It'll be interesting to see how Jake Long fits into the remaining cap space going forward.

Not what I would have done, but at least we have him locked up and can move on to other things. Hopefully, an extension for Long is just around the corner. Until and unless Tannehill develops into a top 10 QB, Long is our most valuable asset.

Well Earned! The #'s seem very affordable. Both sides should be very happy. Much easier to go into the season with one of Wake / Long signed than NEITHER. Jake will be next. I suspect the Dolphins want to protect themselves a bit with regards to his recent injury history though. Walk a fine line. It's not going to be an easy extension. But they've got plenty of time to get it done. But I think they got it right in extending Wake first. As we all know, he was vastly underpaid... relatively speaking of course.

For those who argued against ripping up his current contract just because he was under contract, well, you were wrong, Ireland shows good business ethics, that contract for this up and coming year was dirty and disrespectful to a player of this caliber.
Now he can take Olivier Vernon under his wing, maybe let him move into his TV less apt, know what i'am sayin..

the $60m approx of cap space in 2013? Suspect Wake's contract knocks that down to the low to mid 40's. Plenty of room to get Jake extended and push some of that cap hit into this year since we're not using it on anyone else apparently. Knock the cap room down to the mid 20s to 30m range for 2013. That's not bad.
