-3 DE in the NFL. Though that's a bit of a caveat, since his competition at the spot all play 3-4 DE: JJ Watt and Justin Smith, that is. Jason Pierre-Paul would probably be Wake's closest competition at the actual 4-3 DE position, but I don't think he's as good as Wake.

 

I'll eat my hat if these selections were made entirely by 'their peers'....

He sure as hell isn't underrated by us, he's the perfect defensive football player, not just on the field, but how he trains for his craft..If he takes the supreme talent of Dion Jordan under his wing, the NFL better watch the fu&$ out for the next 5 years.

Obviously there's more to it than getting sacks, that goes without saying. Try not to automatically get defensive and see my point here. I just want/expect more of them. Call me stupid or what you want for saying that. Unfortunatley it seems most are content labeling him perfect, or#1, as apposed to raising expectations, hoping he can get even better. Homers.


Also, maybe it's time we drop the lousy nicknames, like Kraken. Wasn't Matt Roth "Maximus" ? Some of us watch too many movies. The guys name is C.Wake ( like earthquake, it's right there for you ) yet we have to call him by the name of some giant squid from a movie ? :up:

Best pass rusher in the game, completely dedicated to his craft, clean off the field, plays the run stoutly...underpaid and doesn't complain...perfect.

 

If there was an NFL Top 100 in Defensive players getting held he wouldnt be at #89. Just sayin ;-)

 

Last year Wake would consistently get pressure on the opposing QB and collapse the pocket even if he didn't get a sack. If we had ANYBODY providing even a semi-competent pass rush from the opposite side, this defense would have had tons more sacks last year. Wake set his teammates up so often, but nobody was ever there to finish the job.

1 man can only do so much.
